For a little perspective on leveling speed, for those who are worried about the time investment... I made a new character a few weeks ago, leveled RDM to lv 25, was able to solo all the subjob items with my Trusts (which you can start acquiring at level 5), and it all took me 2 nights. Then, I bought an exp boost ring with conquest points from the gate guard, and took my BLM from level 1-30 in about 2 hours by running from Windurst to Jeuno, just fighting mobs along the way and leveling as I went. Once I hit 12, I went to Tahrongi.... reached 18 by the time I got to Meriphitaud.... then hit 25 by the time I got to Sauromugue Champaign.... then level 30 by the time I hit Jeuno. I just released/re-summoned my Trusts every 2-3 levels so they kept up with me. All the while, you are acquiring Sparks from Records of Eminence, which allows you to buy gear really cheap as you go. So if you have a plan, you can buy a few sets of gear ahead of time and upgrade as you level, then sell the old stuff when you don't need it anymore. It's probably the easiest/quickest leveling system of any MMO I've played, from lv 1-50. After that it slows down a bit because you still have to do the limit break quests, but even those are easy with Trusts.
I'm so glad I got to experience this game when I had absolutely no responsibilities and could play 12 to 20 hrs each day lol. I loved this game I hope to have a similar experience sometime!

Great guide. I’ve just recently activated the game again. I hadn’t played since 2012 when aby was the current content. I got a bunch of sparks just from checking out the ROE. Now I’m trying to go through all my old inventory and decide what I need to keep and what needs to go.
I kind of want to get back into this and this helps, I stopped playing back in 2013 because it was consuming my life. A lot of what I loved seem to have gone away but the quality of life seems to make up for it. Still on the fence but this helps
I played from around 2004~2009ish. And I played a month or two of the abyssea expansions in 2011. The game seems to have improved significantly in terms of quality of life for everything. I remember being extremely well geared for thf and nin at 75, but having enormous amounts of gear swapping macros to optimize everything. Windower scripts to swap out entire gear sets, I had almost every key on my keyboard bound to some useful function in the game. Its crazy how complicated things were, yet how fondly i remember them.
Retail ffxi will always hold an extremely special place in my heart.. i dedicated many years to it, but the new Horizon server is all that I'm going to play now. It's just so much more simple, vanilla.
"Reach out to SE to find PlayOnline ID" Can definitely confirm, they're really diligent about it too and will help you find even if you only remember very few things
Can confirm. Last time i played FFXI was back in 2009. That was when i quit playing. However, i came back last year. I forgot everything. The only thing i remembered was my character name. When i called, they asked me some basic questions to prove who i say i am..... like street address used and stuff like that. The one question i couldn't remember was the email address. Between 2002 till 2009 (and especially present day) I had so many email addresses, that i dont know which one was used for the account. And most of the emails i forgot. So he allowed me to just spout email addresses that i could remember until i got the right one. However, i never did lol. I came close though and the guy on the other end knew i was legit based on the fact i gave email addresses that were similiar to the one used to the account and other previous answers i gave to other questions. So he ended up just hinting out what the email was without actually saying it lol. He was awesome.
I had the opposite experience. I provided them email address (same email its always been) and Square Enix account info and they wouldn't help me out at all. It was an ordeal, but about on par with every experience I had with PlayOnline customer service.
@@justin2166 Did you ever get your account back though? if not, i would have called again and seen if i could get another customer service rep to help you. I should have mentioned i never really "called" them. I used their online chat service.
@@EricWZ No sadly. I did the live chat option. My phone number has changed once back in 2004, so it wasn't the same. They suggested they could help me if I provided the CD-Keys on the box I purchased 16 years ago. When I said I didn't still have those they hung up on me. Maybe I should post the screenshots, but it was really awful.
I'm glad I researched a few things before going into the game this year. I didn't use your guide specifically, but I did use the FFXIclopedia. I learned about the amazingly OP key item that reduces teleport costs (even for tabs) by 80% and gives an extra trust summon slot. It also made soloing the level 58 undead NM boss on the way to get the Canal access managable at level 52 RDM. (You need canal access if you don't have people to help you get past the three mage gate after all.) One of the people I started playing along with at times wanted to play the game, and I was like, "Why not," since I literally had nothing more to do in FFXIV until 4.56. I have a feeling they won't be able to survive though even with all the help / guidance I gave them. One thing I still am a bit peeved at is the incredibly low drop rate for Carbuncle's Ruby. I was farming for days in Valkurm Dunes on Thread Leeches because it's known to drop on them, but it hadn't dropped, and I managed to level RDM from 30 to 50 on Conflict RoE alone because of it. I then got THF to 15 and then NIN to 30 before starting to farm it on NIN, which I then got to 35 before I decided to do other quests to come back to SMN farming later. I redeemed my Destrier Beret as well, so that will probably help in the SMN Solo trials.
I was at the right age, at the right point in my life, at the right time when I started playing XI. I have so much nostalgic fondness for this game. So many friendships, memories and experiences that I really miss whenever I think about XI. I left the game a long time ago, before ToAU and in some ways, I am glad I stopped playing before I had a chance to dislike the changes. I've been playing XIV off and on since the release of 2.0 and its the first MMO in years that I've felt like fills some of the void that XI left when I quit.
Omg I put soooooooo many hours into this games back in the day! I was just sitting here looking at videos trying to decide to try 14 or come back to 11 with my roommate and I think this video just convinced me to come back to 11 since they have added soooo much stuff and time saving stuff. The biggie is not needing a human party anymore so me and my friend can just get on and have fun getting stuff done by yourself instead of looking for a party to grind out exp or do a mission. Thanks for taking the time to make this video maybe we will see you in game one day :)
Wow this is required watching! Thanks for putting this together! After spending 8 years afk, its the same beautiful Vanadiel but a brand new game. You should take sections of this and expand a bit in their own videos
I am glad TH-cam suggested this video. I returned on a whim and see a bunch of stuff I am doing is a waste of time because Square adapted the game around a lack of crafters. I'm on Sylph and can't tell what the economy is or what's the value of gil.
Remora server, was it? 75 SMN raiding in SKY and the literal journey getting all the avatars and getting there was still to this day the greatest gaming experience of my life. I'm coming back to pickup where i left off!
I was a beta tester on the PS2 when it was brand new... I had no idea this was still out and running! I haven't played this in 13-14 years or more... wow.
I just recently came back to this game on my old stomping grounds of Asura, after a few year hiatus and its still just as amazing as it used to be. Just need to figure out which job to focus on (pet jobs ftw!) and gear it and get some job points on it so I can go into more high end content again. Also need a good returner ls still. Still even solo for the moment its a hoot
information overload!! but i'm only lv30ish atm so yeah.. i'm so happy to be back after some 15 years!! i will definitely reference back here for gearing up at 99
Hey Hunter! Still playing PUP? I occasionally flirt with the idea of transferring to Odin just to join the Huntin 4 Games community and play with ya'all. You're my favorite (and really only relevant?) FFXI content creator. You're clean, charismatic, and a joy to watch and reminisce with. Anyway big peace, I know all this boo-boo na-na but I watched it all anyway.
I haven't played since about 2006. Really looking forward to restarting. Unfortunately I must have messed up something when I tried to set up playonline.
So contemplating a return to this because I have felt all other MMO’s to date have not held up. I would be starting from 0 though, no longer have access to old character. One thing I remember though was being able to generate enough “gil” to be able to get gear and get around. Is it still ridiculously hard? That’s what it holding me back. Back in the day we had a bunch of friends but, this will probably be a very solo endeavor.
Hey, played at launch, for about 6 years. Im interested in coming back for a bit just as a change of pace from my current games. Where could I go to find some active communities to get in touch with? Best thing about this game was always the people sharing your hardships lol
and also as long as its much imporoved as you guys say im so down...like teleporting back and forth between crystals and the increase in movement speed is a huge improvement as well as faster leveling. So it makes it less daunting for new players im even more down. I mean with the fact that I can't play as much as I used to this is great news...I can progress faster. So we will see how easy it is to get back into. Im excited. Im def joining the highest population server.
Playing ffxiv atm planning on returning once I get the content done loved ffxi but wasting time just for a chance to get a group killed the fun. Trusts will be a godsend in this regard though will be focusing on grouping with others in the meantime.
as a veteran player, I watched this video for no other reason than to support the channel, then I actually learned something. the focus target thing, had no idea lol.
I bought the ps2 version when it first came out played on and off for all these years but now that I have 5 kids I don’t have time to play anymore, I still play ffxiv here and there but now I pass my gaming onto the next generation :)
Added note on the world pass section of this. You actually do not need world passes anymore. You choose your world when you make your character. The only benefit of a gold world pass is the fun little items you can get over time, which is still nice.
I just started playing again, since 2004, on Asura. I have two newbie questions, what are these SIlver Vouchers? And second, Any suggestions on a good LS for new players?
silver vouchers are used for this event www.bg-wiki.com/bg/Category:A.M.A.N._Trove redditls is a good social ls with people also doing random lower end, end game content regularly on asura and often has shells on the concierges.
The answer is FFXI, I've quit 2 or 3 times and it was always to stay for a long time. I've quit FFXIV 2 times and everytime I came back it was for less time and now I don't think I'll ever go back to it (last time I paid the sub and played for 2 hours and quit...)
So this may sound like blasphemy but I think 11 needs to be big time overhauled and just come free with a 14 subscription. I've been playing Horizon11, I've been having fun but couldn't ever justify a sub in 2023 ( soon 24 )
You can max out a job to lv 99 in a couple weeks now, from scratch (that is, from a brand new character). Getting started is a lot easier now than it used to be. Gearing up adequately is easy (from RoE), and once you get some Trusts you have no need to wait for parties. It's lost some of the terror/charm it had initially, but it's a much more adult-friendly game for people who have jobs, homes, families, etc. Since most of us who played this game in our early 20's as bachelors are now late 30's to early 40's with responsibilities outside FFXI :)
After watching this video it made me want to play again. Great video and hope to see you online Hayden. Are there aby active linkshells still out there? I would love to join them.
you forgot /lockstyle on ...for such a gear swapping centric game where your character blinks everytimne you gear swap this is pretty vital. I dont believe they didnt add this until like 2015 . before that you had to use a third party tool or watch your char blink every few seconds! to be fair things were slower at 75 cap so it wasnt quite as bad but still annoying!
I left live servers and start playing on a privet one, not to save money but i wanted the pre lvl 75. If SE made a classic remastered pre 75 server i would jump on in a heart beat.
Great video and perfect timing! Just came back from last playing in 2007/8... definitely been enjoying the game like old times a lot of new stuff is a little overwhelming but welcomed, i was on ifrit so i started on Odin i will reach out to you when i can for a linkshell? Definitely missing the community aspect 😢
A warning for new players. The unity teleporting can drop you right into danger which will end up sending you right back to the home point. Found that out earlier teleporting into la theine plateau right in front of a ram lol
The teleports are nice and all but there is no use for airships now, made lots of friends and started many adventures while waiting on an airship. Takes away some of the game’s charm imo.
Thanks for this video. I'm seriously considering returning after like a decade or more away. Are some zones still level capped, or will I be able to power through them if I sufficiently over-level beforehand?
Unless you have the points built up you can't click the chest everyday. You have to get 50 points first. So if you are like me you get 50 and use them then have to wait a week lol. I do use the unity points to get the gobbie dial key though
The gear sets are one of the most frustrating ideas i ever used in this game.SO what happens is if you move an item and idk exactly how it messes up but if you change the dynamic and static settings and /or try and delete any sets you lose access to those items. So i somehow moves a few items of that item set and no matter what i did i could not see those items anywhere on my character but were shown as grayed out on a gear set that was "supposed " to be deleted already.
Anyone else miss this dudes content, and go on random binges through old videos?
Trials are still going in 2020. I sort of wish they would combine the subs for ff14 and ff11, so people can play either or.

He was awesome.
i go play on line said not secure
(You need canal access if you don't have people to help you get past the three mage gate after all.)
One of the people I started playing along with at times wanted to play the game, and I was like, "Why not," since I literally had nothing more to do in FFXIV until 4.56.
I wish I saw this video when I came back to play a week ago. It is so overwhelming how much content there is.
oh, my friend and i are starting the free trial of this, thanks for the vid! :)
Ya! Being able to just duo or trio whatever you feel like working on is an amazing change ^^ thanks for checking it out!
Wow this is required watching! Thanks for putting this together! After spending 8 years afk, its the same beautiful Vanadiel but a brand new game. You should take sections of this and expand a bit in their own videos
Got into FFXIV during lockdown,
Haven't touched FFXI since Xbox 360, just bought it on PC. Farewell XIV, we going back to the beginning baby
I am glad TH-cam suggested this video. I returned on a whim and see a bunch of stuff I am doing is a waste of time because Square adapted the game around a lack of crafters. I'm on Sylph and can't tell what the economy is or what's the value of gil.
Thanks! I am starting to play FF XI for the first time :D very helpful
Remora server, was it? 75 SMN raiding in SKY and the literal journey getting all the avatars and getting there was still to this day the greatest gaming experience of my life.
I'm coming back to pickup where i left off!
Great guide on how to start again. Its been years but started to get back into it
When should I start the missions for progressing through the expansions?
I was a beta tester on the PS2 when it was brand new... I had no idea this was still out and running! I haven't played this in 13-14 years or more... wow.
I just recently came back to this game on my old stomping grounds of Asura, after a few year hiatus and its still just as amazing as it used to be. Just need to figure out which job to focus on (pet jobs ftw!) and gear it and get some job points on it so I can go into more high end content again. Also need a good returner ls still. Still even solo for the moment its a hoot
I'm debating getting it again too! Is your server pretty full or does it feel empty?
@@NolanB91 Server is fairly full a lot of the time. I know a week or so ago I looked and there were over 3k ppl online
@@MicaDoesStuff oh dang!! Will definitely look into it and get on Asura then :)
I’m in this video! Haha. Love the content, I watched a lot before deciding to come back
hahah yus! glad you're back, hope you're enjoying it ^^
information overload!! but i'm only lv30ish atm so yeah.. i'm so happy to be back after some 15 years!! i will definitely reference back here for gearing up at 99
This might be a 2 year old video but I quit ffxi in 05 and I just started playing WingsXI and I'm having the best time I've had in a long time.
An hour long??? Hell yeah. Can't wait to be home and on wifi to watch it
Hahah took us a while to get through this stuff, and it’s still only bare bones
the area of effect thing does work on macros if you have or in your macros
Really enjoy your content. Cheers from lakshmi
This looks more like an mmo rather than 14. Should I purchase the game on steam? I kind of want to try it
Do it !!!
You should make a 5+ hour video tutorial of the game. I would watch every minute.
Very good guide, thanks very much. Haven't played since September 2012, so much has changed...
Very different for sure! And any time!
I love this game been playing since 2004
Playing ffxiv atm planning on returning once I get the content done loved ffxi but wasting time just for a chance to get a group killed the fun. Trusts will be a godsend in this regard though will be focusing on grouping with others in the meantime.
as a veteran player, I watched this video for no other reason than to support the channel, then I actually learned something. the focus target thing, had no idea lol.
Hahah I learned that while making the video, but thanks dude ^^
Me and two other of my friends are returning this week!
This was my First MMO. It was Phenomenal!!!
Lucky you. Mine was World of Borecraft.
Subjob can also be unlocked by finishing Rhapsodies of Vanadiel Mission 1-4 (which is really easy to do)
I bought the ps2 version when it first came out played on and off for all these years but now that I have 5 kids I don’t have time to play anymore, I still play ffxiv here and there but now I pass my gaming onto the next generation :)
Added note on the world pass section of this. You actually do not need world passes anymore. You choose your world when you make your character. The only benefit of a gold world pass is the fun little items you can get over time, which is still nice.
Great to know! Thanks so much
I love how you start your videos.
Thanks a ton! No linkshells available today, I'll keep checking
Send a tell to Longsnake and let him know. He'll either restock them or give you a pearl.

My character name is Ebacent. I'm usually on in the evening. If you want i can get you in.
I am just now re-dling the game. I remember how slow EVERYTHING use to be. Use to play pre expacs
I fucking knew I wasn't insane! I always wondered whether or not I remembered correctly that TP used to be up to 300.
i used to play a lot that game... I had a max lvl WHM/BLM. I've been seriously thinking about playing it again.
Since most of us who played this game in our early 20's as bachelors are now late 30's to early 40's with responsibilities outside FFXI :)
amazing guide, now I want to get back to the game again
After watching this video it made me want to play again. Great video and hope to see you online Hayden. Are there aby active linkshells still out there? I would love to join them.
you forgot /lockstyle on ...for such a gear swapping centric game where your character blinks everytimne you gear swap this is pretty vital. I dont believe they didnt add this until like 2015 . before that you had to use a third party tool or watch your char blink every few seconds! to be fair things were slower at 75 cap so it wasnt quite as bad but still annoying!
Great job as always. Some questions. How many slots are the mog wardrobes? Also is it two to three bucks for 3 and 4 or each wardrobe costs that?
I left live servers and start playing on a privet one, not to save money but i wanted the pre lvl 75.
If SE made a classic remastered pre 75 server i would jump on in a heart beat.
Great video and perfect timing! Just came back from last playing in 2007/8... definitely been enjoying the game like old times a lot of new stuff is a little overwhelming but welcomed, i was on ifrit so i started on Odin i will reach out to you when i can for a linkshell? Definitely missing the community aspect 😢
Ya reach out! Glad to hear you’re back and enjoying it ^^
Yep, just re-subbed. 😂
wow... i remember getting a party together to do the craigs.... dam i miss this. It's not the same anymore. nothing is.
If you want that charm back.... google Nasomi or Eden FFXI
Thanks for this video. I'm seriously considering returning after like a decade or more away. Are some zones still level capped, or will I be able to power through them if I sufficiently over-level beforehand?
Every video... makes it harder to stay away! Thanks for another video.
hey nice video could you tell me how you change the size of the chat window please and thank you
I love this game. Still playing since 2004
Can you imagine if all the people that miss this game, like myself, started playing again?
Cool I'll tryout Black mage mixed with Red Mage.
Unless you have the points built up you can't click the chest everyday. You have to get 50 points first. So if you are like me you get 50 and use them then have to wait a week lol. I do use the unity points to get the gobbie dial key though
Great guide!! I was away for 5 years.. came back 5 months ago, and am REALLY into it again.. It is not too bad to get into it again :)
I just started my free trial yesterday, so its definitely possible now.
Have you kept at it?
The gear sets are one of the most frustrating ideas i ever used in this game.SO what happens is if you move an item and idk exactly how it messes up but if you change the dynamic and static settings and /or try and delete any sets you lose access to those items. So i somehow moves a few items of that item set and no matter what i did i could not see those items anywhere on my character but were shown as grayed out on a gear set that was "supposed " to be deleted already.
the era of the mpk were the best times...
Yea it was annoying, but this game had the best immersion hands down.
Loved my time in XI. It’s a great game.
definitely :)
Awesome man, thank you for making this! Shame your not on my Server.
