Wow, you show how not to be afraid of watercolour, but sitting watching you is like sitting on a cliff edge! Thanks for generously showing your process and mastery.
Sir the fact that amazes me is the way you use the very essence and nature of watercolor .........that proves you connect your soul with the colours............ greetings from the land of Abanindranath Tagore
Hi Soumen, thanks! I do love painting with a medium I feel completely connected to! When I paint in acrylics or oils I feel Ike a fish out of water! 👍🙏
Love this one Scott. With regard to a better rendition of the colours. Stuart Davies and others take a high quality, still photo of the finished painting and put that up at the end for viewers to see. It makes a significant difference.
Hi Jayne, glad you liked it. I thought it might be a bit long but I couldn’t really make it any shorter without missing out big chunks of the process. 👍🙏
Another stunning painting Scott, can't wait to have a go at this one! Truly enjoying watching and learning new techniques. Thank you for sharing. Loving the journey you've sent me on with watercolours x
Hi Carol, I'm really glad you are enjoying the video tutorials! It is always a journey for me too in watercolour! That's why I love it! Thanks for watching! Cheers Scott
Hi Starving Artist Collective! Thanks! Yes I do like that orientation and size really does make good proportions for many peoples homes! Thanks! Cheers Scott
Hi Eleanor! I do miss Scotland! I lived in Falkirk for over a year in 2003. Did heaps of rock climbing and lots of munroe’s! Fantastic place for inspiration for moody watercolours! Thanks for watching! 👍🙏
Interesting paper size that works so well with this scene. It's amazing to see how you "push the paint", it seems aa though you are just waiting for the right effect to take place and then you almost remove it by another later or further brush strokes. I guess that's all your experience and skill that gives you the confidence to do that. I love the way it builds, transforms and finally comes together. The paper scratches to add the white highlights was a stunning finale. A question for you Scott: when you say "cohesion" in the painting, what are you aiming for exactly? What do you look to adjust in order to achieve the desired cohesion you're looking for? It would be interesting to understand that a bit more. Thank you
Hi Mark! Thanks for watching and I'm glad you like it! I think when I'm talking about cohesion is not too much fuss. Not too much for the eye to get distracted by and a clear sense of subject and harmony of colours and tones. It is a very good question to which I am not sure I have a clear answer. I look at the page and some part of me "knows" (sometimes gets this wrong though!) there is something not right and then I do something from a kind of gut instinct to make it towards where I feel it should go. Very abstract language I know but I do think it is a part of my brain or body that is not logical and does not have the normal kind of cognition we associate with a task. Hard to explain but that's the best I can do for now. I should probably unpack a bit what that process is for others. Cheers Scott
@@ScottSwinson thank you for your thoughtful and interesting reply. Perhaps these kind of things can't be unpacked, as it probably comes down to feeling and emotions that drive movements of the artist's hand. I'm not from an artistic background and I only started painting in watercolours about two years ago. I've been kind of teaching myself via TH-cam ever since then. I only discovered your channel recently and it has got me back into the landscapes. Trying to capture some of that magic that you work on the paper is a very tall order for me, but I'm having lots of fun trying. Thanks for your wonderful videos.
After doing an exhibition of oils and grafite drawing I want to get iinto watercolour These tutorials are really helping me to change technique completely
Hi Helen, glad you found me and are enjoying the videos and work. It is great to be able to share something I really love and enjoy. I am lucky to have learnt from a man named Tony Smibert from a young age and so it is a good thing to be able to pass on that love of watercolour to others. Thanks for watching. Cheers Scott
These tutorials are fantastic, we get to see/and watch what I think is a laughable painting. But when you guys finish with them ,it's a major transformation. That's a outstanding painting.
Hi Bruce! I know it is a bit of an evolution! It's difficult to see the end at the beginning as a spectator! Thanks for watching and commenting! cheers scott
Wonderful Demonstration. Great style! New to your site and I can’t wait to try this. Looking forward to more of your videos. Thanks from Kaye in Ecuador.
Greetings from Alaska 😁 I thoroughly enjoyed this! I like to take a photo of an unfinished painting after it dries so if I’m not sure how to finish my work, and when I’m away from it, I’d look at it and see it at a different perspective.
Hi Twila! I’ve always wanted to go to Alaska! Was meant to go in 2004 but the round the world ticket I had stopped going there! One day...I would love to paint some of the mountains there! 👍
I love this! But, every time you go to add more I cringe thinking noooooo leave it but, it always turns out great! You must have bullet proof paper! Thank you!
There you go! This painting caught my eye when I saw your profile from that watercolor group page that was sharing each other's social media accounts to follow ..and I for sure subscribed in this channel with the question if you have a video showing how you painted this!!! I’m not sure about the other two brands you mentioned. I’ll have to feel them in the art supplies shop. You can tell how similar by looking and touching them. Let me know how you get on! 👍🙏
