This movie is criminally underrated in my opinion. It’s positive, whimsical and thoroughly enjoyable. Critics are too harsh on ambitious projects sometimes.
It wasn’t “in-your-face/action’y” enough for a faster paced movie for them, and it wasn’t political and controversial enough of a slow movie for them. Critics never appreciate a gem when ones made and only appreciates several years later.
Critics are like the old-timers at your workplace. They'll find the slightest oversight and expand it into some cardinal sin, so that they appear "insightful" and "know better than you". Critics wanna sound smart, like they have high standards, and have something useful to add. Unless it's a popular film like the Avengers, in which case they don't want the public to denounce them.
I love this film so much. Mitty's character hits me on a personal level. Being an Introvert and not able to express my thoughts comfortably, having a literal alternate reality where I own the world, this movie is under appreciated
This movie is a total gem. I love the character. the scenery, the adventure ! Took my eldest boy to see it when it came out - he was about 15 I think. i thought he might think it was a bit lame but he loved it. And now my 7 year old just got to know it - he loves it too !
This was the very first time I ever saw downhill longboarding and since this movie I've gone through my first 4 boards, rode down the internationally famous Maryhill Loops Road, and hit speeds upwards of 40mph. Thanks Secret Life Of Walter Mitty for exposing me
I went to Iceland a few years ago, and one of our tour guides one day said that during the summer season, he’ll see tourists long boarding on their steeper roads because of “the film Water Mitty, which was filmed HERE in Iceland!”
That's awesome. Glad to hear this movie touched so many people. It didn't have worldwide acclaim but that doesn't bother me. "Beautiful things don't ask for attention."
Overlooked fact: This is actually Ben Stiller doing the run. He grew up skateboarding, and while he was wearing a safety wire in some hairpin shots, this is legit him, not a stuntman. That was also him teaching the kid to flip his board in the earlier park scene.
What seriously? But I read somewhere that Rodney Mullen The Godfather of street skating acted as a stunt double for Ben Stiller in the central Park scene!
I feel like this is such an iconic scene, yet for some reason whenever I mention this movie to people I just get puzzled faces. It's sad. This is easily one of my favorite movies hands down. Totally relatable without over-exaggerating emotions.
I get the same response when I tell ppl I used to fly off cliffs on my snowboard under a full moon at 1am at Teton Pass. I guess we’re the ones that are alive and woke!
This film kind of saved my life. I had a similar case with Walter where I would imagine scenarios in my head so much that I got tired of living my actual life. I broke down when Space Oddity played in one of the scenes and the realization hit me like a truck.
It's interesting when you look back at various points of your life and at almost every juncture, for me at least, there is a movie that perfectly encapsulates your state of mind in almost every way. It isn't just a good movie anymore. It's ingrained into your presence that can never be erased. I wasn't in a good place when Walter Mitty came out, but I'll never forget how it made me feel like I wasn't alone. Transcendent.
I really agree. Just a few days ago, remembered the scene where he chose not to photograph the snow leopard. Didn’t remember the name of the movie. But that scene has impacted my way of thinking ever since

@@Vanlifecrisis yeah, but didn't they imply he had been an excellent skateboarder earlier in the film? I really enjoy this scene, but it feels like a missed opportunity. I’ve been downhill skateboarding since 2013. After a bad fall at around 45 miles per hour in 2016, I stopped - I focused on the multitude of other priorities in my life (including varsity cross country running, which happens to not mix kindly with high-speed skateboard crashes) and I seldom picked up my board for over four years. About six months ago, that changed. I’ve been skating every day again, and I’m better than ever. I’ve never felt more liberated than I do now, throwing massive slides and sticking tight lines around fast hairpin corners. It may sound ridiculous, but my skateboard has been there when I need it most - it’s one of the only things keeping me afloat in these trying times. The thing is, I never would have picked up a board in the first place if it weren’t for this scene. Say what you will about the movie. But this scene changed my life.

shows that the movie reviewers are really out of touch with what people really want in a movie. I think this film is really great, it has the element of romance, excitement and how people really perceive life when it comes to their decision making. Great film and awesome cinematic overall
I relate to this movie from being the loner shy kid sitting in the library everyday avoiding people to traveling the world and living in my favorite cities ♥️
Serious question: If you're going downhill on a longboard like this, how do you stop if you need to? It always looked like fun but I simply cannot ride anything I don't know how to stop.

This movie made me change my path in my life.
And I have never regret it.
Haven't seen this movie in years, but I just got major chills watching this scene again.
The cinematography for this movie is **chef's kiss** undeniably beautiful.
2:19 the board has been swapped to a downhill board with no kicks
2:34 the board magically grows kicktails
stunt double board
haha i told myself the exact same thing when i watched it :)
Matt Lainio. Jajaja. Buena observación.
same here .. right before i realize that the longboarder isnt ben stiller.
VagabondisSunny Actually this is the skateboard scene he did his own stunts in. The other one with the trucks was someone else.
? what you talking about, that isnt ben stiller on the longboard (not skateboard) . i mean on the longer field view.
My child has watched this movie so many times.when ever they come home for holidays our family watch this together.
thanks for the upload mate!
they could've done a lot more with this scene but I liked it a lot
Agreed
shows that the movie reviewers are really out of touch with what people really want in a movie. I think this film is really great, it has the element of romance, excitement and how people really perceive life when it comes to their decision making. Great film and awesome cinematic overall
The critics never appreciated Van Goth just like they’ll never appreciate this gem 💎
The movie is one of my favourite films ever!
This movies definitely in my top 3
This film gave me the courage to go further. Thank you❤
I relate to this movie from being the loner shy kid sitting in the library everyday avoiding people to traveling the world and living in my favorite cities ♥️
Seriously one of my favorite movies!
The town "it's so far, so far away. It's so far, so far away" they chose the best song for that scene. Jośe gonzalez killed it!
Esta película esta llena de escenas memorables, una fotografía impecable, de mis favoritas sin duda ❤
tambien amo la fotografía, sabes actualmente donde la puedo volver a ver, le he perdido el rastro, cuando decidí verla al menos una ves por año
God what a fantastic cover, Jose Gonzalez also was on the soundtrack, I thought for a minute he had more than one track
Sitting here in Seydisfjordur right now after driving down the canyon. I am 99% sure this where this scene was filmed! What a life man!
2 things I will do in future
1. Take a motorcycle ride in Iceland while listen to Junip version
2. Horse riding in Mexico
your bucket list has nothing to do with this video tbh
@@McklMrtz It does to me, bitch!
@@McklMrtzIf you have
I understood the horse thing.
Serious question: If you're going downhill on a longboard like this, how do you stop if you need to? It always looked like fun but I simply cannot ride anything I don't know how to stop.
There are brakes now...
@@lordgoro : Really? Neat. How do they work?
Bucketlist! I live in Sweden but i need some peace and harmony so i'm going till build up an economy and then i'm going too Iceland too live there for the rest of my life. Thank u Walter Mitty for the heads up. This movie really had an impact om me and will change my life. The song is from Sweden btw and it's really a good tune. I have abused drugs for i long time and i'm really tired of it and this country will definitly make me sober and high on life
I always thought of Sweden as a place to go to get some peace and harmony... Really I think it's perspective, moving somewhere nice won't change you, change yourself then move so you can enjoy the beautiful country to its fullest extent
Bro... how's your life now ?
@@konan8353 You said it correct bro 💯
That moment when somone with that amazing skill of matching the most perfect piece of music to the right footage and it Jst gets you.
Great film..
Last week I spent time in the mountains. No lie to say this movie is part what inspires me to do things like that.
I start skating because of this scene, it's so freaking good to watch.
Whenever critics are aggressively harsh on a movie, most likely its the best movie
just finished it, absolutely adored this scene. recreating this is on my bucket list now
