In today's video I will be showing you guys how I put the Audi Q5's into service position WITHOUT any special tools! We also won't be disconnecting the coolant lines, the transmission cooling lines, the A/C lines, OR the intercooler tubing.
You don't really need to remove any of these lines because this method gives you plenty of access to the front of the engine for repairs like the Alternator belt, timing covers, timing chain service, etc.
Number 1 thing you MUST have for this to work is 2 long 1/4-inch extensions!
Here are some other helpful tools as well:

Awesome! Thanks. I miss having the books to thumb through. I think the A4 manual was as good as I could get. I never found a Q manual.
I have a leak on a check valve that's under the front driver side by the dip stick I can only see it with a video how can I get to it it's tight!!!!! someone didn't put a clip on neither side, and it started dripping.I need help!!!!!
Thanks! That was short & sweet and no nonsense BS chatter. As a technician we don't like to waste time watching videos that are misleading. This video was straight to the point and even speed forward . Thanks Again!
I've been looking for a detailed explanation on how to do this! Nailed it man! great video! Thanks!!!
Glad you found it. Thanks for watching!
Nice vid. In the future you may want to include the bolt sizes, its helpful. Bumper bolts are 16mm, the others are T25.
Not a bad idea, thanks!🤙🏼
Great detailed explanation,well done,love it
Appreciate that, thank you!
Great video. Thanks for posting it. I need to replace the leaking water outlet flange for the lower hose on a ‘10 Q5 3.2 V6. Looks tight in there. I suspect I need to do what you did here for access.
Thanks! Yes, doing this will give you the right amount of space to replace that. I replaced that on my A6 3.2. Pretty straight forward job
You have my respect bro
Very helpful. Thank you. Am trying to figure out how to service my 2018 SQ5 belts, water pump and thermostat but there just isn't any clearance because the 3.0L is so tight in the engine bay.
Yes, has to go in service position for those repairs for sure
Absolutely love my electric ratchet. Had a HarborFreight Earthquake XT. It took a 💩 on me & was discontinue the prior year, but I refuse 2 chuck it 😂.
Awesome informations thanks 🙏
Great vid. Any chance of uploading a DIY for Q5 3.2 wiper reservoir replacement ? Thanks in advance
Wiper reservoir? Like the fluid tank for the windshield?
Thanks a lot from germany
Hallo! Thanks for commenting!✌🏽
Nice video, I have '13 A4 B8 platform that I want to do timing components upgrade, I think many of the things here will support my car as well, I like the 1/4" drive extensions gonna pick up a few of those tonight and I'm gonna do a water pump while I have the car in my garage, I have it on quick jacks which allows me to be sitting on the floor (no laying or awkward angles, I can actually get in there once I move everything forward so I will have a lot of room underneath to remove that lower timing chain case, that is the hardest part of the timing chain job is that lower case, it's a a lot easier to reinstall the cover without bumping the silicone bead when you have room. I don't want to remove the entire front clip but I'll remove the intercooler hoses, the radiator hoses and the wiring, that should be enough to get almost 8" of clearance.
Glad it was helpful, sounds like you call a good plan🤟🏼
My recommendation is to get a couple of M10x1.5mm 120mm long bolts and thread them into the crash bar support bolt hole instead of a 1/4" extension. I'd be afraid of leaning on it and having the whole core assembly fall off. I used these bolts when replacing the timing chain tensioner on my B8.
Not a bad idea. However, since some things are still connected here and used the long extensions, it's never fallen or slid off at all. But bolts are a good suggestion🤟🏼
@@homer4163 trust me I tried it.. there still isn’t enough room in service position, so I just went ahead and removed the entire front clip, not a big deal doesn’t take much more time, just put the condenser off to the side very carefully so no stress on the lines.. and drain radiator, pull the radiator hose I took out the headlights to be safe and hood cable and electrical connector made the job easy to get the lower case off and do everything.. the front carrier isn’t that heavy and once you pull the two T30 screws off the frame there is enough static force holding it in place you can lift it off the car and set it aside
Merci beaucoup ! Thanks !
Thx for this video. About to start. Just wondered, is there any place in your video you show where the horns are placed? Thx :)
Not sure, but it should be right behind the grill after you remove the bumper
I agree w you 100% about the power tool I have the same exact one and it's so nice to break everything loose then bzzzbbzzzbbbzzz in seconds!!
My wife got me the extended Fuel version for my birthday and I love it!
Awesome and very informative video. I just aquired an Audi Q5 2012 but the entire wiring connecting the passenger side head light was cut, driver side works great would I have to place that entiring wiring looks like the wire you unhook at the 8:02 mark of the video or is that the engine harnish you undid??? To get the light to work again....Thanks again the video gives me hope of avoiding the dealer ship$$$$
I don't think that's the engine wire harness. Hopefully I'm not wrong, but I do think they are separate🤞🏻
@@Mechani_Cole Thank you for the reply. I just need to figure out how to get power to the passenge side head light then since that wiring was cut for some strange reason.
Can you cut a section and rewire that with proper connectors?
@@Mechani_Cole That's what I was think I have to do. I was going to trace the driver side left headlight wiring to see where the connectors go....
Hi Cole, great video, very helpful! Got a question if you can shed some light on please. I'm working on sunroof liner of 2015 Audi Q5, one end got separated due to heat buildup within the car. I have opened the top back end upholstery and now got stuck on two clips, one on each end, which doesn't come out with medium pressure. Center one came out easily. Couldn't find how can I get these two out before I can unscrew the two screws holding the liner holder. I've picture wish I could share to exactly point to the buggers.
Wish I could help there, but honestly haven't been in that part of the Q5 to know. Most clips usually pop directly out, our slide one way first.
@@Mechani_Cole Thanks Cole, couldn't find anything on Google even close on this. Going to be a pain in the b**t 🤣 or I might end up breaking these clips lol
Liner motor on my '09 (purchased certified in '11 with only 2100 miles 🤔)... anyways, that roof liner motor died almost immediately. Even the aluminum guide spindle band thingy twisted up??? I rolled it, pinned it, never looked back. Tinted the pan.sunroof, added a trailer hitch to soothe my spirit, and I'm good to go. The dealer wanted an insane amount for the liner & motor replacement (conveniently not "certified" warranty covered). That was a no-go. I still love my Q all these years later. Same pin-up and tint.
Hey there!
Thanks for sharing!
My 2015 q5 hybrid cuts off as soon as it cranks up. I was told it was likely the alternator. Would you you agree? Would it be really tedious to do myself?
Turns off completely? Because I'm pretty sure the hybrids kill the motor unless getting throttle?
Not sure on that one🤔
Thank you!
Hey Cole. Great info. appreciate you. I've got a 2014 Audi SQ5 3.0 turbo prestige package. 77000 miles. I'd appreciate some info regarding the process to appropriately R&R the A/C compressor, receiver dryer, and expansion valve. I had the Audi mechanics diagnosis that the problem is the compressor. The R&R is Audi's recommendations. I understand the need to evacuate the refrigerant. I'd like to fully understand the importance of cleaning out the refridgerant lines to prevent issues r/t humidity and shreds of metal clogging and breaking the new ac compressor. The help would be appreciated as I dont have the $2200 Audi is asking to fix the AC. Thanks man
I cannot find any info on-line to help me do this project. I understand this video has nothing to do with want I need to accomplish, however you seem to be knowledgeable so I thought i'd ask
To be 100% honest, anything AC related I take it to a shop. I don't have a freon machine or anything needed for those kinds of jobs personally
I appreciate your honesty. Thanks man
great video
Thanks for watching!
Thanks
Merci
I have the quarter inch socket extender and it does not fit at all, but the exact same brand anything else I could use
You can also use longer bolts of the same size
Does this leave enough room the get a gun on the bottom pulley?
If you have a stubby gun and undo the intercooler tubing all the way. Then you can
My radiator startsd leaking and i have some issues in my 2009 aufi q5. How much to have you look at it?
I'm in the Vegas area, just to looked would be about $50🤙🏼
@@Mechani_Cole do you know anyone in the dfw area?
@breal6910 I do not no. I would just check for independent shops with good reviews
im looking to buy a 2015 audi with diesel engine. are these reliable?
Yes very. But like with any vehicle, maintenance must be done.
@@Mechani_Cole thank you cole. This one has 91k miles so I’ll have to do timing belt soon. May have to pass on the car 🥺
@@cuh720 Doesn't it come with timing chain?
@@cuh720 Did you buy it? I am looking at a 2016 with 88k. Thinking I will have to change the timing belt? Maybe I should haggle with the dealer about it.
@@davfinport no, it sold before I pulled trigger.
What if instead of 1/4 extensions you put three threaded rods per side? I feel like that would be best case scenario
Would 100% be better yes. Another solution is to use the long bumper bolts, they are much longer and you can slide it out about 5-6 inches safely on those bolts.
You say "no special tools," but I'm listening to one talk!
Ha! Just playing, bro. I had to though.
I am the most special tool and only one needed😁
😊
Obviously for timing and water pump only
And much more! Timing covers, coolant leaks, accessory belt, crank seal, cooling fan replacement etc 😎
If I would have known that it would have sped things up DRASTICALLY.
Now ya know🫡
you don't have anybody with your video runs like that Thanks but no Thanks
What was that Biden? Couldn't understand....
