What do you think makes a successful aquarium? I find my algaescape absolutely riveting! I think its the combo of the fish, the colors, and the textures.

A successful tank is when the fish thrive, and are healthy. Other than that everything else is a bonus.

"you don't have to follow the rules to be successful"
ain't that the truth. My most successful saltwater tank was a 20 gallon reef that rarely saw water changes.

I love how chill you are about some stuff, not fussing and forcing things to be "perfect." Makes for a much more organic and enjoyable tank. I think if the fish are happy and healthy, and the tank is stable and doesn't require constant tweaking to keep it in balance, that's a success.

Beautiful tank! I think apart from its uniqueness, it gives off a very natural feel that's why people are gravitated to it. Happy healthy plants can fend off algae naturally.

With animal husbandry, I've found that "rules" are more like "loose guides". Especially when I engaged more with Permaculture, I've learned that nature can adapt in ways that are unexpected. Sometimes good, sometimes to our detriment.
Success is subjective, imo, it depends on what your goals are as a hobbyist~
As a breeder, I personally like to create planted scapes that emulate natural environments for specific species, to encourage natural breeding and social behaviors. To me, if I can achieve a natural and aesthetically pleasing breeding tanks, I'm happy. :)
nothing against breeders that do bare tanks!
I love the Algae scape, it looks like a flooded field. :)

While growing up in the sticks of Indiana and visiting my relatives farms in Pennsylvania the outdoors is what I love. Your natural looking tanks are just so wonderful to look at. Just about every natural tank you have reminds me of some section of pond, river or lake that I have seen. That to me is what makes a successful tank.
On another note when I set up a tank and tell my children where I think every fish will hang out and I am correct- that also makes a successful tank. My boys wonder how I know and I just tell them I pay attention to nature.

My most successful tank is my experiment tank-- no heater, no ferts, water changes only when I accidentally overfeed-- and it's full of happy, fertile guppies and happy, fertile snails and happy, fertile java fern. I also love using algae is an aquascaping plant, trimming and cleaning it as it grows to keep the look I want, because I want my tanks to be beautiful boxes of nature!

  • @ReneesZooTube
    @ReneesZooTube 5 ปีที่แล้ว

I agree that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. A successful tank, in my opinion, is one that you want to keep coming back to just to look at it over and over, one that you want to spend time relaxing in front of and watching. For some that's lots of scaping. For others it's a sparkling clean bare tank with lots of new fry. I really resonate with doing what you like, what's enjoyable to you. There's so many different ways to do things in this hobby. I also think it's important to respect those who do things differently from you, as long as the fish are healthy and well cared for. There's no one right way to do things. Rigidity and exclusion will kill the hobby. Not anything you've done, but what I've seen from some others.

“What makes a tank successful?” For starters - when you have healthy fish and you find joy and peace just staring at it... that’s all that really matters. 😉 The knowledge and enrichment we gain from research/experience, the friends we gain in the community, preserving endangered species when we can... all major perks.

The bettas are amazing. The danios and rasboras are so active and healthy. I love your fishroom because you don't try to force uniformity on each and every tank. You let them evolve and be what they are going to be. It's fascinating to see different tanks with the same water and temps grow wildly different. This tank is a perfect example of that. The fish, plants and algae are all thriving, and it looks crazy good.

I think it looks stunning. I have a 65g that, according to the internet stocking adviser, is 199% overstocked! When you look at my tank it looks empty, as all my fish are quite small. I have 10 black skirt tetras, 12 cherry barbs, 8 betta smaragdina and 18 juvenile (1.5”) bristlenose plecos. It’s heavily planted with anubias, has trees made from spider wood and several caves. My parameters are always good and I do a 20% water change every day, removing uneaten food at the same time. I feel my tank is successful but I know that once my bristlenose reach full size I will have to put some of them in a tank of their own.

I got a 10 gallon tank with 10 ember tetras, planning on adding a wild betta as a center piece. My 3 options are betta imbellis, alien, or smaragdina. I’ll take my time choosing as I need my 10 gallon and my ember tetras to reach an equilibrium first before adding my final fish.

I have always loved this tank for the simple reason that it highlights Chili Rasboras against the green of the algae! Although I liked it even before the algae showed up. And the fact that it was a 20 long I could more closely relate to. I agree though, it's whatever you like that makes it "successful in appearance." But, for me, I like tanks to have live plants, and lots of botanicals. I almost wish some of my pods would grow algae like that! And I like this tank to watch for the cameo appearances of the embelis...(not sure of the plural embeli?)
