I work with a company that has a pepsi contract for fountain drinks. we knew well in advance that starry was replacing sierra mist AND that it was a new recipe. It is in fact a different drink with a different recipe, and is not just a rebrand. It is accurate that the reason for reworking the recipe and brand was to get closer to a Sprite product.
There's something so absurdly annoying to me about content creators that just straight up lie and try and pass it off is real. I think it's because growing up I watched a lot of Mcjuggernuggets who made those psycho dad videos that always used to feel viral back in the day. He played it as completely real, he constantly said that it was not fake and that it was all real, and when you're like nine or 10 and you see this kind of stuff you feel bad. And the fact that he knew most of his fans were children that thought it was real, and he had a PO box and donations I think was absurdly scummy. It took him years to admit that it was fake, and then he pretended that it was just like an ARG the whole time. I remember very specifically figuring out it was fake one day, I made a TH-cam video on it, I got like 20,000 views in a day, and just so many like threats and mean comments from other children defending him, I just feel like unnecessarily lying on the internet and trying to pass it off is true is so icky.

i never thought this story would become relevent but here it is! my Nonno was a doctor and his initials are J.A.G which he had custom stamped on all his stantionary and stamps and everything in his office. the show J.A.G did actually try to sue him for copy right infringement and he had to go to court but essentially the judge said that it was his name, and hes a doctor so hes not infringing on anything bc he has nothing to do with TV and such. he won and got to keep his initials on things. no major drama like intimidation or buying trademarks or silly stuff like that

It is in fact a different drink with a different recipe, and is not just a rebrand. It is accurate that the reason for reworking the recipe and brand was to get closer to a Sprite product.

There's something so absurdly annoying to me about content creators that just straight up lie and try and pass it off is real. I think it's because growing up I watched a lot of Mcjuggernuggets who made those psycho dad videos that always used to feel viral back in the day. He played it as completely real, he constantly said that it was not fake and that it was all real, and when you're like nine or 10 and you see this kind of stuff you feel bad. And the fact that he knew most of his fans were children that thought it was real, and he had a PO box and donations I think was absurdly scummy. It took him years to admit that it was fake, and then he pretended that it was just like an ARG the whole time. I remember very specifically figuring out it was fake one day, I made a TH-cam video on it, I got like 20,000 views in a day, and just so many like threats and mean comments from other children defending him, I just feel like unnecessarily lying on the internet and trying to pass it off is true is so icky.
