    This is what I call a naturally weathered model train, looks fantastic.

    You never fail to surprise me at how well you can restore a model to its original condition

    Have to admit. the water damage looked a little rough, but it added a pretty cool weathering effect to the body. Well done with the restoration Sid.

    Sid - IMO this is your best video. I think this is your niche and you should do more of these “how to vids”. Kinda like Norm does the buildings and landscape vids, you could do the how to fix it vids/ maintain/ service model trains, plus Trainz is starting a learning course for fixing model trains. There’s certainly an angle / connection for you there. Thanks again.

    I always admire the knowledge and care you show when restoring an engine, Sid. This GG1 has been given a new life through your attention to detail and testing. I have a feeling that it was trapped in a badly flooded basement (not uncommon these days) and just frustrated the previous owner. A very impressive restoration! Looks really sharp now!

    I like that model so much, seeing it in operation, I’m thinking I should get one for my collection. Very cool Sid!!! My layout can’t handle the minimum radius but it sure makes a great display piece, especially if you can operate the pantographs and smoke somehow. You got me thinking!! Jerry

    Wow you did a amazing job getting that engine to run. It looks really good. I never knew you could use rubbing alcohol to clean up corrosion on a painted surface without damaging the paint. Real nice work!

    • @SidsTrains
      @SidsTrains  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The rubbing alcohol was not used on the shell of the engine. Only on the electrical and metal components. I used basic soap and water on the painted parts.

    Outstanding job Sid!! You really have a great talent for fixing the high tech equipment. Do you take on fixing other peoples locomotives and rolling stock? I have a Century Club II Empire State Express locomotive with the Smart Smoke Unit that I replaced, and it still won’t work. It needs someone like you with your expertise. Let me know.

    Great job with the restoration. I'm wondering that since the GG1 was all electric, why does it smoke? Also, Lionel at that time, as well as MTH had no idea as to the real sounds of a GG1. As all electrics, they had traction motors and they had the distinctive rising pitch sound of traction motors and gears as they accelerated. These fantastic engines traveled along the Northeast Corridor within a few blocks of my home until they were retired. I remember them well.

    • @RailRide
      @RailRide ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The smoke is supposed to represent a steam generator for the passenger consist.

  • @dantiel4179

    I’ve got a GG one that may not run good because somethings missing or maybe it might be the component inside so I ordered another one that’s got sound and everything to it and they said it runs like like Neue nothings wrong with it I got it off of eBay and I’m very satisfied when I get it it’s got sounds in the whole works so GG one is a good worker and pulls lotta cars

    Hi Sid, I have a new Atlas premier SD70 essential workers 4404 got it in april, it's pulling very high amps just at idle: 6-8 amps the mid section of shell gets very very warm, I'll be taking it for repair today but would you have an idea what is causing this? Thanks
