    I learned how to drive in a 1968 CJ5. I laugh when people say the new Jeeps are noisy, have a bad ride, lack power, etc., you guys should drive a Jeep from that era!! Its a unique vehicle for sure but that's what makes us love them so much.

    I bought my 2016 jeep wrangler sport new have not had any problems, when I bought it knew I was buying a jeep.its not a luxury vehicle if thats what you want, don't bother. I love it! Wouldn't change it😊

    You don't buy a Jeep for good gaz mileage, a silent ride or comfort, if you do, you are missing the point (and you didn't do your research). You get one for the experience, the feeling of freedom. Nothing beats having no top, no doors on a sunny day, nothing.
    First of all, a stock JLU (Altitude Sport) with the stock 255/70R18 tires you can get about 10.5L/100 km, that's not bad at all (that's what I had before replacing the tires). The tires that come with it are low friction tires and it shows. I wanted a more agressif look and replace them with the same size tires but got some BF TA/K02. Yes, now I get 13L/100km but I'm all good with that. If you go up to 35's or 37's, well, it's going to show, more rubber on the road and more weight, it's simple math.
    Interior wise, I have a 2023 and I really like it. Yes, you don't have the interior of a BMW or a Lexus, but can you remove the doors and the top on the X5 ? Nope, it's a win for the Jeep in my book. Ho, and yes, it's a noisy ride but just buy yours with the Alpine sound system, problem solved ;-)
    Like I said, do your homework, this Vehicule isn't for everyone, but I wouldn't change it, I just love this ride. Worth every caveat imo.

    Jeeps are not for everyone. It’s a Jeep thing. We know it’s a brick we know it doesn’t have good gas mileage we know it’s a tent on wheels. And we don’t care.

    I own four jeeps, a 06’ TJ Rubicon a 11’ JKU Sport a 13’ JKU Sierra and a 16’ JKU Rubicon. The 06’ and 16’ are on 37s the 11’ and 13’ on 35s. All re-geared all lifted and a boatload of aftermarket goodies. Not one of these I bought for gas mileage, comfort, or a Cadillac ride, but because they have character and personality and an awesome story behind their existence. Most of your pros and cons are accurate. Just not sure if it matters to the real jeep enthusiast. We go into it well aware of those issues but if you’re mechanically inclined and with a strong aftermarket parts industry, you can keep these things running forever, and most of us find it fun doing just that, it’s part of the culture. The newer jeeps have more electronics and become more problematic for the Shadetree mechanic to maintain and recently I’ve met a lot of jeep owners who don’t even have a toolbox, and have no interest in working on anything they drive, which is win-win for me and the rest of us looking for a lightly used less pricey jeep to modify :-).

    THE MOST FUN vehicles to me are Jeep Wrangler JKs. It's the perfect combination of rugged and tech. I love mine. I'm not trying to convince you that I wouldn't take a 2024 Rubicon, but I still smile everytime I get behind the wheel of my 2016 JKU Sport on 35s with a 3" lift and a hardtop. That's happiness for me.
    Good video with great points. 👍

  • @t.t.6398
    @t.t.6398 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The only bad points I can agree with are security and road noise, but beyond that, gas mileage, when compared to the V8 cars I've owned, is actually pretty good. And come on, you can't hold your mods against the Jeep! You lifted it and put on those big tires, so you wrecked its gas mileage, power, and handling, which, of course, isn't sports car like to begin with but than you bought a Jeep, not a sports car.

    • @thesuttongarage
      @thesuttongarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's also why I said "smiles per gallon". If you see my other cars on this channel...they follow the same thing. You also can't compare the Jeep to V8 cars. Hell...not even most V6 trucks.

      I look at fuel economy and fuel tank size in the context of driving range. I live in the Western USA. And sometimes when I travel, fuel is not available at all hours. My 2023 JLU gets as much as 28mpg. The 8-speed transmission really helps in that. The JKU is not as aerodynamic as my 2020 Dodge Durango G/T AWD. But with the same engine, gets similar fuel economy. While I bought the JLU as an adventure vehicle to tow behind our camper. It may be used on it's own for trips.

    I imagine if you're going to steal something from a jeep that has a soft top you're not going to think about the Zipper you're going to cut it open. I think that's a problem with any soft top car.

  • @jameseroh6544
    @jameseroh6544 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Last month I bought a '23 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport S Altitude. The fuel economy is comparable to my '20 Dodge Durango G/T AWD. The $50k sticker price did include a hard top, a/c, satellite radio, and several other upgrades.
    I bought the Wrangler to tow behind our truck and camper. That way we can keep the camp setup, and still explore around the area. All our current vehicles are 4wd. And sometimes the roads get icy. I do plan on installing Wavetrack differentials front and rear. Any gear change will depend on any lift and tire size increase.

    I've had three Jeeps. Every time I trade mine in, I regret it and get a new one about 8 years later. Went from my Jeep 2-day Willys to a Kia Soul. Loved my Soul in many ways. It's sporty (I have the turbo), great acceleration, handles great, awesome safety features, except the low clearance of cars means I'm always scrapping up the ties, bumper, etc. I'm looking to lease a new Jeep (since I always tend to get a new car every 3 years) to get back to that jalopy feel again, negatives and all.

    Hmmm lets see, Rough Ride, Streamline as a Brick, a Noisy Ride, and aftermarket Bigger Tires make less miles/gallon, Those are all Pluses +'s for me. However, you hit the Bullseye on the Price Increase for the new jeeps. A new Stock Jeep with a Hemi engine $88,000. That high price is a shocker for a Jeep; Painful. This price for new just caused all of our old Jeeps to increase in price greatly. You stated it perfectly. Carry On Sir.

    If you don’t have the funds to keep a Jeep running, walk away. You’re not buying a Jeep for quality and reliability. You’re buying it to have fun(when it’s running) and the feeling of belonging.

    • @newsstudio360
      @newsstudio360 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very true. And Jeeps are umpteen times more reliable than Series Land Rovers, but you multiply Jeep camaraderie by 10 and you get series Land Rovers and Defender (the real Defender, not the Discovery 6 joke they're trying to make you believe is a Defender) camaraderie, waving at one another going down the road in any part of the world!
      And with Jeeps it's more of a competition, with Landys it's a camaraderie.

    My 2018 jeep with 60k miles got totaled, I had about 2k on upgrades. I still got 36k from the insurance so it only depreciated about 14k in all those years...now buying a Gladuator Mojave. That's going to be the wife's vehicle. I drive a 2023 F150 Lariat. I'm sure that one will depreciate a lot more.
    I paid 52kfir the jeep at the time and added the altitude tires from a friend's Gladiator before they were available for the jeep, he sold my wife those tires and wheels for $700, plus gave her a hood cover. I added running boards as well a sub, and the hothead headliner, when it got totaled I removed the sub and cross over, but left everything else, insurance counted everything when quoting payment, I'm sad that jeep is gone, but luckily we were not at fault ( the other person ran a red light), and no one got hurt. So yes upgrades do count if you have the right insurance.

    I have the 2 liter turbo in my Cherokee and jlu rubicon and it plenty quick. Both of them at different times had over 600 lbs of constant weight on them and i have 0 issue keeping 80 or 85 going up the mtns on i70 in denver on 35s . The v6 sucks but the turbo does not. You don't need the 392. Also you went from a jk ti a 2024 jl. The regular jl wranglers are a lot more modern than you are portraying them to be. The 8 speed transmission is a massive improvement over the 5 speed auto.

    It is different because it originated as a military vehicle. That's why none of the others could "latch on" to that community feeling provided by a Jeep. Even after they bastardized them in '07 by adding two more doors, they still have the same basic shape as they originally did, and in most cases, only real Jeep enthusiasts can tell you the difference.

    Many years ago, the vehicle I longed for was a Jeep Wrangler even though I never drove or even was a passenger in one, I just liked the look of them , Finally one day I decided to take one for a test drive thinking I was going to buy it , the one I took out for a drive had a V-6 with a automatic trans and soft top , I had great expectations as I pulled on the road but was quickly disappointed by the lack of power, another thing was the inside of it was loud as all the engine and drive train noise echoed from the floor that had little sound deadening material, the top also was noisy as the vinyl roof made a bit of flapping sound when the wind hit it, while on the highway I tried some accident avoidance maneuvers and didn't like the body roll and vague steering which I thought was dangerous , The ride was harsh like riding in a covered wagon from the stiff suspension and short wheel base and the seat was uncomfortable, The salesman was talking up the vehicle as I continued driving, but I was tuning him out thinking to myself , god this thing sucks! and hated it, After getting back to the dealer lot , I looked at a few used ones there only a few years old and all of them had rust starting on the frame or on the body, then I looked at the one I just took out for a drive at the sticker price and thought of what a rip off these things are, a pop rivet body that rusts and crappy ride qualities all for a ridiculous price , This would make a poor choice as your primary vehicle and they are too expensive to beat up taking them off roading,

    I agree with most of the negatives. Personally I’d like less tech in my Jeep, I think it rides fine, and my mpg is expected. I’d put the wave, the ducks, and the quasi cult behavior on the negative list. Parts availability, value, and being “the best tool for the job” is why I purchased any of my Jeeps. At the end of the day it gets me from point A to point B in any condition and if it can’t or conditions change I can make it work.

    Outstanding Jeep review, and pretty much for the most part unbiased explaining both faults and pluses of the brand honestly.
    Only one thing I don't completely agree because of the time frame. I'm a new 6g Ford Bronco owner (23 WildTrak) and with only about 3 years in existence I agree there Isn't quite as large a community for the Bronco as there is for the Jeep...for now. Currently we have Bronco Nation, Bronco off-road Rodeo, Bronco Super Celebration east & west, Broncos on the Bay, etc. We're getting there and pretty quick to. Ford has future plans to broaden the Ford Bronco nameplate to even more exposure. I hear a lot of Wrangler & Rubicon owners are trading in their rides for the 6g Bronco.
    Hopefully with the added (serious) competition, It will make Jeep a better vehicle.

      My 2021 Honda Passport has the same gas mileage as my 2018 JL. JL is not that bad, I get about 20 mpg average on it.

    I’m really struggling on the Wrangler topic. I’ve found a new 2024 Rubicon with the basic options I’d like for $59,700 (dealer discount). Took it for a drive and even all the weird quirky stuff about the ride was fun. However, it’s so hard to justify the cost overall for something that essentially is a toy. I can afford it in the sense that the payments are doable, but even with 10k down and 72 months the payments are close to $1,000 a month??? I could buy a summer home for about that amount or even a rental property. Additionally, any good off roading spots are a few hours from my home and that 2.0T requires premium fuel??? Again, I feel like a fool but I still really want one even knowing that nothing about buying one makes sense for my situation. Finally, I can’t live with the idea of just buying a basic Jeep. Found a Willys that isn’t too bad for $50k, but at that point I probably would rather just spend the extra 10k and not have any regrets about why I didn’t go all out.

    I had to replace the 3.6 for oil consumption issues. Which Chrysler has a service bulletin calling it “normal oil consumption.” Look it up. It’s ludicrous. No vehicle should consume 1 qt every 150 miles. 🥸
