I’m not sure what was more exciting, watching the great content of the video or listening to your enthusiasm. All great ingredients for a TH-cam channel.
Wow that’s very cool! I know the feeling when you have good help at the mill! Many hands make life work! And it’s such a joy to work together with a group of people.
Yup! I've worked with crews that sat around waiting for me to say something and whom never got the idea that keeping me making sawdust was less expensive than sitting on their rears but I billed by the hours so.... ;)
Thanks Bud! and running solo is hard work! Or slower work. But if you run solo you can decide how hard to work I guess :D I do at our property and then I have more time to think about what I'm doing and seem to get a lot less done lol
Excellent training video .. now if we all could only get the customer to watch and do . They ain’t never got a problem looking for a job.. thanks for sharing
I worked in a stud mill in Montana back in 1970. My first mill job. Because I was young the made me a deck hand on the barker. I didn’t know anything but with a day or two of instruction I was able to deal with what ever was coming at me. I look back fondly at those days at a $1.96 hr now.
Cool! I worked in a pulp mill up in BC back in the early 90's (I'm a little younger and was only 5 in 1970) and while I made more per hour it might not have bought more ;) I too look back on those days fondly! Love sawmills and having my own is awesome! Cheers!
I started running a Wood Mizer LT27 2003, and upgraded to a LT40HD in 2010 with an Operator Seat. That seat made all the difference in comfortable operation by eliminating the walking back and forth as well as never bumping into the Trailer Tire! I also found having the ground crew pull the boards off the tail end of the mill, two or even three at a time, makes things even faster and it's easier to keep track of where people are. If they start to move the boards when the Saw Head is all the way forward and the operator had just initiated the downward movement for the next cut, there is no chance of binding anything and the next cut can be started as soon as the Saw Head is stable.
Sometimes there are not any and then the day comes there they are! I've mill 39 logs and thought "yes! No metal" then Zing! But even a metal detector won't always find them
Hire them!!! Quick question from my fellow veteran. I’m torn between the TK 2020 and the LT 40. Mostly over the hydraulics. Do you ever have problems with the electrical portion of your hydraulics?
Thanks! I am using a rigid pancake compressor I run off my camper generator or the customers power as in this case. I use a Snap-on high pressure nozzle with it.
Was at a customer one time. There were 4 guys with him for helping. I was setting the mill then each guy of the crew opened up a beer. I stop the engine and then said: Listen, I'm not here for a party but if you want a party at 75$ an hour I'm good with that. They all put their beer away and since it was their first time with a sawmill, I gave them a lesson on how to work around the mill for fast and safe operations.
Awesome! Love it! It doesn't take much to get seriously injured around a sawmill and working around one while drinking would be a dangerous 'party'! lol Good job!
I have one I carry that I bought on amazon but at the time of this video I didn't have it -- however, my customers were always responsible for foreign objects
If your a mason and you have good hoddy look out. If your a pipe fitter and you have a good apprentice it awesome. If your a doctor you need a good nurse. Ever you work alone you learn to be efficient with your movements. Some work in fits and starts but the best are smooth and steady never wasting a movement. To work hard does not take away from you but full fills you. Mom said make yourself handy! Someone some where passed this to them!
LOL Funny thing, Ryan's help was leaving the next day to start a new career! and Ryan is retired! Can't get this kind of help these days but honestly I find the vast majority of my customers do a great job, these two were just a cut or three above the rest!

Yes it does!
I saw a lot with the customer helping. With some, they don't fully get it until 4:00 PM. Others are like these guys! A joy to work with.
Yup! I've worked with crews that sat around waiting for me to say something and whom never got the idea that keeping me making sawdust was less expensive than sitting on their rears but I billed by the hours so.... ;)
Running solo most of the time over here. Seeing this is a thing of beauty.
Thanks Bud! and running solo is hard work! Or slower work. But if you run solo you can decide how hard to work I guess :D I do at our property and then I have more time to think about what I'm doing and seem to get a lot less done lol
It's nice to work with people who know how to work.
Amen to that!!!
Hey Paul you didn’t work for DCMA in Iraq did you?
👍
Excellent training video .. now if we all could only get the customer to watch and do .

Great video, not a lot of people will work like that . Again it’s a keeper !!
Thanks! and yes! Not many are that hard charging!!
Can’t say it’s the BEST sawmill video EVER. A bit exaggerated in my opinion.

Awesome! I plan to try a seat!
Working like a well oiled machine! Good video
Thanks 👍
That is awesome, I love when I get help like that too !!
Agreed! Best crew!
now that's an efficient crew.
Yes they were! Awesome guys to work with! Thanks for watching!
That was awesome. Very entertaining. Cheers mate.
Glad you enjoyed it! Cheers!
How often are nails in logs? Would it be worth running a metal detector across them before starting?
Sometimes there are not any and then the day comes there they are! I've mill 39 logs and thought "yes! No metal" then Zing! But even a metal detector won't always find them
Your enthusiasm is contagious. Thank you for a fantastic video. LT30HDG24 custodian here. New sub from Georgia, USA.
Awesome! Thank you!
Outstanding training video!

Good help makes for fast work.

After 7 years I had worn brushes in the electric motor but that's to be expected.
@@TheOldJarhead Thank You! That’s great to hear!!
Wood-Mizer is a great company!
@@TheOldJarhead Office in Mt Vernon Missouri. 45min from me. I’ve already spoke with them👊💥👊
LT40 is a workhorse!
I never thought to measure off the frame when I can't get to the bed rails. Gonna have to use that trick.
Yup! Anywhere you can measure from will work ;) I often use the frame since it's the same front to rear and will give a good reference point.
Great video, what are you using to make the compressed air on the jobsite?
Thanks! I am using a rigid pancake compressor I run off my camper generator or the customers power as in this case. I use a Snap-on high pressure nozzle with it.
th-cam.com/video/RLyxhtFssVw/w-d-xo.html I believe I show it in this video
@@TheOldJarhead excellent idea. Saw on sir 👍
Thanks! Too many times of trying to use the 60mph method 😆 Cheers!

I’m in Post Falls bout’ an hour from there😊
I'll have to add you to my list of NW Sawyers I need to visit!
Looks like they were making you hustle as well!
LOL yup! It was great! Had to keep up with them!
Now that's a Crew. They could of been good Marines. OoooRah Semper Fi Devil Dog
Semper Fi Devil Dog! And yes, they were awesome! I've had some great crews but those guys were fantastic!
😄 Thanks again :)
Thanks for watching!
There’s a wand type metal detector at Harbor Freight for less than $50. Cutting nails gets expensive!
I have one I carry that I bought on amazon but at the time of this video I didn't have it -- however, my customers were always responsible for foreign objects
Time is money. If they are paying you by the hour then these guys are just being smart.
Agreed

hydraulics ftw!
Gotta love hydraulics! 😀
where is your metal detector , ?????????????
I usually have one handy but did not bring it that trip! However, it is the responsibility of my customers to checknlogs 😉
Well For 1 thing He's been around a mill, he has common since. That's all it takes
Thank you for your comment! It's true, having experience and common sense can go a long way in achieving success.
Don’t leave out desire! Also remember this is his wood. He wants it to be good.
Very true! Customers are usually very motivated!
Pretty expensive for you if hitting all those nails
Not really 😉 as I let my customers know they pay for it.
Do them boys need a job?
