“I want to motivate and inspire others to follow their dreams…corny? Well, maybe but it’s true. So what’s motivating me?? I had a huge tumour removed summer 2016. However, despite not being able to walk for a few weeks, and feeling generally awful…. It has made me create and do what I love! It wasn’t an easy time but I won’t let fear dictate my life. I didn’t think ‘why me’, there are plenty of horrific issues people have to deal with…it’s not always smooth sailing. It’s true when you hear, ‘Life is short’, the crazy thing is, I am glad it happened…I appreciate life even more and try to practice gratitude everyday…It’s so easy to get caught up with the little things…and I do sometimes, but look at the bigger picture, will it matter in a year or two…we are all specks of dust…Also, thank you for all your support. It means a lot. I have suffered from anxiety from the past and self-confidence, (yeah hard to see now right) didn’t think I was ‘good, or worthy enough’ but I feel I have a new lease of life, don’t really care as much and want to show you guys what I have! : ) You are all awesome and without you, there would be no channel.

@@spin555 He is singing a LOT in the latest albums, but it's more support and background. You have to listen for him. I love when he does more of the primary singing, but he added a depth on EFMB that I haven't heard much in some of their songs. Troy too.
Marco is amazing and I agree I think it's so cool that she picked up on him as well. I love his vocals and he does so much for the metal community as well as a guest singer...when the "who is the greatest Nightwish singer" fiasco starts I always pick him!

Agreed. So agreed. Floor is good, but the songs weren’t written for her, and it shows. Listening to wishmaster or Nemo, or i wish i had an angel now is like listening to nightwish play covers of themself.

@@SamA-cw3be I agree with this. Someone told me to watch the new singer and posted me their clip but I felt it was mere robotic singing. A lovely voice but no feelings or emotions were felt. It never gave me the chills. I am not into metal as much either but this may be the best live performance I've ever seen, from her looks and from what she was wearing to their voices melting together as one, beauty and the beast.
There's nothing like experiencing Tarjas voice for the first time.

Exactly. This kind of scenic conversation of two figures is called "beauty and the beast". Definitely it is one of, or maybe the most impressive method of musical expression, thus it is expectedly widely used.

@Smelly Kumar So what you are saying is that you prefer a Scandinavian accent, and the one Tarja has (a Finnish = not Scandinavian one) is not as good? NORDIC might be the term you are looking for, though Finnish is different from the other Nordic countries, especially the Scandinavian parts.

I still get goosebumps from this performance, after all these years and after seeing it countless times. For Rebecca: Marco is actually an established singer, he's been singing with his own band Tarot since the 80's.

I absolutely love Marco's evil phantom. His voice is amazing and he sang as high as Tarja.
Not quite as high, but for a male that is still insane. He hit a G5, Tarja did a D6 and still probably had more in her, but they had to of course accommodate Marco and pick a note that fits both singers and the song

That smile when you first heard her sing says it all. There is much debate over who is the better lead singer of Nightwish between Tarja and Floor, but it seems a fairly pointless debate as they are both amazing. And Marco is always great (and entertaining.) I'm glad you enjoyed this one as I was lucky enough to see them on that tour. Someone once told me a Nightwish song is not something you just listen to, it is a full on emotional experience. I get the feeling you are beginning to discover this.....
Now you need to react to some Within Temptation and Lacuna Coil, both amazing bands.

She had another effect on people too, getting on others nerves with diva behavior..No hate for her though i still listen to older songs most of the time. Also i think her husband is more to blame that she got kicked out of Nightwish.

TerranigmaQuintet this is like Maria Callas and Renata Tebaldi. Floor it’s like Callas, sing everything no Mafer how, and Tarja as Tebaldi, singing always in a proper way to keep her voice always. AND OF COURSE THIS BOTH WONDERFUL SINGERS ARE GOOD FRIENDS who keep in touch by phone or text!

@@Thorneblade Indeed, Theater of Tragedy pioneered the "beauty and the beast" metal singing. Notable bands are Trees of Eternity, Epica, Draconian and Sirenia.
Tarja is Finnish, and when she speaks her accent is on the thicker side, so that likely explains some of her vowel shaping in comparison to native English speakers. She’s also a classically trained operatic singer with a three octave range.
You know, heavy music gets vilified all the time, it’s so nice to see people appreciating the talent, hard work and passion these musicians put into their work, without judgements, for once.
I highly recommend some of Floor’s work with After Forever, Simone Simons and Epica as well. That’s on the symphonic metal styles with female operatic vocals. Also, check out some of the work Brittney Hayes has done with Unleash the Archers on a more “regular” metal vocal style.
Do not forget Dianne van Giersbergen era Xandria. Dianne is on par with Simone, Tarja, and Floor vocal and stage performance wise.
She recently did Floor with Epica. “Sancta Terra”
"heavy music gets vilified all the time" WIch is ironic when you realise just how heavy some Baroque and classical era composers tracks actually are, i mean Bethooven?, Bach?, Malher etc, and while Vivalidi's isn't really "Heavy" its still Lit as fuck!, there a good fucking reason why classical tracks work so well with Metal covers, have anyone ever seen Tina S "Vivaldi's goes metal" vid? its freakin insane!!!

Shes now 46. Look back to the early days and you'd see how darn gorgeous she was 20+ years ago. They founded Nightwish together with a 3rd member in 96. She is a solo act now. That Marco can even as a scream match notes with Tarja ( to a point) is shocking. Hell of a range to match a diva with 3 octave range

@@Hailz12211 Tarja does have a husband but not any of Nightwish. Actually there was a huge row after this because they gave her a letter to open after this concert, in effect sacking her. If you look it up, there was a press conference response from her - people took sides ( the new singer was pretty awful compared and the next song called Bye Bye Beautiful likely didn't help) & were arguing about it for years. Still do sometimes.

Phantom of the Opera is such a perfect song for this band that you'd think Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote it with them in mind. Their voices blend extremely well with each other, which isn't that easy to achieve for any duet.
Also, quite frankly I think he's the best Phantom I've ever heard. His raspiness contrasts the soprano Christine like no other before him.
Lastly let's not forget the overall amazing work they did in arranging the song and bringing their sound into the mix. Fantastic cover altogether.

The keyboardist, Tuomas, was in love with Tarja for a long time. Since he also wrote most of the lyrics, he expressed his feelings (love, jealousy, heartbreak) for Tarja through a lot of their songs on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th albums. It seemed like Tarja never acknowledged or knew the songs to be about her. She dated a guy outside of the band around the 4th album and married that guy before the 5th album. There are lyrics on the 4th and 5th albums with some intense hatred potentially directed toward that guy and sadness towards not being with Tarja. Tarja was fired from Nightwish shortly after the concert that is featured in this video; most likely due to Tuomas realizing he couldn't have her and he didn't want to be around her and her husband (who became her manager). On their 6th album with a new vocalist, there's a song called Bye Bye Beautiful with lyrics: "Did you ever read what I wrote you? Did you ever listen to what we played?"

Yeah Tuomas has never admitted in interviews that the songs are about Tarja, I don't think; but it's hard not to draw that conclusion with the lyrics he was writing and what was happening in Tarja's life at the exact same time. It either makes the albums more emotional if you sympathize with Tuomas's longing for love or really uncomfortable if you feel Tuomas was acting creepy.
@@alicereal437 Tuomas being in love with Tarja is PURE speculation, and nothing more. Fans filling in the dramatic blanks in their working relationship, which had been shaky for a LONG time because Tarja had been threatening to leave since the Century Child days.

This show was an ocean of emotion... the chemistry of the band... the emotion of each person... the knowledge that it was the last time they'd perform together...
Except Tarja didn’t know until afterwards that she was getting fired. The band’s emotions was basically what you feel when giving someone the middle finger.

One must know that Marco lost his whole falset register after a throat surgery in the 90ies. He worked hard to get his voice back. They cut a nerve inside his throat, so that his cords were kind of paralyzed.
Makes him even more of a beast.

@@alexojeda9048 probably to remove the amygdala or to remove polyps or cysts in the throat or vocal cords. Some singers damage their throats to a point they develop polyps and other things that should not be there and have to undergo surgery to fix. If done correctly nothing should change, if the surgeon makes a mistake or something goes slightly not so right the vocal chords may be damaged and loose their previous "power" just as it can get "more powerful". Vocal chords surgery is a very complex and delicate things
@@noone9177 It's what happened to me during a surgery when I was a child : surgeon made a mistake and broke one of my vocal cords, so I lost a big part of my voice. I did a surgery years ago to gain more power but I have to do it again :/
Knowing this about Marco, his work of voices si appreciate much more, that speaks of his Quality as an artist

Was it? Didnt know that....but ye sad thing things fell apart with them. I recently saw interview with Tarja and it seems like she and the band (or atleast with Tuomas) they never came to speaking terms again and she didnt seem to really believe that they could ever be in speaking terms again.
Balnazzardi that concert ended in the infamous open letter. There had been problems for a while. She had her own manager(also her husband) and she chose to be contractor even though she was offered equity share in the background company of the band. She had tried to solicit a solo recording deal from the UK branch of the parent company of nightwish's record label in the summer of that year etc. weirdness. Originally she wanted to do classical but the label wasn't interested so she and her manager husband pitched basically a nightwish without the rest of the band.

@@lastword9475 well ye, it was shitty way they treated her and from what I understand/remember it wasnt even so much Tarja they had problems with but her manager husband/boyfriend who was apparently interfering in the bands matters...or something like that if I remember correctly....
Either way ofc Tuomas has the right to make these decisions as the lead/founder of the band but the way they got rid of Tarja was really not the proper way to do it
@@Balnazzardi actually, her concerns were not addressed for years and Marcelo (manager) began to put her needs in stark terms..something to which Tuomas did not take kindly...he was equally as irate when their original bassist Sami asked to have some input into the songs and off the chopping block for him and wait til you find callous way they disposed of Annete and the indifference he showed to Tarja...

Floor is an incredibly powerful, versatile soprano, but Tarja has a magic that no one else can equal. Tarja's singing draws such powerful emotions from her audience.
Nice to see Marco getting his fair credit too. With all the Tarja vs Annette vs Floor debates, maybe it's Marco that's been the greatest vocal constant in Nightwish's history!
I feel the same, Floor is impressive but Tarja is just mágical.
@@RPJomsy nothing Floor can't do, it's just that the area that Nightwish lives in right now wants to bring out Floor's versatility and passion. If you can't hear an equal amount of passion and magic in Floor's voice it just means you are not quite listening the same way you are to Tarja.
They both brought to the band something that no one else could, and for that we have the Nightwish we all know and love today. I still think Anette's contribution was quite impressive, considering her limited classical training. You can't deny that as a rock singer, Anette is quite powerful in her own right.

Marco has one of the best voices in rock/metal, so so unique! Tarja might no longer be their singer but I think they've found an amazing one in Floor

What a wonderful reaction! It is so nice to see you react to the musicians as well as the singers. Nightwish has been very lucky to have had three very talented and unique, in their own right, vocalists. There are some more Nightwish songs that will hit you in the soul like this one did.The Poet and the Pendulum live at Wembley has been requested. I would like to suggest "The Islander" Marco the bassist sings the whole song with Floor backing him up. It is a lovely ballad.

I like the stance you took. Tarja and Floor (and Anette!) are VERY good vocalists. It's not really a case of "one sucks one doesn't", its just whose style your prefer more. Its important to recognize that Nightwish has never had a bad singer, because no one dropped the ball and sung like an idiot. They just all brought a different brand of amazing to the table. It helps that ALL of Nightwish is extremely competent - its the full package. Good songwriting, good musicianship, and amazing performing. I think that is what you were trying to get at. They aren't singing, they are PERFORMING.
Very true. Too bad Anette got a lot hate just because her voice didn't work that well with old fan favorites. Two albums made for her sounded good when she sang them.
I think Nightwish had good idea when they choose her to sing. Too bad they may have forgot the issue of performing old fan favorites live.
I love Floor, but Annette's Slow, Love, Slow is amazing. Floor does it nice enough, but Annette's is better. And, Scaretale is definitely her's too.
@@haleskiss Imaginaerum is certainly the point at which Tuomas finally got the hang of working with her voice and was able to work some magic with it. Now, maybe this is because its for a movie, but the album sounds way different compared to the rest of Nightwish's lineup, and I believe that is because they were finally writing for Annette.

Very well said. I personally prefer Tarja because it was her voice that really introduced me to the band, and the genre (Symphonic Metal) which has become such a huge part of my life over the years.

Personally I prefer Tarja's version, compared to Floor. Love Tarja's operatic voice.
But version with Floor & Henk Poort is the best version ever. There are dozens youtube reactions on that video and some musicians say that's the best version in history. I absolutely love it. When I later heard this version with Tarja and Marko, I somehow didn't like it...

I saw them in 2005 in Phoenix, AZ. All these years later it's still one of the standout shows of my life.

@@SiriusWolf-ux7wo Its just preferences. Floor is more versatile (that doesnt mean its better) and Tarja more focus in one thing. Both are amazing. For me thou, Nightwish IS Tarja. With Floore is still as good, but is not Nightwsih. The problem with Annette is not her quality, but again that it wasnt Nightwish, it was something else. In the end, just enjoy if you like it, and if not, dont listen but dont bitching around. ;)
I though I made it very clear that it was my opinion and I love most nightwish songs no mater who is singing but floor is my favorite I’ve followed her from after forever to revamp to the devin Townsend project and now nightwish and northward and all of her bands in between where as you probably started listening to nightwish in the beginning with tarja
I love your reaction while you don't put a filter on or showing fake feelings. You just let it out when you experience some exceptional great performance. And you absolutely right - there is no need to seek out who is the best singer in Nightwish - both Floor and Tarja are outstanding and unique.

As a long time nightwish fan I will say, I loved Tarja. Her ability to perform is exquisite and her singing is tough to beat. She is a great Opera singer. I was very saddened by Toumas choosing Annette. While I understood the decision to cut Tarja, I felt the replacement was a touch weak or maybe thin for the full sound of Nightwish. Annette is a great vocalist. I just did not feel she fit. Floor ... well, what can one say about Floor? She can do it all. The band is no longer stuck doing only operatic, or only regular, Now they can throw anything they desire. I can only hope the new 2020 album will explore Floor's true range and abilities.

you sir or lady, just took the words outta my mouth. On record i still prefer Tarja, could be nostalgia cause i know them snce 3rd/4th Grade or maybe because EFMB is weak, but live i kinda prefer Floor a lil bit more. But not calling either being bad or anything like that,
@@kuroinamida4630 EFMB in my opinion was technically weak. I think Toumas put too much emphasis on the lyrics and not creating the music to match. Therefore not using Floor to her best ability. Live we get to hear what she is capable of as she is often singing songs from before. Granted there are still a few songs I prefer Tarja on. However a lot of that could also be the quality of the bootleg recording lol. Basically it is really not possible to say who is better though. They both are among the best at what they bring to the table. But I will go on the same limb and say that I do prefer to watch Floor live over Tarja. Tarja puts on a more personal "look at me" face. Where as Floor is quick to praise the band in her bows. You will note that she will bow with her right hand out and turn it to the band. Like saying thank you but it was them. To me that humble approach speaks in the same volumes as her voice.
Really? Of cours floor is stucked, every song sounds the same. Now with decades tour theres more proof, and many sounds really weird in her vocals. She's to sweet, to lovely, everything sound live like their latest album.
Yeah I love Tarja and love her solo as well. I was shocked as a 14 y old as they kicked her out after final show in Helsinki. 2006 I went to 2 of their concerts (my first ones) and after that letter I had to recognize that I never would have that shows again. And then they have chosen Anette and I still remember the time I heard the samples of Eva and so on...and I had to cry, I was shocked. So Nightwish was over for me. I did not heard anything of their music again. And I knew After Forever and liked their way of music. As I heard shes doing all the shows after Anette was divaing around I just hoped! And yeah in November I saw my third show of Nightwish with Floor and it was amazing.
