I have the same issue on my EVGA 3090. I already checked the fuses and they are good. After watching this video, I'll go back and check for a short as you did. Then, I'll be contacting you folks on the repair and shipping. Thanks for the lesson.
Hi Alex! I like how you explain, please keep it up. I knew something about electronics, but with your help I actually understood how to work efficiently. Now I don't waste time to find a defect....and my earnings have increased since I apply the methods I saw with you. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and especially your experience with us. I salute the big boss and your father, as well as your wife, good luck and success in the future.
Yep ordered in the afternoon in my timezone which is 9 hours later then in CA. I was notified within 4 hours that my order was on its way to me. Enjoy your new house man! You grinded hard for it. 😊
Alex before I purchased your amtech flux I tried other flux and I couldnt get the soldier to stick with 100% sucsess but now I can ,amtech wipes uv mask and the nf brush are real good products thank you
Since wood is a very poor conductor of heat, I use a thick piece of paper towel covered with aluminum tape (so it doesn't catch on fire). I never have melted connectors, popped caps, etc. You might give it a try.
Nice job, Alex. I only didn't get termopads purpose, they are helping to provide temperature from the shield instead of an isolation. But maybe I am just stupid.

Hi Alex! Great videos, thanks a lot! Just one question: thermalpads are transferring heat and do not insulate, or do I get it wrong? Cheers from over the pond! p.s.: i´m a total amateur, but totally interested in the topic...
I guess it´s all about direct contact or not. Thought a little bit about it and that could make sense. When using hot air from a distance it could act as a shield... @@melvilib
I ordered a thermal camera from you and heating station. The items did ship with in a week. Thank you for all the videos you make it deffentitly is educational.
I always find it funny when an EVGA card gets sent in. These should all still be under warranty since the factory warranty was 3 years from EVGA. Most of us bought 10 year warranties when they were only $60.
EVGA is no longer in the graphics card business due to Nvidia's questionable business practices. I don't even think EVGA had/have enough 3090 & 3090Ti's on hand to fill warranty replacements...
Just curios, have you ever considered using a ceramic clay for heat protection?... probably too much of a mess in the long run, but for highly sensitive components on high end circuit boards.. something to consider?
You should get a flir with msx, that uses both IR and optical cameras together, makes finding things much easier. I use this on my Cat s62 pro smartphone, Flir lepton 3.5, it's great!
Basic question regarding voltage injection. There are so many other videos online, example with Macbooks, where 3.3V are injected on a 3.3V line or 5V on a 5V line. What's the theory injecting up to maximum 2V in this case in the 12V line? Also what air flow and temperature you use to remove the chip that fast without affecting the surrounding caps
Since the DRMOS is shorted, if you inject 12V, that 12V will go straight to the GPU core. Hence a low voltage is recommended such that the shorted component will heat up and at the same time, the actual component it is connected to does not get damaged.
I have one (RX7900 XTX) and I can say from experience that this is absolutely true. The occasional driver crash is pretty much the norm with AMD. I don't think they could write stable drivers to save themselves 😂😂
@@ca3340h3993 try turning off windows fast boot. In power button options in windows and also in bios. I know it sounds weird. But im going on several months of not resetting after doing that one thing. And i run my card overclocked all day
I had a similar RED LED issue with my EVGA RTX 3070. I thought it was just a simple short issue but seems like the damage is more complex and might damage the core itself. Luckily it had some about 60 days left on the warranty and had to RMA the card. I don't know if EVGA had repaired it the same way in the video or if they had replaced the whole board with a refurbished one. I had the same serial number on the backplate when it came back. I don't think EVGA will spend time repairing boards and it is easier for them to just replace it with a refurbished one and just put back on the same backplate.
when injecting voltage connect the ground of the voltage injection tools on the vrm coil then inject voltage on the fuse you go up to 12v without damaging the gpu core..
I sent my 3090 in for rma everything powers on red light. The RGB light doesn’t work but the card performs as expected by benchmarks. Sent it in for RMA but friends are saying it looks more like the card melted. EVGA is claiming water damage when there is no visible signs on the exterior. They didn’t power on the card to see if it was working on arrival even though I stated everything in the RMA. Now they want to send me my card back without doing anything besides reassemble
I have 7 x RTX 3080 ti's with issues. Do you do any trades for labor? I would like 4 cards back working and you can keep 3 cards as payment. Of course, you get to pick the cards you want. Do I ask this question here or somewhere else? Thank you.
The microscope recordings look weird lately. When it slightly vibrates, it look like the components are moving, but the board is not. Maybe there are some image stabilization settings that can be tweaked....
I think if is a 12 volrs line you can inyect 4 volts since its the 3rd part of the line voltaje. I know a guy who works with phones and he always inyect 4 volts 3 amps, doesnt matter the value of the line. Another guy always inyect the 3rd of the line voltaje since in both cases the short consumes the voltajes.
why not contact the manufacturer to create something for dissipating the heat in such tight areas of the working board like graphic cards maybe some custom shields or something

Nice repair. I learn more every time; thanks Alex.

Oh yeah, add thermal pads to transer the heat directly to the caps. Good Job 👍
I had the same thoughts lol it's the opposite of what you need.
Sticky insulator pads would be the go, not heat transfer pads
All he is worried about is the direct hot air from the nozzle.. Adding mass such as pads does protect the caps from that.🎉
Just realised how you pronounce 'Solder' and 'Soldering iron', with the 'L' . The correct way LOL....Bound to offend quite the few here 🤣😂
Can you try injecting voltage in the dark to find the short? Maybe the heat spot will show up better without reflections?
Wait what? This are heat reflections not light. He would have to be in a fridge to avoid them not dark xD
i think Alex would make a great teacher :D

I have a same issue 3090. May I know what is the AL chip part number?
Hello!
I'm confused. Thermal pads, are those used to transfer heat, or are those used to isolate it?
As far as I know, they distribute the heat. And they need some time to heat up.
May o know the price for this exact repair?
