Reminds me of what Jim Fuller once noted in regards to the Krink, how he felt that while it has its applications, the short barrel length hurts velocity and performance especially with .22 style calibres. For a short range bit of kit, it'll defo suit the needs within a 300m mark but all in all I'd never consider the Krink as an all round gun. It's probably why the Spetznaz don't field it even for CQB where they'd use the 105 style guns instead. Still, if one really likes the baby K guns, it's hopefully a calculated decision to use it for close quarters encounters and close to mid-range engagements if you have to. I wonder how a 7.62x39 version of this rifle would perform, considering how it's not as affected as 5.56 or 5.45 in shorter packages.
Probably better terminal close in, but horrible ballistics otherwise, probably the same gap as 7.62 and 5.56 have in full length carbines just happens closer. Assuming typical fmj, with specialized projectiles probably better with 7.62, could go 300blk route and use 110 vmax or something like it to have pretty good terminal performance (assuming they can group in the gun)
The main reason it doesn't get fielded on room clearing/terrorist nailing operations is a less common aftermarket for handguards and whatnot. The 105/104 just makes more sense, it's a shorter AK74M (which is by far the most common rifle). They have less 74U in stock, the gun mostly got issued to general units on the armored vehicle role. The 104 makes a lot of sense I've seen more than a handful in Syria of all places. 7.62x39 works pretty well from shorter barrels (all things considered).
@@williambell7763 Possibly though if I remember correctly from other videos, there was a test between a 16 inch AK and a 10 inch Draco AK and while there was a difference in velocity, isn't as huge a drop. Plus, InRange did their own test and apparently from an 8.5 inch 'Bubba' AK they were able to achieve an average of 2099FPS with an 123gr M43. Out of a standard 16 inch with the same round, the average was 2460, and that's quite impressive all things considered.
One of the reasons explained to me by former Spetznaz in Russia when visiting them was that the barrels shot out quickly on the AKSU, guns didn’t hold up well to high volume use, whereas the AK-74S was fine. I saw some local police with AKSUs on their backs in the cities though.

Hey, so I'm not sure if you're aware, but the Bulgarian slr104ur have a barrel twist of 1:7.87 which is the same as the old Russian Ak74 16", but the Tula krinks had a 1:6.29 barrel twist because supposedly Tula wasnt happy with the accuracy of the original krink design Izhevsk supplied them, they found as the weather got colder and air got denser the bullet got unstable. The Bulgarians continued to just build them with 1:7.87 because they just followed original Izhevsk design and were probably aware of the barrel update but either didn't want to retool or valued additional bullet tumbling from the less stable projectile. Im curious if a krink with the 1:6.29 twist barrel would perform better here 🤔

Boy that 350 part was wild, seeing you keep the very same hold and have rounds going all over the place. Granted the Krinkov is not designed to go that far so it is not surprising but still it would suck to be issued a Krink and have to shoot remotely far. Also: that 1 shot to 500 yards with irons was awesome, with the casual drink at the end being a pure gem.
you guys ever thought about doing a Sharps rifle for practical accuracy? hunting buffalo out to 500 yards and I believe its the origin of the "sharp" shooter
What's really amazing to me is that y'all's camera is good enough that it's picking up the trace coming off of the bullets as they move downrange. Personally I'm finding it easier to watch that rather than the shadow. I would like to know since I'm not a shooter myself, can y'all see the trace as you're spotting, and does it help to call hits?
Dont know if anybody noticed this, but 3:40 for example, you can see the bullet hurdeling towards the target. Air displacement as it were. Looks really cool!
That's pretty impressive for an aks74u. Its definitely great for a truck / home defense setup. I've gotten very decent accuracy from mine but wouldn't even try that distance. Good job guys!
I couldn't help but think to myself that for this run you should of re painted the targets before the shoot, you could clearly see the paint chips at 500.
Really like the new production quality for Practical Accuracy. Debrief in the garage, in-session explanations, new camera set-up. It's all good and cool, but my only complain now is that intro soundtrack is aaaaaa bit choppy and feels weird now that the intro is a bit extended. Fix that and you are golden. As for Krink Sniper, haha, I love what you did there 12:23. Good shooting, but as you said, it's a pure luck after 300 for long range shooting. Keep up the great content, you guys rock.
It would be cool to compare a 7.62x39 krink like the Zastava Zpap m92 or similar to the ak74su at distance. I would be interested to see the results since the 7.62 is less barrel length dependant.
Gents, love the videos. You really need to consider a little Grendel on that course. Go no longer than a 12.5” pipe and go suppressed. Throw a Razor Gen III 1-10 on there and shoot pretty much any 100-130gr factory load. If you shoot the steel case Grendel ammo, it’s most accurate with Enfield rifling, not 5R, due to slightly under-sized projectiles. I would just shoot 123gr ELD-M though. A Bartlein or Krieger pipe would be kinda unfair to most everything else. Lilja would be next pick. Rack-grade will be fine/hit and miss for accuracy, but given those plate sizes, won’t matter. You won’t have trouble registering the impacts and it’s still easy to maintain sight picture throughout the shot. My first time shooting my 12” Grendel at 800yds with a 1-4x24 GRSC was easy hitting a 2’x3’ steel buffalo TGT, but I was at 6300ft ASL. I have 22”, 3x18”, 16”, 12”, and 10.5” Grendels. The 12” is way more capable than I thought it would be. A 10.5” Grendel walks away from a 16.3” AK at around 100yds, then almost doubles its supersonic reach...using the same bullet weight and starting from a lower MV.
6.5 Grendel is nifty in shorter barrels. My 123gr handloads in my 12.5" + suppressor are just over 2400fps, which on paper puts me around 950 yards super sonic range, and I've proofed that dope chart out to 1k shooting at 1600ft ASL. Pretty impressive package.
Your formatting improvements are subtle enough that they are not necessarily immediately noticeable. They feel natural enough that they were presumably always there if that makes sense. One minor tweak I would appreciate is when you show something like the bench accuracy potential at the 10 minute mark if you were to put the distance somewhere in the display data. I know you have standard protocol but that doesn't mean we viewers always remember exactly what that is. Great content as always.
I bet an AKMSU in x39 would've performed a little better. Interesting review, thanks chaps. Please give us more in scope views, if possible. The ACOG is such a clear, beautiful optic.
I mean, even if a Krink round didn't have enough power left to hurt at 500yds, if it makes the other guy take cover, even reflexively, it's done at least part of its job.
Im fairly positive that the krink at 500 would have atleast 10 inches of ballistic gel penetration. Might stop when it gets in you but still probably as deadly if not more than a 22 point blank.
Love the video, I'm a little surprised you guys didn't at least give some of the match brass case ammo a try just to see the difference. my 7.62x39 eaters show a notable improvement over steelcase (from 2" to sub-MoA on the hand-fitted AR) and I would think the 5.45 would be similar just from powder charge consistency
You have to have a non vibration sound suppressor. Some vibrates an severely affect the accuracy of the weapon. Also you could try a CAR15 vs AK74U vs SIG 553 Comando. Take care 😷
Ya I don't know how the dynamics of gas flow through different designs of suppressor affect accuracy but that doesn't explain how some firearms have better accuracy when suppressed, I suspect it has to do with the the weight and balance of the can acting as a harmonic dampener
Would love to see a "U.S. Army Board Test" (1/2” Pine Board) on 300-500 with the Krink. I know that it wouldn't be a definitive proof of effectiveness, but it sure would give some insight for people (like me) who wonder how much it would or could hurt ;)
Nice video, you guys try it with a short barrel 7.62x39 next, that would be interesting. Also if it's ever possible PLEASE attempt this with a Barret M82 or M107. That would be the most epic video.
Also, no way in hell this range would let them run a .50bmg, they would wreck the targets. Most ranges, if they actually let you shoot .50, will have specific targets set out for it that are substantially thicker than these standard rifle targets
The discussion at 12 mins is basically how you factor longer shots in paintball. Hold for center of dispersion, and lob them in as fast as possible before you target lose presentation. Shoot a quasi burst. Quantity fired equals a number great enough to statically ensure several hits. At long range, it might take 4 hits to break paint on your opponent. So if you are going to shoot at all, you commit to firing about 30 good shots in the smallest time possible. Don't wait to observe reaction. Just do what statistics dictate and move on." There is no try. Do or do not...."

Oh guys I absolutely love the new video editing! Is the spotter cam footage direct from the cam or is it stabilized in post? Also the score screen is now much easier to read, though the colors aren't necessarily intuitive. A green for hit and a red for miss, I think, would be more intuitive. My experience with 60gr. Wolf 5.45x39 has always been rubbish. My Bulgarian 53gr. 7N6 ammo from 1979 and 1981 shoots three minutes out of my S&W MP15R, compared to 6 minutes on the 60gr. Wolf, and when I had one of those terrible Century Tantals, that 60gr. Wolf was at about 9 minutes. Point is, you might have gotten a tighter group with different ammo. Maybe. If you could even find it.
Ya the availability of ammo and variety of different ammo types and manufacturers of 5.45x39 isn't good, even with 7.63x39 which has gotten better recently it's still not great
Do this same, setup with a 105 and see the difference between krink gas length and the shortbarrel gas length. Would be extremely interesting to see the difference
There is a misconception about Krink type AKs that they can't be accurate because of the extremely short barrel length. Actually they can sometimes be more accurate than a full length AK, because the shorter barrel suffers less whip than a standard 16" AK barrel and its relatively thin profile. In addition to that, because of the short gas system, the gas pulse really doesn't begin to push the BCG back until after the bullet has left the barrel - this is why most of these AKs require a gas booster to cycle reliably, there just isn't enough dwell time to build pressure because by the time the burning propellant reaches the gas port, the bullet is gone and the gas pressure drops very quickly without a booster. There is a definite downside to the very short barrel for shooting 5.45 and 5.56 which lose quite a bit of velocity, while 7.62x39 doesn't lose much. I've found that my M92 is the most accurate 7.62x39 firearm I own.
it should be noted most crews would try to get rpk (45rd) mags more often than they would just tape mags together as taped mags dont sit well in the krinks holster or holding space
Do you guys have any plans to run the M1 carbine out to 500yds? I would be interested to see how it performs, seeing as it is always referred to as a 300yd gun.
This seems like a good example of "your enemies guns always seem to be more accurate than your own." A near miss to the shooter is a lot different to the target, and even if only one hit gets made, the targets will have a different take away from the shooter who missed the other 29 shots.

@@lucastonoli3256 I mean the 74U has been discontinued in production so that's another factor.
This Video is really a gem for teaching basic statistics and the matter of small samples
I wonder if the "short-rifle" variant AKs like the 104, 105, PM md. 90, and AMD-65 would fair much better.
Absolutely. 12.5” is the perfect barrel length for AKs. Krink is definitely a little too short for anything other than pure CQC
Try a tokarev pistol
@@talltale9760 I do wonder if a M43 Krink would fare, you'd have less velocity lost and a bigger bullet at a similar range but you'd probably get more kick from shooting
@@ArcturusOTE it would probably be pretty rough. 7.62x39 is already excessively parabolic out of a 12.5” barrel and I don’t think a even shorter barrel will do it any favors
@@talltale9760 7.62x39 in general is excessively parabolic if you want to call it like that. The difference between a 16" and a 12.5" is surprisingly minor.
Usually practical accuracy videos call for a fine bottle of wine or other alcohol, but this feels like white monster can in my hand and crocs on my feet
Im curious if a krink with the 1:6.29 twist barrel would perform better here 🤔
super happy to see spotter/shooter footage again
I love how you can watch the trails and the bullets track in
As Russian viewer I deeply appreciate that you show distance in meters now too. And your respect for Soviet/Russian weapons.
11:48 You can feel the cone of fire effect on the simulator I'm developing! I have been using the Practical Accuracy videos to help me calibrate these effects, It will be me most realistic fps simulator ever :)
Best of luck to you!
@@jdstark24 Thanks!!
Dude that tea pot brought me back to the Ghan for a second. One of my good memories of the place was on a dismounted patrol in a small farming community. I was getting tired and we took a halt near a farmers house. His kids brought us out chai while we rested. Just a E4 infantry grunt I felt like a king in that moment.
I can't wait to see you take out the AK 50
love the 60 rounder and acog!
That was my Boy Boris Slav super star theme! In the beginning of the video nice:)
See those rounds ripple the air is wild man
you guys ever thought about doing a Sharps rifle for practical accuracy?
hunting buffalo out to 500 yards and I believe its the origin of the "sharp" shooter
That was done with only roughly aimed volleys of fire at entire herds of buffalo. The accuracy of these rifles is often wildly overestimated.
What's really amazing to me is that y'all's camera is good enough that it's picking up the trace coming off of the bullets as they move downrange. Personally I'm finding it easier to watch that rather than the shadow.
I would like to know since I'm not a shooter myself, can y'all see the trace as you're spotting, and does it help to call hits?
yeah josh usually follows the trace into the target and sees if there is an effect on target but it's harder to follow trace on the camera than IRL
@@9HoleReviews cool!! Thanks for the info. Keep making these awesome videos! I love watching your channel.
"Who is that in the distance?"
"Just some guy with a little AK."
"What's the range?"
"500 yards"
"Oh God, HURRY RUN CLOSER!"
That's called baby ak
Dont know if anybody noticed this, but 3:40 for example, you can see the bullet hurdeling towards the target. Air displacement as it were. Looks really cool!
That Slav King intro though!!!! Never fear, Boris is here
love the additional disccusion
its really cool, you can actually see the bullets as they fly through the air
Love the new camera setup guys :)
Didn't think we'd see a repetition of the blessed shots at 500.
That's pretty impressive for an aks74u. Its definitely great for a truck / home defense setup. I've gotten very decent accuracy from mine but wouldn't even try that distance. Good job guys!
With a red dot instead of acog, that'd be a great truck gun 😁
Its amazing that you can see the trail and the drop of the round, literally trace where its going
That analysis screen at the end was hilarious to see.
I couldn't help but think to myself that for this run you should of re painted the targets before the shoot, you could clearly see the paint chips at 500.
the intro always reminds me on the dayz music haha
great vid!
the look of the these akus is just classic epic
I'm glad the gun community as a whole knows about Tarkov..probably goes both ways; I found some content creators from others, related to the game.
*happy cheeki breeki noises* nice touch adding in slav king. Gopnik award for Henry.
I can’t wait to see a review on the ak-50 whenever it’s finished 👀
Very fun video guys, great shooting too Henry!
The vapor trails in the video are so cool
Thank you for showing the distance in the metric system.
The ACOG is such a clear, beautiful optic.
well, although we get what your saying, it literally is an x39 round... 5.45x39
@@Jonbmx666 Sure... the heavier of the two ;) But yes, you're spot on. x51 may well do better though from the same barrel length.
That, or shot you in the head.
@@bignspicy984 definitely more deadly than .22

I dont know if im being stupid or something but im so amazed that we can literraly see the bullet travelling and falling from the longer ranges
that bullet arch is absolutely unreal to watch
That ak-74u looks sick af, that's exactly how I would want it 0:29
PERFECT!! 😤
Would love to see a "U.S. Army Board Test" (1/2” Pine Board) on 300-500 with the Krink. I know that it wouldn't be a definitive proof of effectiveness, but it sure would give some insight for people (like me) who wonder how much it would or could hurt ;)
It would definitely penetrate.
You added distance in meters! AWESOME!
Good Video. Thank you for showing the distances in meters.
Nice video, you guys try it with a short barrel 7.62x39 next, that would be interesting. Also if it's ever possible PLEASE attempt this with a Barret M82 or M107. That would be the most epic video.
They have already done a short 7.62x39, the Meridian Defense LDP
I got to be honest I think the old target impact and miss UI looked cleaner still will watch every video love you guys
Send it he says... jinxed every group thereafter.

Loved the video, guys!
This channel is awesome! The two hosts combine subject matter expert’s knowledge with great on camera charisma and professional production. It’s something I look forward to watching.
Something interesting to see would be to see how effective hits would be at +400m as compared to the usual tests people have at like 10 yards. Something like Paul Harrell's meat targets or even simple like comparing ballistic gel damage

Oh guys I absolutely love the new video editing! Is the spotter cam footage direct from the cam or is it stabilized in post? Also the score screen is now much easier to read, though the colors aren't necessarily intuitive. A green for hit and a red for miss, I think, would be more intuitive. Anyhow, loving the new production quality and happy to see some range videos!
Looks like something straight out of Tarkov.
Well they did named it "Gamer AKs74u Tarkov "Sniper" Krink" at 0:59 so it might have been imported from the Norvinsk region Special Economic Zone lol
It's needs that hold Soviet night vision scope :D

Thumbs up for the metric addition :)
Oh man sniper Krink sounds like the best of everything 😍
Insane, this is what i wanted out of a SAM7K, 762 instead of 545 but exactly the same.
"They shoot curved bullets.. CURVED BULLETS"
400 yard targets don't exist in soviet Russia. That's why krink can hit at 500 no problem but not at 400
My experience with 60gr.
Ya the availability of ammo and variety of different ammo types and manufacturers of 5.45x39 isn't good, even with 7.63x39 which has gotten better recently it's still not great
I have the same experience.60gr wolf is almost 10moa at best. 59gr golden tiger is my go to round at about 3 moa.
I like that you can see the vapor trails at 400 yards.
I love this channel, keep it up guys great content
Really enjoyed this one!
Do this same, setup with a 105 and see the difference between krink gas length and the shortbarrel gas length.
Would be extremely interesting to see the difference
Awesome as usual!!
Thank you that shadow tip is gold
Nice goose cluck at 7:09 lol!!!
Thanks for the meter conversion
Do you guys have any plans to run the M1 carbine out to 500yds? I would be interested to see how it performs, seeing as it is always referred to as a 300yd gun.
This seems like a good example of "your enemies guns always seem to be more accurate than your own."
A near miss to the shooter is a lot different to the target, and even if only one hit gets made, the targets will have a different take away from the shooter who missed the other 29 shots.
