  • I was curious about the quality difference in the Atomos Shogun Inferno and the Atomos Ninja V, so I got my hands on both and did a quick comparison between the two. FYI- The audio difference in the comparison has nothing to do with the recorders.

    For those of you that know American Sign Language, this guy is giving a review of a two external video recorders and also telling a story with his hands about storming the beaches of Normandy and also that he loves surfing and karate.

    The Sync Module will come with a built in battery to allow you to swap between batteries without stopping recording :)

      ooh, I don't know anything about the Sync Module? Is that something new?

    Quality aside obviously there is a trade off for the smaller form factor of the Ninja V, and the UX & UI of the Ninja Inferno. Suffice it to say I believe the bottom-line is if you want the 7" screen and don't mind the larger size and you have to have SDI to support, e.g. Sony FS5M2 then the answer is Shogun Inferno. I'll take another look though to see if I can live with a 5" screen, but I did hear because of the small form factor it gets crazy hot when encoding and can be noisier than the Inferno or the Shogun?

    • @rynfilms
      @rynfilms  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't had the Ninja get crazy hot, warm for sure. There is a bit of fan noise with both, but I haven't had any issues with audio on either. The fan on the Ninja does seem to be a bit louder.

    its possible if i use the monitor just for monitoring without do external recorder?

    • @rynfilms
      @rynfilms  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely. If you just want the screen for monitoring, look into the Atomos Shinobi.

    Batteries sold seperatley? Did I just hear that. If so, wow batteries should come included with this product especially if you're spending over a grand for it.. js!

      Agreed, It would be nice if it came with 1 battery.

      Since it uses the standard NP batteries, most people who are sufficiently professional to need an external recorder will already have a collection of them.
      Apart from camcorders, most things I buy that use these batteries, such as LED light panels, DO NOT supply these batteries with the device. Besides, they are a standard item and are commonly sold with a charger at photographic/video stores.
      I must have around a couple of dozen of them, and they are mostly used for lights, camcorders, and external recorders. Very useful battery type.

    I have the Sony Fs5 II and is wondering if I'm able to get 4k DCI 60fps through the new SDI Module from the Ninja V?

    • @rynfilms
      @rynfilms  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh man, good question. That might be one for Atomos. I know you can’t output raw to the Ninja, at least as of April.

    Do you have news about installing magic on 5D iv or 7D ii

    • @rynfilms
      @rynfilms  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I assume you mean Magic Lantern? I've only tried it once. It wasn't that hard to install, I just followed the instructions from ML.

      @@rynfilms Yes, I am familiar with the forum and the installation method is easy, but I did not find a version for the 5Div camera. Do you think they will achieve this soon?

    I too have the FS5 MKII and the Atomos Inferno. HLG 3 is becoming the new favorite PP, as the ETTR rule is so hit or miss with SLOG. Just a note: I use manual primes only. The Inferno does not display any HLG 3 setting. It offers REC709 only on Inferno when HLG 3 is selected on the camera. SLOG's are greyed out. Do you have any ideas as to what or how to stop for proper exposure? 14 stops of HDR is not always necessary when filming for Indie Film projects. A lot of indoor crap with big light packages! You are the only one I have found that has the same camera/external recorder package. Any feedback or thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Thanks much!

    • @rynfilms
      @rynfilms  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Rick! I haven’t played much with HLG on the FS5 so I’m not sure. Not a whole lot going on right now, so maybe I’ll do some more testing and let you know if I come up with anything.

      @@rynfilms Thank you much. I haven't had much success with getting info on the FS5/Atomos combo. It seems as though everything tutorial wise, is all about the A7's. I'll continue with on with tests as well.

    @RYN Photography- Can you do the “REC LOOK” function on your Inferno when inputting RAW from the FS5? I can seem to turn that on unless I’m not sending it RAW.

    • @rynfilms
      @rynfilms  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not sure. Are you referring to adding something like a REC 709 LUT to your footage as you record?

    • @BenJordan
      @BenJordan 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      RYN photography yes, that’s what the REC LOOK function does, but can’t seem to enable it when using the RAW input, and Atomos support has not replied.

    • @vicious12394
      @vicious12394 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BenJordan if you are recording raw you wont be able to bake a LUT in to the footage and why would you want to if shooting raw?

    • @rynfilms

      For portability, the ninja. If your doing more studio work or on a tripod most of the time, the bigger Shogun screen is nice!
