Scott, this such a strong, exciting painting! It is positively inspiring. Thank you for going through all the effort to record your steps and explanations. I love your work, and how you focus on nature. It’s apparent that you are moved by the wonders of the universe too.
As yachties this painting scares me a bit. Have seen these ominous skies when sailing. Not a good feeling heading into it. Apart from my that, absolutely love the painting. Love to give it a go.
You’re a genius and I don’t say that lightly. Tried to give you some support with a “Thanks” but haven’t figured out to do it with Touch ID. Good luck and stay on your path of discovery. Love watching you.
Thanks Danielle! I don’t think I’m in the same league as Turner but it does have a Turner / sublime feel about it! Thank you! I totally love Turner! 👍👍
Hi Bruce! Thanks! Yes that applies to so many watercolours. They can look so simple but try and recreate it and it's more difficult than you thought. Happy painting mate!
I recently went to the JMW Turner exhibit at the Kimbell in Fort Worth, Texas. This painting of yours is so gorgeous and is as equally impressive as any one of Turner’s on exhibit!! The composition and drama of this reminds me of Turner’s style in many of his oil paintings. I know he did watercolor as well, but to me it’s so impressive how you achieved this kind of drama with watercolor as he did with his oil paintings. Just so amazing and stunning. I just love your work. Cheers!
Hi JHM! Thanks so much! You are too kind! I love his work! That painting of light is what interests me soo much! It is what drives me to keep painting and trying to capture the feeling of a place! Thanks so much for your comments! Cheers Scott
Hi Trish! You are always welcome! I hope people get the bug of watercolour like I did all those years ago! It is such an amazing medium unlike any other! Happy painting!
Thanks J Robson! I always love it if anyone uses his name when talking about one of my paintings! I have a lifetime ahead of me to try and get there! He was an amazing artist!
I absolutely love this painting! One can get lost in the dramatic story it represents! Very ominous!! Sometimes you scare me when it looks so perfect, and then you decide to throw more dark paint in! You’re always right, of course..It looks amazing!!
I just finished a watercolor of a house appearing out the mist and re-watching your spectacular ‘sailboat in a storm’ video reminded me of multiple things I did ‘wrong’. But the most significant mistake is that I made the house too big. The thing I love about watercolor is the ability to create credible, emotional atmosphere. I got the sky and reflections working pretty well, then I put this too large house in. I’m going to try again with a smaller house and trees. You, Tony Smibert and JMWTurner all keep most of your ‘reality’ details very small, thereby allowing the atmospherics to dominate the painting. Your corrections are also interesting. That slash of light (where the sailboat is) you removed was of particularly instructive. I need to be bolder with corrections. Anyway, thanks again for a brilliant video.
Hi Jackie! It is good to let go but if you are beginning in watercolour I suggest people actually have some structure in their leaning otherwise the whole idea of letting go and just being free can turn to a mess and be no fun, just overwhelming! Thanks for watching. Cheers Scott
Hi Scott. The left handed like us are the best 😁 I love watching pigments dancing on the paper, it's so Magic 🥰 In this painting I Can see the eye of the univers protecting the small boat and guiding him in a big storm. Next time I comment in french 😁 my phone always corrects what I try to write 😡 Don't forget your crassula, it will grow awfully inside the studio 😉
hi So Sorka! Glad you liked it! I will definitely move the plant! My wife wants it back anyway! As I burrowed it when we renovated the studio! My plant will thank you for your care and concern!
I am sure you will get closer and closer to where you want to be in watercolour. I don't think the road ever ends though! I'm gong to need a lifetime and then some! Happy painting! Cheers Scott
I really love your work. I was wondering, could you do a painting with fog coming across the hills or fog coming in between trees or fog across the water? I live in the San Francisco Bay area and I am having a difficult time trying to create fog. It would be wonderful to see you do this. Many thanks. Many many thanks for your time and energy for these videos. You are a master!!☺️
Hi Emmy! Glad you like it! As Sanshine said below you can switch off subtitles CC by clicking on the button. Google it if you can't work it out. Thanks for watching! Cheers Scott
Hi An the colours are in the description of every video and you should be able to put them into google translate to find out what they are....hope that helps. cheers Scott
I was watching you with the yacht...and yes Turner came straight to mind... love the light.....
Perfect..the yacht provides great scale to a dangerous storm.. inbound..!
Three strokes and I'd buy it 5 stokes and I couldn't afford it! Love your work...... If only my watching could make me an artist!

Tremendous , Scott
Thanks Gaz! Love a bit of gloaming light and atmosphere!
I absolutely love and appreciate Scott that you put a yacht into your great seascape I have wondered how to do this myself great finished 👍painting
Hi Tina! Yes a yacht was the right thing to put into this landscape!
Nature is awesome, created by God. Always keep that in mind. If it wasn't created you wouldn't have landscapes to paint.
The world is a beautiful place! 👍
Bad hair day? Seems to be lucky! Great painting!
Yes! I know! We have only just come out of a very long lockdown! No hair cut for months! Lol
@@ScottSwinson ha! We know all about that here in the States. Understood. I just cut 3 inches off of my head .
@@LavishHim yes I bet you do! 3 inches is a lot! I’m booked for the 2nd of November! Can’t wait! 👍👍👍👍

What kind of paper do you use? Does it have to be 100 percent cotton to get your fantastic effects?
Hi Den! I think if you want to paint lots of layers as this painting has then 100% cotton paper is needed! 👍👍
Wauwwwwww beautiful groetjes uit Nederland i painting to.
Thanks Marleen! Happy painting!

Ha great, d‘you have an opossum? Really? 😍
are you still on patrion?
Do you have the image in mind before you begin, or does it emerge spontaneously as you paint?
