Another week, another new car - but this time it’s something you’d never expect - a Mercedes S600 Maybach!
This uber-luxury top-of-the-range monster limo was too good a deal to turn down, and now it’s TheCarGuys’ new daily driver and long-distance cruiser.
How on earth did we end up with a Mayback? What gadgets does it have? Is it fast? How much room is in the back? Does it really have a fridge in the back? What’s it like to drive? All these questions and more will be answered in this week’s episode.

angela1984a agriculture (farm animals farting), freighting and shipping are far more serious contributors to global atmospheric CO2 issues. Not cars! In fact, the worst culprits are the airlines. Not only do they burn fuels in our upper atmosphere, which is more fragile and responsible for faster degradation of our ozone layer. But with increased economic growth and development in Asia, especially China and India, there are more than an extra 5 million millionaires all travelling by air every week. In fact, there are more commercial aircraft flying at any one time than there are airports to land them all. The airline industry works on a constant juggling act of air space and landing space. Lastly, at least the automotive industry has developed low emissions engines, catalytic exhaust systems or hybrid and full EV technology to reduce CO2 emissions. What have the Agriculture, Freighting & Shipping and Airline industries done? Sweet FA! Maybe it’s time you redirected your eco-warrior attacks on the real industrial delinquents. Cars really aren’t the problem. Cars are just an easy target for politicians, the media and gullible people like you, who are easily misdirected.
angela1984a AGAIN your ultimatum is not practical. If we eliminate the internal combustion engine and cars, what would you have us use for transport? Horses? Then you’re just adding to the Farm Animal Farting impact to our atmosphere (which is currently a worse impact than cars and the internal combustion engine). And you would need a lot more horses than cars to satisfy current transport demands worldwide. Then there’s grazing and stabling that would almost certainly lead to further deforestation. So less trees to create Oxygen. Targeting cars and the internal combustion engine alone is not going to reverse the atmospheric concentration of CO2. Its time you redirected your eco-warrior criticism elsewhere.

No problem. By the way you may have missed a tiny feature. It has a keyless entry boot so just wave your foot underneath (with the key in your pocket) and boom. It'll also work with a more efficient air kick inline with the centre of the boot

Braver man than me. My most over the top car was probably a jag v12 xj coupe. Two door, no pillars. 5.3 litre. Powerful, handled like a hovercraft and thirstier than a blue whale. It started overheating so i got scared and decided to sell. I bit the hand off the first caller. The phone never stopped for about the next two weeks! Doh.....
And there i thought the Pullman was the top of the range.Nice indeed.For me a 4matic SWB S560 full spec no fridge is the way to go.
Im back for the 3rd time, love this video and really really enjoy what you do and the cars you are into. All of these new supercars are the same, all auto and all pop at a set amount of revs, its boring but you guys love such an array of cars and that's why i keep on coming back.

I'll never forget a post brand withdrawal assessment of the original, modern, stand alone Maybach in the interim period before it was reintroduced by Mercedes that I read in an automotive magazine that concluded that, "The Maybach is the answer to the question that no one asked..." I thought that that was totally hilarious but I still totally love it and I'm watching CarGurus very closely for my chance to grab either one of these or an extended wheelbase Bentley Mulsanne.
Totally loved the video, it was a real treat for me personally as a lifelong automobile enthusiast...

Damian, I've got the perfect car for you - my 1 litre, 3 cylinder Ford Focus. The stop-start doesn't work. (No idea why. Just got it secondhand and it never switches the engine off, which is a bonus.)

A lovely car and can see why you have bought it. Prefer the older one and a wee bit disappointed you haven’t gone with a 57 or 62. They were individual cars not a trim level.

Beautiful car. Great Video. Mixed emotions, like you Damian, about driving or being driven in a car like this. Probably great for taking “she who must be obeyed” out for a special outing (Dinner at Anglers or the Ritz or the Savoy). Alternately, if you have a trusted driver, the Maybach would be perfect for you and Jason, in your dotage, heading off to a quiet pub in a local hamlet for an afternoon of a relaxing few ales before rapidly, but serenely, wofting home without any concerns about the “ole bill”. Thanks guys.

We both have the Same taste in automobiles. As a young child of 3 years and up, I always loved big boats with tons of features. I guess this is why at age 17, I WAS THE VERY PROUD OWNER of a 1973 Caddy Fleetwood with the Huge Chrome Grill add on with the Flying Goddess on top. It was my Uncles Florida car and he was buying a new down sized ‘77 Caddy and I asked him how much he was selling the Fleetwood for and I was shocked. Thank God for Expensive gas. I paid $1700 in 1977 for a $11,000 car in 1973. Only 52K miles on the odometer.

They don’t paint cars like they used to. BMWs and Fords I also notice have a lot of orange peel from factory.

I worked for Mercedes for 16 years..when they dropped the 190e and brought out the C class it all went down hill. The rounded E class that came out at roughly the same time (if my memory serves me well) was an almighty piece of rubbish. I read comments that this cars paint work is not good..it all changed around the C class launch. Mercedes-Benz started using water based paint and with mass production quality took a nose dive. Most cars that came out the docks were covered in orange peel. This Maybach was a S class in reality but they were lovely to drive. Parts for these cost a Morgage. .would dread to put disc and pads on it! Exhaust is probably about the price of a small Korean car!
Still..if I win the lottery. .I'll have two!

My w140 s500 was extremely nice paint. I ended up doing some body work and wrapping it in burgandy but the original paint was amazing.
Years ago when manufacturers started with the whole orange peel thing they said it was due to enhancing the metallic paint effect.

In my opinion a very good choice. I have to confess I'm a Mercedes man and the concept of having a Maybach on the basis of the S-Class chassis was the right decision from Mercedes. The luxury and comfort they put in these vehicles is second to none... Congratulations to your purchase! I wish you a lot of fun and hopefully no cold deformation experiences...

That's a great purchase, I once bought an old 80's XJ6 directors wife's car at book value... this had been driven by a company chauffeur and needless to say, I made good money when I sold it a few years later... I suspect your Mayback will be something similar. Happy motoring :-) ...... a highly sensible purchase.I think you need to take it on a european road trip when specing another Italian and Jason can chauffeur you... :-) ... :-) don't forget the hat!!...
I would never buy this car for to drive it because when people see you they will assume that you are the driving somebody important in the back so i would rather get the s class or a brabus version

That paint finish is pretty awful.
What a delicious acquisition - I think the long term review will need Jason or yourself to chauffeur you around so that you can fully immerse yourself in the goodies found in the rear of the car (seat), otherwise half, if not most of the real luxury, opulence and enjoyment is lost on the experience of driving around in this mahusive mobile 6* hotel/ camper van. Love it - very very nice 👍🏼

Very cool Damian. Everyone loves a billy bargain !! . All the luxury of a Bentley or a Rolls Royce on the inside, without the ostentatious exterior , a sort of semi sleeper , which I like . It must have the mother of all batteries to power up all of the linear actuators / motors and fridge inside there . Can't wait for Jason's reaction to it on camera .👍👍😆

Looks like a lovely car for long trips. Huge amount of features. I think Rolls Royce are still the one to beat in the luxury brand, but as you already have one of those, this is an interesting addition to the collection.

Congrats! for some reason, I still prefer the Maybachs the 57 and 62! the iconic rear lights were absolutely gorgeous. I think mercedes is not doing a good job for the S-class, W222 exterior design, even the Maybach looks like an enlarged S-class which looks like an enlarged C-class. W221 has more unique personality.
