EVGA pulling out of the graphics card market is making a lot more sense now. The 4xxx series has just been a disaster. 128bit $400 cards on the 'low end' and exploding $2000 cards on the high end.

I gave him your video about the issues and told him to file out a "Formal Complaint with his State" which he did and also Federal Government that deals with this.... they contacted him within 2 weeks issued a refund and picked up the Video card. only if all the owners of these cards would do that recall would be issued...........
Was gunna buy a 4090 2 days ago until i watched some of your videos about melting connections. Not a chance im buying one now. This is 100% NOT user error...this is a massive design flaw. The 3090's draw same if not more power draw yet dont have the issue. I'll wait to see if the design flaw is gone in the 5 series cards when they come out, if its still 1 single 12 volt connection I'll pass on those too!!...AMD may be getting a new customer.
@Don1984-lc9rh Sounds from what I've heard is that the Problem is trying to run that much current through a 12 volt adapter when the pins inside the adapter are not upto it. It's of no surprise they are melting. This is 100% not an error on the users side. I'm only surprised that a serious fire hasn't occurred, or maybe that's what will have to happen before Nvidia act...I don't know, but I for sure would not feel comfortable knowing that they are burning up at the rate they are...and it's only the 4090 series.
My 3090Ti burned its second set of mosfets after an earlier non warranty repair. Just by running a game for several hours. They where not without fault for sure!

Set your power limit on the 4090 to 80% You loose on average 3-5 fps and you will never have to worry about a melting Connection. Just dont OC the card. As a gpu support i can recommend the lian li solutions. They are nice and discrete. Hold my zotac 4090 since over a year without fail.
@@aethersx2-samsunggalaxys206 some people prefer magnifying lenses, especially older guys because they didnt have any of this fancy stuff. you can get ones that are like glasses that attach to your face so you can use both hands and have magnified vision. if you have a modern cell phone their camera are crazy good and can easily zoom in far enough for micro soldering. problem is the battery dies fast when using the camera.
Same here built my pc in March of 2023 and it's still running, no issues thankfully. Then again as a first time pc builder and owner I haven't messed around with overclocking or anything on my cpu or 4090 gpu. I have everything running stock.
The solder sucker you use might be faster than an electric sucker but you must first melt it then suck as opposed to a hot tip solder sucker that combines both. Another major consideration is RSMI repetitive stress motion injury from re cocking the manual sucker. Why put yourself at risk since your fingers and hands are everything in that business?? A big reason Starbucks got rid of the old La Marzocco coffee machines is many barista were developing RSMI, thus they changed to fully automatic machines.
Imagine spending this much and having to deal with this. Will Nvidia admit defeat and ditch this stupid connector for 50 series? it's a failed experiment.
I really wish amd and nvidia would just refine the silicon from the last couple of generations so we could get affordable cards that offer a modest performance boost but have increased reliability. I think the vast majority of gamers don't really need or want the latest greatest thing.
Arent those pads just going to oxidise and create unreliable connections? Hence why they're gold plated. And wont the extra height damage your motherboard too?
pci slots have sprung contacts, so they will be fine with 0.5mm extra thickness on the pad. as for oxidising, its generally not a problem. the gold plate oxidises as well. The contact resistance may be higher, but not enough to worry about. It's not as if it is practical to gold plate rework.
Lawsuit time. It was engineered to breakdown after the warranty but its obvious that the manufacturers screwed up and the gpus started malfunctioning even before the warranty ran out. And now the manufacturers/retailers don't want to honor the warranty.

Question wouldn't it be better to solder the copper wire and then also put solder around the wire too? In this case that is, or like someone said before, flatten some copper wire with a hammer and maybe solder on top of it as well?
Those new 12Vrfhejesge connectors are so sketchy compared to the old 8 pins. Using the included connector with my 4070ti, there was no tangible engagement of the plug, and I did push it in fairly hard. It's been running for months now, so I think it's fine, but still.
I'd really like to know the gpus w/ cracked pcb's the mount orientation and whether or not they were using a support bracket. I'd like to understand how a pcb cracks while using a support bracket.
You can press too hard on it with the support bracket/leg things or not support it enough. It's always good to measure it with a level tool, from my experience
During the Scalpocaplyse we had more cards on pallets waiting to be sold (3000 Series's) for exuberant prices now with the (4000 Series's) 1 Repair Shop has more stock then stores and there all broken or damaged somehow I think consumers need to start a class action Lawsuit to make Nvidia abandon the stupid connector and the Governing Body that said ya those connectors are perfectly fine make it a standard need to be fired replaced with people who know when they see a fire hazard ( Samsung Note 7 anyone?)
I just bought my 4080 super. Hoping nothing like this will ever happen! I am running it stock and the connector is pulled in all the way and no light on when using it. So fingers crossed it never fails on my system. Would not like to experience it. Very happy with the card.
I did the same, and managed to get a decent price on it. The cost per frame is much lower than the 4090. And due to the lower TDP, I don't think it will have any 4090 specific issues
This connector often seems a failure point. Design flaw? High current / temperature over time? Fix the obvious first, then the most common failures, and you will win. 😃
I got an eVGA RTX 3070 but it's the last Nvidia card I'll likely buy. I hardly use DLSS or RTX for the games that I play and I don't like the direction Microsoft is going with Windows 11 and beyond. On top of that Nvidia drivers aren't as good as AMD's drivers for linux and I thought about hopping to a Linux distro once W10 hits EoL for security support and updates.

I don’t understand how these edge connectors are getting damaged unless the card is being frequently and roughly being removed and reinserted. If the card is carefully inserted correctly, adequately supported and the PC not physically shocked how do they become damaged ? The power connector I can understand if excess force is used to push the power plug in but again if the socket is supported and more care taken during insertion of the plug the damage should not occur. It all looks like rough handling as the cause to me.

Which connector do you think the GPU manufacturers should use instead? Something that doesn't yet exist at all? If you think that the computer will be shaken a lot, bolt the GPU itself to the chassis and use riser cable to connect it to the motherboard. That should result in practically no stress to PCB and increase costs only by the riser cable worth.

The problem is that we don't have any reasonable interconnect that isn't tied to single vendor but PCIe. And specifying a full new connector and getting all the manufacturers to switch to it (and remember that this would mean manufacturing GPUs that are not compatible with any existing computer!) is really really hard.

@@AverageDoomer69 You can already purchase computing modules with OAM module socket which allows up to six PCIe x16 connections in paraller for a single module and 700 W TDP without any extra cables. The whole thing only needs footprint around 103 x 165 mm. Try googling for "OCP Accelerator Module (OAM) Design Specification v1.5" for more details. Of course, if you don't need that much bandwidth or power, last gen AMD APU or maybe Snapdragon (e.g. Samsung S24 level hardware) might be the solution you're looking for.

Are the gpus coming from gamers or data centers. I run 26 4090s in my datacenter. No issues with any of them.
