I try to make sure logs with big taper are brought to the mill with the small end facing the operators end of the mill. Seems to help me get the most out of logs. I think it’s because I can see the taper better and get things aligned better.
Agreed. For me, since I pull up to the logs, they aren't always facing that way but then I prefer the big ends on the really big stuff, face me. SO it's a toss up, big ends the other way and hope I get past, big ends to me so I can see if I can get past...small ends near me (preferred on anything under 32 inches) is preferred though.

You met the objectives. mission accomplished.
Badly tapered logs are a real pain sometimes. One miscut and you can ruin a cant. Good job!
Yup! That's why I was cutting the flitches so thin. The were 3/4" but he didn't want them, just the 1x
Great pointers Eric
Thanks! How's the sawing? Too hot for me here at the moment! Yuk!

Good video, Erik. It's VERY difficult to squeeze out lumber from a log that's JUST large enough.
Good job.
Thanks 👍
Great video! We have logs that are tapered, this is good to know.
Glad it was helpful!
Man. You blew past 1000!
Yup! Tons of content helped I think!

Thanks!
Pretty much every log I mill is tapered , toe board rollers worth every penny
Ahhh! I mill a fair amount but have a lot of big stuff too
I would say too much taper to be viable. Cut the log shorter.
I definitely advise that too but sometimes the customer wants longer lumber and the log is like this and then I just mill it
