Been looking into used Teslas (From Tesla) more and more. Particularly intriguing: There are a couple of Model X Long Range Plus out there with 371 miles published range. And most of them seem to come with Full Self Driving for not much extra money because Tesla didn't give the owners anything for it on trade in.

I have a 2021 Long Range Model 3 with Accel Boost. Difference between Performance and Long Range + AB is about .20 in 0-60mph and quarter mile. The 3.1* sec Performance is rated as 1' roll out. If you look at your draggy for your faster times you were hitting 3.3 sec with accel boost as your 1' rollout. The Performance models are sold with 1' roll outs compared to standard and long range models. The Performance quarter mile hits around 11.55 on average and LR + AB is around 11.75. The Performance sees that .20 faster time from 0-30 mph, but from 30+ mph they are neck and neck, in fact most times the LR with Accel Boost will finish the quarter mile at faster speeds in many cases.

Also, if you get the S3XY buttons then you can have one of them switch sport mode and stick it on the back of the steering wheel so it is right at your finger tip. Which is crazy because for 9,000 points you would get a wall connector that is only $475. After a year with my Tesla Y Long Range, I was accustomed to the acceleration and felt it had more in it. I purchased acceleration boost and it really makes a difference. I haven’t made any measurements though. Is it “worth” $2k? The car was around $60k after taxes and delivery, so yeah, $2k is worth it in the same way $2k is worth blue paint and white seats.

Another way to look at it too is if you want to make any gas car faster, it will cost more than $2k unless you want to just completely void the warranty. So the fact that it's backed by Tesla as well makes it worth it.

Strong disagree. Buy LR and you get a smoother ride, a higher ride height, 4 matching tires that can be rotated, less expensive tires, less expensive brakes, and a longer battery range (which absolutely matters). All of those things are perks over the Performance. The Performance is fun but you aren't flooring it all the time. The acceleration is great but after the fun wears off some, you just want that added range.

"The car can already do it. Why should I pay?"
I mean while it IS just a software unlock, I justified it as an extension to the powertrain warranty. You're running the motors and battery at a higher spec, meaning they can't guarantee the same results as the lower spec.
But for 0-30, it's practically a must for a Model Y. Without it, the 0-30 range is a little..."waiting to wind up" or something.

  • @davidsongood2627
    @davidsongood2627 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Remember that most car magazines and manufacturers report the 1 foot rollout time for 0-60 runs. Tesla also quotes this (faster) time for the performance model 3 and plaid model x and s. The fastest 1 foot rollout time you got was 3.39 seconds! A performance model 3 does 0-60 in 3.1 seconds with 1 foot (this is the claimed time. It is more like 3.2 in most cases). This means you are really, really close to the performance after this boost. It’s tricky how tesla uses different performance measurements for different cars to make the performance models seem faster…

    * You must have the SAME STATE of CHARGE when comparing speed
    * Have the car PRECONDITIONED before you will do the test
    * Have every test for 5 minutes (or more) per run, so the motor can breath
    * Use the same track and time as possible
    * The pressure in every acceleration must be at the same level & intensity
iF you can't do all those 5 very important pointers because of the weather or any circumstances, do NOT do it and schedule it NEXT TIME.
(By the way, I have an S & X, and even though I don't have a TH-cam channel, I did all the things I said and it shows that getting the Boost makes your car faster than the base speed from the factory)
Have a great day to y'all!

Just got a long range Y.
I contemplated getting it but it’s not too often I just floor it from a stand still.
I would be more interested in 30-60 or 60-80 time.
If it made a difference on passing speeds, that would be great.

WOW, the Model 3 Longrange is a lot faster than the model Y Longrange. The Y is only rated at 4.8 seconds 0-60 and the Performance Boost will get you to 4.2 seconds 0-60 which is the normal the Model 3 has from the Factory. I am thinking I might as well get a Model Y Performance just to keep up with the Model 3 Longrange. Nice review as always!

I hope your wife forgives you! Haha, but I couldn't last more than a couple of weeks before I caved and bought the acceleration boost. Though I would love to go Model 3 Performance, I felt like the LR with the boost was the best bang for your buck while still keeping extra range and overall driving comfort. I couldn't bring myself to refund the purchase within the return window.

Long range, plus boost, plus unplugged/monster/tsportline wheels and new tires. Ouch. But good ouch. Other choice is Performance, then the suspension is stiff and you need new wheels if you want to maximize range. You can do the comfort suspension, but there's that money again. Pay to play, just like everything else. But fun, though.

It stays with the car. As far as adding value that would be up to the person purchasing the car. It may not be an added value for that person. And if it affects the range much it could be a deterrent to some people but I'm sure there's somebody out there that would be added value

I would imagine the take rate at $1000 would be 90%. . That would give every used Tesla LR 3/Y a huge advantage over the competition as a whole and increase the value of all the used LR/3&Y's.
