DIY Bass Boat Restoration: Flipping Boat Over To Repair Gel Coat | Part 4 - Triton TR-20 Build

  • Using an automotive rotisserie we've managed to get the hull upside down which is going to be so much better for me having to sand out all the osmosis blistering and stress cracking in the gel coat. Flipping a bass boat hull has a lot of interesting challenges compared to flipping a car, as there is nowhere to really grab on to the bow, other than the bow eye. The prep work to make sure the boat was safe to go over took 10x as long as actually flipping it, but was totally worth the effort. We've started to build a DIY spray booth for dust and overspray containment inside the shop and the next step is to get the air board out and start sanding the poor old 1999 Triton TR20 gel coat.
    As per usual guys, drop a like and a comment and if you want to keep us motived to make more videos like this one, please subscribe, it's what keeps us going!
    Cheers!

    Cool rotisserie device you built there to swing the boat onto the bottom. Takes me back to my days of repairing boats with my grandfather. He taught me everything I know about fibreglass/general composites work. Cant wait to see the next video and this thing ripping out on the water. Love the pod-like windsheild design.

      @@FishingOntario Wasn't sure if you'd get my message. Thanks for the reply. I'm having a friend of mine, who knows more about this stuff than I do, take a look at the transom in the next week or so. It does have some spider cracks but still sounds solid when you tap it. Hulls in decent shape. Cracking in the gel coat in spots. Could use new carpet and old hoses and stuff replaced I'm sure. Maybe I could send you some pics and more of a diagnosis of transom once he takes a look. Is there a way to contact you outside of youtube? Thanks again.

    • @FishingOntario
      @FishingOntario  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Water, believe it or not! From sitting on wet bunks too much. The water absorbs into the gelcoat and breaks it down.

      It wasn't too bad cosmetically, but left unrepaired, the gel coat osmosis on the bottom of the hull would cause big problems.
