I’m fortunate enough to have a 24 MYP and an older Subaru Crosstrek. Totally opposite ends of the spectrum and the speed is wild on the MYP, but sometimes I do tend to get ‘used to it’. When I start feeling that way, I hop in the Subaru and it reminds me of just how powerful the MYP is because the Subaru is that slow in comparison. Make sure to get it in a slower vehicle from time to time if you can so you don’t get too used to the acceleration boost! Great video, thanks for sharing it!
Lucky you guys had points to use. I shelled out $2k for my previous 2022 Model 3 long range. I drove it for an about a good 10 months stock before upgrading. I felt the difference. If I remember correctly, It went from 4.2 to 3.7 seconds to 60. I never drove in chill….I prefer to have the ability to dart out of a situation by having the full power on tap at any given time. Saved me a couple of times.
They do it because if they sell them that way it changes EPA ratings. Any sticky drive mode (dosent reset when car goes off) must be included in the epa listing. In the case of acceleration boost, it would be the highest usage setting and therby be the epa measurement, which would eat into the rating. This way, since it is only an aftermarket add on, the setting does not apply to the ratings. Having driven plenty of fast cars I will say non boosted MY-LR-AWD smokes just about everything. It really is fun to drive Teslas, so glad they showed the world that ev doesn't have to mean slow.
Help me understand in case I misunderstood. The car has strong motors capable of doing this but in order to actually use the motors that the car has you have to give them extra money so they can flip a switch with software?
Yes kinda. Which seems bad, but the car comes standard faster than most on the road already, and making a gas car this much faster requires more cost and labor!
Yes but you gotta really think about it. A $2,000 payment gives you over 100hp gain. Now compare that to an ICE car. You gotta pay way more because you have to pay for the parts and the time required to gain that much HP. People don’t really think about it
@CHiTO316 in an ice car, you'd be paying for equipment physical added to your car. In Tesla you're paying for permission to use physical equipment that your car already has. It's like all their doing is opening the door they locked for $2,000
@@johnsartain4160 You can wrap your head around it or keep buying over boosted, smogged, heavy maintenance ice cars. Your V8 has the potential of more power but they purposely withold old hardware....in a Tesla, your simply push a button. Think of it as five years of oil changes.
I had acceleration boost on the Y i just sold, the boost carries over to the new owner.. Def worth the money especially when you have a car full of people or luggage.. What is the material on your dash? is that after market?
On my model 3 long range i don't have the acc boost but I do have chill and sport. Was a bit confused by your video where you mentioned acc boost adds sport mode
Hmm interesting! Maybe different model years are different? The options for ours was “chill” and “standard”. But can always check it in the software section!
Thank you for the video but especially for the last few seconds. I was looking for this in the upgrades because I've never seen it before. Long Range... ah... I only have RWD. It's ok, I probably wouldn't have wanted to pay for it anyway.
I’ve heard the performance version (same battery) has seen a slightly higher failure rate. Unsure if it’s tied to the higher draw or the sample size made the comment inconsequential. Thanks for the input. I don’t have the social media presence for the credits, so I’m debating the pro’s and cons of spending 2k on it. Enjoy your videos.
Just been curious. I know you got a channel here and post content, but what is it you guys do to afford these cool toys and a home in Vegas 🙂? Healthcare?? Engineering? Hmm..
I’m so jealous!!! I have the refreshed M3 AWD LR and the boost is still not available 😢😢 I hope Tesla makes if available eventually because I will purchase it now
This is such a weird feature to me, the car has the hardware to do it, but it gets locked behind a paywall, what is this, a video game? Gotta buy the DLC? lol Speaking of, how is chill mode, I'm a gig driver and I was thinking it might be a useful feature.
Because they had to optimize the car software of a an old car which toke time and money so yeah and besides most people don’t need it or the extra speed make people sick
I like your video but I don't like that Tesla is selling a software update to make your car faster, it's not like they added something physical to the car.
I added acceleration boost to my M3 and did the 0-60 every single time someone got in my car that hadn’t experienced it. I am 100% convinced it’s the reason my battery had terrible degradation (over 15%). I sold it and purchased a 2024 MY. I have 5K miles on it so far and have yet to ‘punch it’ and charge to 80% 99% of the time and 5K miles in, it’s 247 miles at 80% which is 308 at 100%. So while acceleration boost is a lot of fun, the battery will take a major hit. Also the M3LR acceleration boost does 0-60 in 3.7 seconds where the MYLR only goes 0-60 in 4.2 so it’s definitely not worth it for me to buy it now.
No. Current peer reviewed science demonstrates real world use (and specifically calls out the benefit of hard acceleration cycling) promotes longevity rather than what has been the default measurement of static linear charge discharge “cycles”. In other words, use it like you enjoy it-the “baby it” approach misguided pseudoscience.
It’s not bad at all given the weight of these beasts! Defo worth it for the belly crunching, g force inducing, “freakin’ dizzy” effect! Loving the vids 👍🏼

You will get use to it. I have a MYP and it no longer feels fast like when I first tried it. Time to move on to Model S? Haha

I did just that. 4.5 years with AB on M3 which I loved. Recently upgraded to a Performance.

Sorry I do not actually

We don’t! That’s only a recommendation for model 3 standard ranges with LFP batteries

A question nobody has been able to answer… Does the use of acceleration boost degrade your battery MORE over time and cycles?
No not at all. I had it for 3 years on 2022 model y. My friend car without boost had same efficiency
Don't believe so!

I understand this point too
As a tesla owner I confirm I am not a hater but this software sucks because if the car has the ability to do it just make it come standard with that.
I put it on my 2022 MY LR, not to go 0 - 60 mph, but to scoot 50 - 70 mph when necessary. It makes me safer!
This is also fun
I added acceleration boost to my M3 and did the 0-60 every single time someone got in my car that hadn’t experienced it. Just buy the performance you wont have to worry about an acceleration boost
Also an option
Isn’t the performance one a stiffer ride?
Not worth it for most imo. Plenty great acceleration stock. Already have to tell passenger you are speeding upon so they don’t get whiplash.
This is true
Not worth it on Model Y, but definitely worth it on legacy Model 3 !!
The 3 in 3.7 is awesome
Love it on y
@justgetatesla did this and proved that although the gain was minimal it was the kick in the guts experience that made it worth it….
