Another Great video there Sir. Yea we mill a lot of poplar and you talk about stress man poplar is the only wood I know that has a mind of its own. You are constantly rotating the log on most of them. Raising up don’t bother me, it will lay back down in the drying process, but kicking to the side, there trash and firewood. Thanks for share Mr.Erik take care Sir.
About your production of vids...SUPER job! I really like the voice over style you've adopted as it really makes it easier to watch and learn. BZ and Semper Fi.
Thanks Earl! I really appreciate that. It is something I sometimes struggle with as I know standing in front of a camera might be preferred by some but I am a production sawyer so the priority is making lumber ;) I make the videos after the fact. Semper Fi!
You are the first person I have seen on TH-cam talking about how to deal with the tension. this was a great tutorial. I usually flip 180, I may have to do more experimenting with 90.
@@TheOldJarhead I'm learning a lot from your channel. I had no idea how to get the tension out of the lumber. It frustrates me. I think you gave an explanation in this video. "Horns to the right."
I'm on the road until Monday or I'd look fir which ones I talk about stress in for ya! But have been thinking of finding a real stressed log to show how to deal with cant pop! Hopefully I'll run into one soon. Thanks for watching and don't be afraid to ask questions! I am always happy to answer them all!
I used to do that but since I mill a lot of pine I don't do it often due to sticker stain. Usually the customer already has sticker material so I just try to sneak out every board I can. Thanks for the comment!
A good technique, It's nice when you have good logs and one dimension your customer is looking for. Nicely done.
Thanks 👍 Appreciate it and agree 100% Nice logs, 1 dimension and loads of help 😀
@@TheOldJarhead Off bearers who understand a little about efficiency help immensely. Looks like you had good help. Enjoyed watching.
Yes! Makes a world of difference! Thanks! Gotta go LIVE now :D Cheers

Cottonwood and Poplar both seem to be like that! Crazy stuff. Fir and Pine aren't too bad but sometimes they just don't want to play!

A lot of good info ,thanks Eric
You bet! Thanks for watching! Hope all is well?
I just subscribed for the first time, excellent video!
Hey thanks! I appreciate the sub and kudo's! Glad you found me.
That's a good idea with the flitch - milling a straight end while cutting the cant. I'm going to check out how you do it.
Thanks! I find it is just easier and faster!

Yup. Hooks to the right (or horns, that might be better!). I discuss it in a few places
@@TheOldJarhead are you coming out to the Paul Bunyan show in October? It would be cool to meet you.

When I cut my flitch boards against my can’t I will all always drop 1” increments for stickers for future use.
