That thing is awesome. One of my favorite engines of all time, no doubt.
Can you imagine this highly detailed locomotive outfitted with full Legacy including whistle steam and pop-off steam with the proper Hooter whistle? The only thing remaining would be to get rid of those oversized flanges and put scale flanges on all wheels. With today's track systems, it would operate just fine.
Gotta love the H8s. Mines is in N scale and lovely to look at and run. Just brutally handsome..

At the start of the video i was like "hey that reverser rod looks so good it looks like it could mo-" then it moved and i lost my mind

FYI, your Allegheny has the same whistle as does the Legacy Allegheny, just not quill-able. I have this same model and I am seriously thinking of upgrading it to full Legacy including whistle steam and drilling out the firebox doors in the cab for a flickering fire.
That would be a really cool upgrade. I could see myself installing PS3 into this and a few other 3rd Rails once their old TAS electronics give out.
@@milehirail8877 Yes PS3 would be great. The thing I like about DCS which I don't like about Legacy (and certainly TMCC) was the fact that you had controls over individual things within the performance of your locomotive. For example - How many chuffs/revolution do you want? Is your bell on steroids compared to the volume of your whistle. I love the fact that even the older PS2 had all of these options, TMCC certainly didn't. Not even Legacy has this level of individual control. Where Legacy can match DCS is the ultra-slow start out speed (actually is better than DCS and that's saying something) but the sound system found in Legacy is definitely superior. What would be great would be to combine all the best of DCS with all the best of Legacy into one system of control. I'm having four of my K-Line steamers with TMCC upgraded to PS3. These models look far better than their performance so they certainly deserve these DCS upgrades.
I don’t think much of the sound. I have MTH’s HO version of this and I can freak out the neighbours with its rich full bass sound.

@@milehirail8877 Good lord, I was wondering if anyone went in for these given the price tag. Someday I hope t get a 3rd Rail Steamer, but this one was out of what I want to spend for 1 engine. Although Lionel is starting to push those limits, lol. Great Engine, I hope it does well for you.
@@GoldStandardTrains I should clarify that this is the Anniversary Edition Allegheny from 2006. It’s probably similar in detail to the upcoming Allegheny release but lacks some of the other features like color changing class lights and lighted cab gauges.
@@milehirail8877 Oh ok that is my confusion, I didn't know they released an Anniversary edition Allegheny prior. I thought it was the most recently cataloged one from Sunset and you had gotten it in. That one looks like it'll be incredibly detailed(should be for the price tag). This one is very very nice regardless.

@Milehirail - what year did this 3rd Rail Brass Allegheny come out? How fast does it go? AND does it have a SMOKE UNIT for the "SMOKE EFFECT" as the train is operating?
Yes it has smoke and can go pretty fast. Came out in 2006.
@@milehirail8877 THANKS for your response! Just 1 more question, does the WEIGHT of this 3rd RAIL BRASS Allegheny slow it down when it comes to SPEED when compared to LIONEL & the MTH versions?
I would like to know before having to SHELL OUT the 💰💰for this model.
From what I see in your video of this ALLEGHENY 2-6-6-6 and from other ones I've seen from LIONEL VISION LINE, this one from 3rd RAIL is AWESOME!
@@BXGUY73 This 3rd Rail Allegheny is heavy but it can definitely boogie. It has EOB cruise control, so it'll maintain constant speed, fast or slow, just like MTH's or Lionel's. If you get one I think you'll be very pleased with it. It's far superior to Allegheny's from MTH and Lionel
