Because I just got the supaboy sfc for Christmas and that made that version freeze so I was going to return it and get this one. Was given an SFC model for Christmas, worked for about 30 minutes until the screen just died. Don't repair, can only refund, replacement part expensive and would take way too long to ship. Real bummer.
I think it looks great in the Black and Gold. I've got one ordered and honestly looking forward to it. Seems like the best portable SNES no questions asked.

I have the original Supaboy and I prefer it for the 4:3 screen. It feels more like the nintendo version of the sega nomad. It sits right next to it on my shelf and is era appropriate. Works on every game and flash cart I've tried.
I have the SFC version and they are great the best compatibility of any hardware for Snes but also works with third party adaptors. You use super game boy one and two, also can play genesis/Megadrive, master system and famicom as well through cartridge adaptors. :) the screen also on these unlike the first model can be set to play in 4:3 aspect ratio for pixel perfect. Two minor negatives, the screen could be better especially with chinese emulation handhelds getting better screens. The sound is also low but there is very easy fixes for that with tiny modding.
yeah right? it's like lol... it's looking worse then a neo geo mini. At least with the awful quality composite screen output you can do hdmi output. I own the super boy s also, and not a fan of lack of hdmi output.

I've seen the display on the SupaBoy Black gold, and I thought it was awful. Sources I've read said it's LCD. However, the SupaBoy S and SFC models, the box says they are LED. Can anyone vouch if the displays on the older models are nicer than the Black gold? Also, are the older units reliable? Are they ok to buy used? I'm concerned since Hyperkin doesn't sell repair parts, and the Black Gold has a 1 year warranty.
I got one, the cartridge slot feels too tight, and the screen is disappointing, but it's neat and wasn't sold out like everything else I wanted the past year.
I did purchase one of these in the past. Then I exchanged it for the Retro-Bit RDP Portable, because the Hyperkin SupaBoy was death gripping my cartridges. Well, at least the one I had did.
I love Retro-Bit but have never tried their handheld. Maybe I have to grab one finally. To Hyperkin's credit they started making a new cart connector for all their consoles about a year or so ago... the supposed "pin-perfect patent pending technology" LOL, but I have had no real complaints with the cart connector pins since that change.

The SupaBoy does have a larger screen than the RDP and looks better in design in my opinion. Here are a few things to consider about retro-bit's RDP that are better than the SupaBoy: 1. Does not death grip your carts. 2. Works with these three game cart adapters while being able to view the game play on the screen of the portable without the need of using the TV out. Super Retro Advance, Retrogen, and Retroport. In other words, the portable screen of the RDP will also display your GBA, , NES and GENESIS carts with the use of the cartridge adapters also made by reto-bit. This method will not work with the SupaBoy or any other portable SNES with a cart slot, you will have to use the TV out on the adapters to display game play.
I've always been interested but never pulled the trigger on one. I do like the color scheme. Hopefully the next platinum version or diamond version or whatever name they come up with has hdmi and better audio. I'll reasonably pay whatever so as long it's good quality.

Lol, relatable on the 8bitdoo/dough nonsense. Love the products, (one of the only 3rd parties that can sometimes fool my hands into thinking it's official hardware) but the name is just bad. One would think it would be pronounced _dough_, to sound like Nintendo, or be the Japanese "do" meaning "the way of 8bit"...but apparently if you call their hotline their own staff says "8bitdoo". Not "correcting" you either, just venting about stupid names. PS. "Supaboy" is also a terrible name for anything.
WIsh it had better screen view like ips. Has to have hdmi out. A little bit slimmer would be nice. Then last that the game cartridge would piggy back on the back side & not stick out so much.
hyperkin supaboy or the Retro-Bit RDP? both do everdrives right but the retro does nes also but it's like a tower. Im waiting for analogue pocket thou. see what the curators bring with the open source fpga.
Ill give a fair warning for anyone interested in this product. I don't own this version of the system so these might have been fixed up by now, but I've owned the original Supa Boy for a few years now. While the product works fairly good and has never really given me any problems playing a cart (outside of Dragon Ball Z Hyper Dimension, which is a 50/50 chance to boot up lol) , its *major* flaw imo and the soul reason I hardly ever use it now, is its absolutely abysmal D-pad. Its insanely stiff, rigid and actually sinks in the middle when pressed down. This means sometimes it will randomly register a direction in response to your press, and I can assure you that means this will happen a LOT. If you plan on getting this for its portable use then I'd really second guess it, or at the very least find out if this D-pad issue has been fixed. Otherwise, its pretty great for what it is imo. Edit: I feel I should also mention with the original unit (of which I've tried 3) the first port for the controller would not register my 3rd party Super Famicom controllers (The Performance Super Pad). The unit did however work with a Standard official SNES controller. Not sure if that'd still be the case but I thought I'd mention it none the less.

Though I like to try one, the $140 price tag kinda turn me down. Also not all games will work properly on this thing, Super Ghouls n Ghosts may still glitch when playing on this device.
I tried the 8bitdo SN30 and after 6 hours of gaming with the Supaboy the reciever got broken, it dont anymore as well on original SNES. The 8bitdo controller stills works but the reciever wont recognize anymore any compatible controller.

I've just received my Black Gold Supaboy and I really like it. Yeah it's only composite but it looks good enough and it sounds good and has good compatibility from what I've tried. For people interested in the RDP I'd have to overall not recommend it. No PAL support and the built in speaker is absolutely terrible. The NES adapter is a cool idea but too bulky and it has pretty bad compatibility and sound. Overall in my opinion the Supaboy Black Gold is the best way to play your SNES carts on the go.
I've been wanting to get a Supaboy so I gotta ask: Is there a difference between this Black & Gold version and the SFC? or the only difference is the color?
@@Madlittlepixel I know that this Black & Gold is the latest version....and that both B&G and SFC have the 4:3/16:9 switch...so I just wanted to know if there was any type of improvement like, for example: I know that when using a SFC, if you use a gba or Sega game adapter, you can only play it if its connected to the TV, because the image wont show up on the SFC screen....or maybe, that white wireless controller doesnt work in the SFC, which does work on B&G (after seeing this video, now I want to get a wireless controller if when I buy the supaboy). But if things like that haven't change on this new B&G...then paying more money just because is black wont make any sense.

LOL, I have only ever had one handheld that exploded, not in my hands mind you, but the Neo Geo X handheld. The battery blew up inside the unit lol.

AV out is good for taking this in the van I know because I have 2 tv screens in the family van.
Maybe the signal is composite to reduce input lag. The same with the TN panel, What do You think?

I've owned my RDP 2.0 since 2013 - definitely prefer it over any Supaboy. Avoid if you have PAL games though.

Though I like to try one, the $140 price tag kinda turn me down. Also not all games will work properly on this thing, Super Ghouls n Ghosts may still glitch when playing on this device.

I tried the 8bitdo SN30 and after 6 hours of gaming with the Supaboy the reciever got broken, it dont anymore as well on original SNES. The 8bitdo controller stills works but the reciever wont recognize anymore any compatible controller.
Does it have video out to connect to the tv ?

No software emulation. Its a hardware clone. Accuracy is good in my opinion when it comes to color pallette etc. Latency feels fine to me.

I've just received my Black Gold Supaboy and I really like it. Yeah it's only composite but it looks good enough and it sounds good and has good compatibility from what I've tried.
For people interested in the RDP I'd have to overall not recommend it. No PAL support and the built in speaker is absolutely terrible. The NES adapter is a cool idea but too bulky and it has pretty bad compatibility and sound.
Overall in my opinion the Supaboy Black Gold is the best way to play your SNES carts on the go.
So, is it an ordinary supaboy just changes the color?

Is there a difference between this Black & Gold version and the SFC? or the only difference is the color?
Just check whichever version you get has the 4:3/16:9 aspect ratio switch. Any of them with that is the latest model just in whatever color.
@@Madlittlepixel I know that this Black & Gold is the latest version....and that both B&G and SFC have the 4:3/16:9 switch...so I just wanted to know if there was any type of improvement like, for example: I know that when using a SFC, if you use a gba or Sega game adapter, you can only play it if its connected to the TV, because the image wont show up on the SFC screen....or maybe, that white wireless controller doesnt work in the SFC, which does work on B&G (after seeing this video, now I want to get a wireless controller if when I buy the supaboy). But if things like that haven't change on this new B&G...then paying more money just because is black wont make any sense.
