    Thanks for the video. Just replaced the lower rearward arms on our 2012. Creaking gone. Couple tips... 1) I used the Harbor Freight ball joint tool and had to grind the opening/slot on the ball joint separator so it was wide enough to fit around the upper part of the ball joint. Also took a little of the tips so that the tool could go all the way in. 2) The heat shield can be moved. It's held in by two 10s (easy to see) and a 13 (hidden - remove from top of shield).

      Thank you! I must of missed the last bolt to remove the heat shield! I was only able to find the 2 bolts.

    0:21 There is usually a hubcap tool in the emergency kit.
    1:55 Never use an impact gun on a common ball joint separator as the jaws are the weakest. Get it secure with a wrench and then whack it with a hammer on the nut end of the ball joint to pop it out.

      Thanks I will look in the emergency kit if this car has it! Sometimes some of the items are missing from the old owner. I hear that a lot do not use an impact on a ball joint separator, I cannot stand to use or see other people use the actual ratchet and socket. I usually have 2-3 ball joint separators on hand incase one breaks.

    The ball joint doesn’t need the loaded suspension for torquing.. only the bushing require the pre load and how high did you lift the knuckle with the floor jack to simulate the loaded ride height? I’m currently doing all four uppers and lowers all around on my B8 A4 and having trouble getting reward lower control ball joint outta the insert. I don’t want to hammer on it since it’s aluminum in fear of damaging or cracking the spindle, any suggestions will heating with that separator you used work? Good video 👍🏻

      I usually go up until it lifts a hairline from my actual lift which I didn’t showed my bad. Are you using a ball joint separator and an impact? Heat will definitely do the job. Put the ball joint separator in with a little bit of tension and heat up the nut from the bottom of the control arm till it’s glowing red. Next slowly apply torque with the impact.

    Are those called the rearward ones? Cause I need to replace them, I hearing that same irritating noise

    • @Fwerks.1592
      @Fwerks.1592  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is correct! It’s called the “ Lower Rearward” control arm. The big bushings by the subframe is what fails!

    Good video! Did you get an alignment afterwards?

      @Fwerks.1592  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! I’m trying lol. No I did not, it’s optional. I only get an alignment if I remove any control arm that has a camber bolt or when tie rods are being replaced!
