i couldn't think of a better analogy but imagine if the movie makers of sonic the hedgehog were ignorant to the critcism and released the original version. they listened to their audience and put enough effort to please the audience. surely we all know the aftermath. now i'm in no way trying to undermine lilly's hard work and her frustration. but maybe you should listen to ppl who's criticizing u, no matter if they're someone professional or someone who's from a "community". it just makes u look arrogant if u brush away all criticism as negativity, whether it's constructive or not
@@hamsterwheel why am I gonna take criticism. Who is gonna be so negative n such an asshole toward you. When you have no idea what it like or what i'm going thru. Now if you doing it from a place of love n being positive. Wanna see me do better n succeed. Then I can understand ppl points. I think she just pointing out the ppl that being total dik to her n ppl that are not there for her.
Ironically, her ignoring feedback coming from the audience was also one of the main criticisms. In hindsight I can see that she couldn't have fixed the show, simply didn't have the resources.

I love how you went digging deeper. We see over and over how most high-achievers and 'disruptors' are just little wounded children looking for love and acknowledgement, waiting for someone they care enough to tell them *you're good enough, I'm proud of you.* Something I'm still definitely working on myself..
Yes! I was just thinking that after watching just 3 episodes of this podcast, ive learned so much not just about myself but about life and society in a way i can better understand. Its all so compelling
I got full body chills when Lilly spoke about her grandfather admitting the fact that he was wrong because this is a very rare phenomenon in Indian household (maybe once in a lifetime opportunity). I would give anything to experience first hand. I can relate to Lilly on so many levels. I'm an ambitious Indian queer(not out yet) teen who dreams of achieving many of these firsts in my family. This does puts a toll on me mentally and physically but the end goal is worth it. A good amount of people have their eyes on me and they are eagerly waiting to witness my failure and experience the satisfaction of their point being proven that I'm a lost cause. I get nervous & afraid often but I'm not ready to quit yet.
This is one of the best one on one interviews I watched of Lilly. I wanted this raw side of her. She’s a very conscious and wise person and hearing her perspective and experiences was insightful
Her show made her race and sexuality the main premise … which came of so try hard especially when her core demo was 11-15 when she was on TH-cam I’ll still always admire her work ethic and most of the things she did up until the talk show but I stopped following her when I was sixteen because there was such a disconnect between the real her and her online persona so glad I got to see this side of her x
I agree, I remember watching her when I was younger but my disconnect here was how she says sooo many ppl relied on her to show a communities experience but if I remember correctly on her way to the top she kept making her self a champion of those community and minorities so it’s kind of 50/50 for me, it’s the communities fault for thinking she was gonna capture it all and her for building her platform off of saying she was speaking for them, and she still does even in this interview rather than just saying her experience
Ohhhh that was Soo profound! Her inability to forgive others is due to her inability to forgive herself. It resonated so much for me. Thanks for doing this interview to you both!
Interesting how Lily describes having unrealistic expectations projected on to her growing up, and then found her adult self in an environment where the same thing happened again (hosting the late night show). Human beings, and the subconscious mind, are fascinating. Great interview.
I've always loved the unpretentious honest raw side of Lilly most, even more than the comedy. Seems like she's relaxing into being herself again and hope the world gives her many better opportunities to shine.
I’m less than 16 minutes in and I’m gripped! The amount of self-awareness by Lily (and Steven too) is heartening. “Believe in what you believe so much more than the hurt you feel”-such good stuff so early in the convo I’ve stopped to subscribe and share a comment.
Lily gets a lot of shit now but people forget she really did pave the way, and was so iconic back then. What she said about forgiving and loving yourself unconditionally was so relatable!

Having started a very deep relationship with an Indian second born daughter, I am learning. We are both looking at our childhoods together. This is a fascinating muse for some of our conversations Steven. Thank you both. Sending love and positive thoughts.
Lilly has been relatable ever since I started watching her content at 14 years old. Being raised in an asian family strict with accomplishments as one's value made me unconsciously "disruptive" when I realized that I never wanted to be perfect, getting the highest scores in school and everything. I lost my motivation when I lost the idea of being accepted by the family. But this woman still strives for perfection for her passion, she fails and gets up stronger than before. You've been a great inspiration in my life. So I do hope that regardless of all the bad criticisms you creators get, please know that there will always be someone in the world that gets inspiration from you and gets encouragement from your words and content. Hoping for more success for both of you ♥
trust me I have watched hundreds of interviews of her but this one is so so unique! the host just brings out the soul out of a person. he's a gem. also, Lilly's energy here is so genuine and generous. this was some REAL TALK.
Totally identify with Lilly, when she was talking about how she felt she owed people to stay in TH-cam. I think this is something that gets most of everyone in their careers stuck and believe they should stick where they are because if not they are ungrateful or they don't deserve that change. She is such an inspiration for pushing through that and pivoting just as most successful people allow themselves to do that.
As a woman of color creative and child of immigrants I got so much out of this deep conversation thank you. So inspired and challenged by the inner work Lilly has done to love herself and find purpose and meaning in her life
Thank you for your honesty and sincerity, Lilly. I didn't know how much of a toll this whole internet thing took on her. I'm glad she's using it to empower herself and I hope more people can understand what she's going through. She seems like a sweet person who just got lost in all her ambition and fame.
I was one of those that switched off Lilly because of the show, and errr wow. Wow what perspective openness and truth. Thank you for being so honest and open, thank you to Steve for being a beacon. I’m learning so much about the human experience from this show.

this was such a real and raw interview, love seeing Lily on this level. She covered so many topics and points, so many people would not really have the guts to speak up on today!
Lilly’s evolving definition of success, through the recognition of Kali nature, leveraging the chip on her shoulder and applying grace instead of a spirit of entitlement…a gift to witness and nuggets to meditate on. Give thanks🙏🏾
What’s really interesting is seeing a different side of fame, we’ve hit a new generation where we can see a completely different side of the people we see on tv, people that used to be alien to us watching but now rather humanises them past fame. Love the podcast as always.
This was the BEST therapy session I could have ever had. Wow! Such a deep and vulnerable conversation. She explained things about myself that I needed to hear
I love the beginning where she speaks about breaking out of the patriarchal norms she was brought up and challenging the stereotypes against women that still exist today. It's not easy
I have been watching Lilly for a very long time probably over seven years. She was one of the first TH-camrs that I loved watching she was great when I was a kid. But then I grew up and just saw her everywhere media-wise and I never fully got to know her and her story. There was always that question mark of who she really is and who’s behind the whole front. and this episode was a bit eye-opening to how she operates and how she operated during her peak success so it was insightful and I have more respect for her. I think she has good ways to do things. I’m Indian myself and have a very similar background so she did disappoint me in that aspect when the show came out but this gives more explanation so good for you Lily.
so interesting to hear lilly's thoughts and experience on the talk show! so much goes on behind the scene that we don't get to see. this was such an insightful episode.
Been a big fan of Lilly and her hustle since the beginnings of TH-cam, she was out there doin it 💪🏼 mad respect. She used to say in her vlogs that she was workin, and it showed. She was in fact superwomannnn, she always kept it so real with her lists of things to do you could tell she was working and making things happen which led to her show bc there are so many ppl on TH-cam that could have had a show and broke the wall from online to tv but she did it bc she is strong and open and hardworking and willing to make the sacrifices to accomplish things that other pole may have not been able to. She was the first woman from Canada, and woman from a background of Indian culture and woman from online who did the darn thing. Good on you Lilly, you a true hustler
I love lily Singh! I am Chinese and a daughter. I totally understand what you are saying. But I don’t think we ever say it out loud. I really appreciate how honest you are pointing out patriarchy in our family and our culture.
I appreciate the rawness of this episode. It felt like I was stepping into her life, her brain and how it works. Can relate to several thoughts and emotions. Thank you for sharing xoxo
Idk how I’m just coming across this. What a great conversation. Been a Lilly fan from the beginning and have grown along with her. Love the journey she’s taking us. 🙏🏼😉
I like Lilly a lot, and loved her TH-cam channel, but her late night show was a mess. It did not showcase her talents; it was a disservice to her. She’s correct, I made up my mind after the first season, so I missed the improvements. It’s so nice to hear her explain what was going on. I’m happy to see her hit more successes! As always, an insightful interview.
I thoroughly enjoyed this conversation. Change is inevitable, growth is your choice. So happy to see her growth, and I'm exited to see what's next for her.
Goodness gracious. This interview was so enriching, informative, and has possibly helped to begin untangle some things in my own life. Great interviewer and equally great interviewee. So refreshing to see the person behind the persona, especially of one of the earliest Superstars of the TH-cam generation. Would love a part two in a few years...
I’m late but this was such a great interview , soo realistic and so important with regards to many facets of life, especially when it comes to parents and children expectations. Well done to you both and thank you!
I've been an avid subscriber of Lilly back in 2015 and I really admired her for her hustle. and ngl, she inspired me to be more like her. I met her at the TH-cam Fanfest back in 2017 and we only had a short interaction and it was super quick 'cause she was under the clock. but she and her team were super nice ❤ it's been a while since I've followed everything that Lilly does, and I'm glad you featured her here. it felt like catching up with an old friend. I definitely can see that she's more settled with herself now and not overcompensating like she seemed to do more in the past (just by comparing what she showed to the public at the time). this is such a refreshing conversation and I'm super glad about her progress and all her achievements 🤍
Can’t believe you did an interview with Lilly - she is one of my biggest idols!! One of the things she said in the interview that really got me was “you can’t expect to grown without change”. Just wow!! Loved every second of this podcast!
Such a phenomenal episode !! I‘ve been watching Lilly for years, and it’s fantastic to see her talk to so openly. It shows the amount of growth and personal work she’s gone through. The questions were also not only deep but framed in such a respectful and curious way to her craft and her as a person. Love this episode and wishing you both the best 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
It’s good but also not because he doesn’t love her for who she is but what she became , had she not done all she did, he would not have acknowledged her still so no.
I don't know if she slowed down during the interview or if I got used to her relentless energy. glad she is getting to find places of calm with the breathing. I thoroughly enjoyed this and your entire series. thank you.
oh my god... couldn't watch it beyond @53:00 mins. having existential crisis already... it is a good video and I will return to it. but she is making me question every thing and every aspect of my life. all my life I spent so time to please other people that now I'm worried about my self.
That’s why I don’t judge anyone because we are literally all trying to figure stuff out. I didn’t like the show but not because of the hate, I just happened to fall off of Lilly’s content around 2016~ because her comedy didn’t resonate w me anymore 😂 but I always had love for her. I’m going to admit that I did think she was trying too hard to be something she wasn’t and that’s why it fell flat for me i could sense that i mean everyone could see it but I just imagined her being nervous as hell and just trying her best to stay on script. if you’re reading please just be yourself mamas, take it easy you’re naturally funny and a beautiful soul!
This is so incredibly relatable and well put. The core of becoming a better person begins with self-reflection and accountability, and I think it’s amazing how Lily explained her struggles that stemmed from her upbringing and how she overcame generational trauma and expectations. What an inspiring podcast!! 🥹🫶🏼
" Is the struggle worth it?" Lily Singh Goes down in history as the number 1 TH-camr when the exponential model was still a mirage. A disrupter! I love you Lily Singh. You are a true inspiration!
I absolutely love this woman! Been a fan since start, watched her going through ups and downs and navigating this rather judgemental world of social media. More power to you lily! And thanks Steven for bringing her on!
Lilly strikes me as the type of individual that is neurodivergent. So much of what she says, I can relate to. In the way her mind works and the way, she operates as a person. I questioned for so many years, why am I different? why am I like this? I found out I have ADHD last year lmao. Even if Lilly isn't neurodivergent, she's definitely someone that's the prototype in her family line. She's the cycle breaker, she sees beyond her conditioning and actually wants to ask and answer the greater questions about purpose.
I watched Lilly back in the day but then grew out of her content when it became the same jokes over and over and just a bit young for me. I didn't hear about her again until years later when she had her late night show and all the memes, commentary videos and then when she got cancelled on twitter. Not gonna lie I did find her majorly cringey for a while but it's nice to see she recognises her faults and she's doing the work to become better. Amazing interview as always!!!
As much as I respect her achievements and accolades and there is much to be impressed about....she is still operating from a glass that is half full....which is perfectly understandable. She has never gotten over the fact that at birth, she was not welcomed by every member of her family. Even now, as a successful adult she is championing perfection to the ninth degree. I wish her peace of mind and senerity as she moves through her life.
Brilliant, fantastic woman. I didn’t know she did a late night show I go to bed too early. 😂 so glad she works on constant evolution and learning. Much more happiness and success to come for you Lily!
I followed Lilly from early youtube days. I could see she was not comfortable and enjoying the first season. It was not nice to watch her go through that agony. The second season was really fun and enjoyable. I will always be a fan. All the best with all your future plans. ❤
This was a very thought provoking episode. I’m surprised to hear she was cancelled for a genuine error in a situation she was clearly misaligned with, whereas Jay Shetty who deliberately plagiarised wasn’t.
i love her so much.. always someone i'll keep looking up to, from the early canada videos on yt to who she has become now i love seeing her grow and better herself while remaining a gentle and kind soul through it all. i truly wish her peace and happiness and the best for her. also being this open and vulnerable is not easy so props to her and steven for creating this amazing conversation
I also realized during the pandemic that everything I created, who I became (labels, personality, and all) was created based off my surroundings and conforming or people pleasing. That's a tough pill to swallow. I still operate that way in many ways subconsciously or when I don't have the energy to handle the consequences of rebelling, but I appreciate the drastic shift at the time that has led me to create smaller daily actions that are making me the person I am today.
WOW, what a captivating conversation this was! THANK YOU! Thank you Steven for the amazing questions and thank you Lilly for REALLY answering the questions, even the most uncomfortable ones for you with pure honesty!
I loved this conversation. So proud to see someone that looks like me have such an open and honest conversation about therapy, success and failures and how she coped through it all
It's crazy people just blamed her for the show not working. As if she was in control of everything. People doing all kinda of judging from behind their little phones. Listen Linda no one asked you.
Hi everyone! Well what can I say. I'm in my 60s but I thought Lilly conversation was great. At first I couldn't keep up with her energy, I felt out of breathe.
Lily paved the way for Hasan Minaj & Vir Das. She familiarised the west with Indians in a very relatable way.
Phenomenal interview! Loved how much honesty and vulnerability both of you brought. Bravo!
Great conversation ! Loved re discovering her and seeing her growth !
She shared a lot of typical sentiments growing up in an Indian home. Constantly policed, watched, disciplined and criticized.
Lilly, such an incredible woman, intelligent and so articulate. I can listen to her forever. Thanks for such a deep and veru volnurable interview.
This woman is very wise. I could listen to her for hours and not get bored.
I met her at the TH-cam Fanfest back in 2017 and we only had a short interaction and it was super quick 'cause she was under the clock. but she and her team were super nice ❤
it's been a while since I've followed everything that Lilly does, and I'm glad you featured her here. it felt like catching up with an old friend. I definitely can see that she's more settled with herself now and not overcompensating like she seemed to do more in the past (just by comparing what she showed to the public at the time).
this is such a refreshing conversation and I'm super glad about her progress and all her achievements 🤍
This podcast has given me so much food for thought, loved every bit ❤️
Can’t believe you did an interview with Lilly - she is one of my biggest idols!! One of the things she said in the interview that really got me was “you can’t expect to grown without change”. Just wow!! Loved every second of this podcast!
This interview spoke a lot of my worldview into words. She can articulate the importance of disruption so well.
Lilly's grandfather admitting he was wrong plus saying she made the family proud 😢❤
It’s good but also not because he doesn’t love her for who she is but what she became , had she not done all she did, he would not have acknowledged her still so no.
I don't know if she slowed down during the interview or if I got used to her relentless energy. glad she is getting to find places of calm with the breathing. I thoroughly enjoyed this and your entire series. thank you.
I love the fact that Lily is empathetic towards her parents
oh my god... couldn't watch it beyond @53:00 mins. having existential crisis already... it is a good video and I will return to it. but she is making me question every thing and every aspect of my life. all my life I spent so time to please other people that now I'm worried about my self.
This completely changed my view of her. Especially her talking about the constraints placed on her late night show.
God I love Lilly!!!!!!!! Her vulnerability and honesty is inspiring and contagious 💜💜💜
As a person who gave hate to her show I felt everything she said on another level.
Sis is hosting the Oscars, she is doing just fine without TH-cam 🙌
" Is the struggle worth it?" Lily Singh
Goes down in history as the number 1 TH-camr when the exponential model was still a mirage.
A disrupter!
I love you Lily Singh.
You are a true inspiration!
This video deserves more views! It’s so good, concise, genuine and deep
I absolutely love this woman! Been a fan since start, watched her going through ups and downs and navigating this rather judgemental world of social media. More power to you lily! And thanks Steven for bringing her on!
1:00:32 very relatable. It is such a hard thing to realize you have never really thought about who you are, and what you want and love.
Wow surprised to see an indian women here…someone who who represents me. Great to see steven xxxx
I've always loved hearing Lilly talk, you always learn and feel inspired. Love her, this was great ❤
I watched Lilly back in the day but then grew out of her content when it became the same jokes over and over and just a bit young for me.
I got goosebumps hearing about how her great grandfather greeted her in India. “Progress comes from making disruptions”
I love everything about this interview!
I just don't want to stop listening to her!
Respect for your honesty , Lilly Wishing you a great future
You are such an inspiration Lily! I love your voice! You are so refreshing! I wish you growth and success with anything you do in your life!
I had heard her name, but had no idea who she is and what she's done. This is a wonderful introduction.
Heavy on the creativity was a phase! I thought it was something you do in a pastime, so glad I've realised I can do it full-time.
This was a very thought provoking episode. I’m surprised to hear she was cancelled for a genuine error in a situation she was clearly misaligned with, whereas Jay Shetty who deliberately plagiarised wasn’t.
Felt every second of the past 1h30 pretty deep♥️ thank you both♥️
One of the few conversations I like to come back to , so many jewels in this one
i love her so much.. always someone i'll keep looking up to, from the early canada videos on yt to who she has become now i love seeing her grow and better herself while remaining a gentle and kind soul through it all. i truly wish her peace and happiness and the best for her.
also being this open and vulnerable is not easy so props to her and steven for creating this amazing conversation
I also realized during the pandemic that everything I created, who I became (labels, personality, and all) was created based off my surroundings and conforming or people pleasing. That's a tough pill to swallow. I still operate that way in many ways subconsciously or when I don't have the energy to handle the consequences of rebelling, but I appreciate the drastic shift at the time that has led me to create smaller daily actions that are making me the person I am today.
season 2 of her show was amazing. She seemed a lot more comfortable and relaxed. It was enjoyable to watch
WOW, what a captivating conversation this was! THANK YOU! Thank you Steven for the amazing questions and thank you Lilly for REALLY answering the questions, even the most uncomfortable ones for you with pure honesty!
I loved this conversation. So proud to see someone that looks like me have such an open and honest conversation about therapy, success and failures and how she coped through it all
Lily you are incredible and I'm rooting for you, STILL.
The fact that her parents gave her a year is what pushed her to be greater! I love it
Broooooooooooo.....your house in the US is WOW!!!!
When the interview finished I had a smile on my face.
Believe it or not I could relate to quiet a few things. Sometimes I think we expect others to be like carbon copies of ourselves.
Thank you both.
Steve would you invite me to your show even though I live in Ceuta, Spain. I'm English from Widnes 🙄😂
The universe has not spun me in the Lilly orbit before, but I really like her. Fascinating listen 🤜🤛
as always.. another Fantastic episode! I love this girl! she is so honest and expressive, it's truly amazing!
