This car that's 10 years old is getting sold for 70-100k. The tech inside is amazing but feels like nothing in comparison to the current gen.

I used to work for a Rental company & drive the Maybach 57S regularly. It was incredibly fast for a huge car, extremely comfortable & a head turner, it was also a nightmare to navigate around the tight narrow streets of London.

I actually saw one of these (well, probably not with the security) just casually parked in the parking lot across from my job. I walked by it thinking it was just an S-Class but then I noticed the Maybach logo on the C-pillar which prompted me to glance at the rear seats and the wheels. Definitely an inconspicuous car for those who don't know.

Inkas is a serious company. I work for an autoparts store that supplies them and they order things like filters and shocks for literally dozens of brand new cars for them to bullet proof it's insane! Dima is a very nice guy.

Actually, what Mercedes did with Maybach here is really smart. There is quite significant gap between the "normal luxury cars" (S-Class, 7 Series, etc) and the top dog of luxury, Rolls Royce.
A fully loaded S600 lwb costs around 220.000€ in Germany. A base-model Phantom starts at 450.000€..
There a lot of people that are somewhat "outgrowing" a normal S-Class but aren't up there for a Rolls Royce, yet. People that can't or don't want to spend THAT much money on a car or people that can't afford to drive one in terms of brand image. You can't roll up to any client / customer / event with a RR.
Those people didn't have a limousine to buy. Mercedes closed that gap, and they are the only ones doing it..
Exactly. The car is selling really well so the strategy is definitely working. Tbh, only Mercedes can get away with something like this. They are the only brand I can think of that can really cater to all markets and price points in the automotive industry.
@@ogepma They definately hit a sweet spot there. Low cost (it's basically a S-Class) with high profits. And it's true: only Mercedes can pull that one of.
Nobody would buy a 300k BMW, Audi or Lexus limousine, no matter how good it is.
However, Mercedes isn't really up there in the top-luxury segment with Bentley and Rolls Royce, as the last Maybach-attempt proved, but I don't think that that's a bad thing, tbh.

In the old 62s you could pull out the leg rests without having to push the front seat forward so both passengers could get it. And you could get privacy glass to separate you from the driver. That’s cool

You have both in the S class. My SL has soft close doors and the most solid sounding door close sound. Soft close doors have a cool whirring noise too!

The point is its crooked, people would be upset with a crooked plate on a $20,000 Hyundai, its completely unacceptable on a $400,000 car. I would think you could have it fixed without spending $5000 on a new bumper skin. But clearly isn't a concern to the dealer or whoever completely failed at mounting it.

I love the ridiculous amount of opulence on the outside and that inside is swathed is so much luxury. Maybach has to go rich or go home and this one is somewhere you want to be on a very long journey

I had the chance to observe close one of these at the port of Varna last week. At a slight distant look it looks special and massive. Take a closer look,and you will find that it's just a pimped up,chrome-dome S class,and nothing much special,the way precious Maybach was. Mercedes found a way to re badge regular S class,add it few options and dip few details in chrome,asking twice as much as "regular" S600. You want to feel really special,go for the Rolls Royce or Bentley.
s560 maybach, v8, is 165k us $
s650 maybach, v12, is 230k us $ (the one in the video)
s600 doesnt exist

I don't think Mercedes ever marketed this as a Maybach stand alone model. It's simply a trim level. The previous Maybach was marketed as a stand alone, and while it was miles ahead of the s-class of the time in terms of quality, it shared many obvious parts and was produced in the same plant. This time, Merc has decided on a different strategy and it's worked well for them if the sales figures are anything to go by. The last Maybach was completely trashed by RR in terms of sales and Prestige. This is better equipped that it's nearest rivals (RR Ghost and flying Spur) and also cheaper (it's 400K here because of bulletproofing).
