Thanks for watching 💙 Here’s my jumpstart singing lesson on Singr for those who want to learn - appreciate you hanging with me on YT 🙏🏼 singr.tv/justin
Hello Justin Burke ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Helsinki in 2005, then together with Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tar-rya], the 1st female singer of the band, and Marco Hietala, bassist and singer. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals) - you just heard her. She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile). There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps. I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. So be prepared. lol " For an extended set of suggestion (with links), I posted 2 huge comments in the community tab in my main YT channel: www.youtube.com/@gabriel.bardac/community 🤘
Thank you for your reaction. This performance is propably closer to what Lloyd Webber was thinking when he wrote this song, compared to most other versions. The Phantom is supposed to be scary. One thing I've noticed is that the more knowledge a reactor has about singing the more she/he appreciates Marco, the bassist/vocalist. Several opera singers, for example Elizabeth Zharoff (Charismatic Voice channel), and Maggie Renee, reacted to this performance, in order to hear Tarja especially for the first time, but they were blown away by Marko's vocals.
Tarja and Marko actually just reunited recently to sing this song together for the first time in 18 years. There's a lot of great songs from that concert known as End of an Era, Tarja's final with the band. I also suggest checking out her solo career, where she has a much more eclectic catalogue. you mentioned mosh pit so i'll recommend Victim of Ritual from Woodstock. as well as Stargazers, from Buenos aires with "Tarja's solo band. It's a NW song, but the energy during that concert from the band and crowd is so rediculous.
More Nightwish please. That's just another day at the office for Nightwish haha. However, I will say, that is hands down the best rendition of Phantom of the Opera I have ever heard. I suggest Storytime live from Wacken 2013, with their third singer, Floor Jansen (this was their first singer Tarja).
Agreed! I loved Phantom of the Opera as a kid, but after becoming familiar with this cover…the original score just sounds a little empty to me! I need the metal lol
@@jormapekka5309 Opinion, sure. I prefer Floor over Tarja in some cases and Tarja in others. Different voices, so it's a wonderful thing to have two versions of most songs imho.
@@valerieblackthorn13 I wouldn't really say that. Maybe, but I was searching for a specific style of music back around 2010 and remember landing on Nightwish and heard some things from Tarja. That's not to say I don't also love Tarja - I do - but at first listen I didn't. I immediately fell in love with Floor though on first listen to her with Nightwish, years later.
Yeah. Floor can do it 150%, with Marco or Henk, but this one is the 151%. I mean like, I love Floor, but the main difference is, that Floor CAN sing opera parts, but Tarja IS an opera singer.

Hi Justin. By reacting to this video, you have summoned the Nightwish Army. Hi 👋. There are 2 Nightwish versions of "Phantom Of The Opera." The one you watched if their first & it features Tarja & Marko. The newest version features their current singer, Floor Jansen & a guest appearance by Henk Poort, who played the title roll of The Phantom for the Dutch version of the stage show. There have been 3 female singers for Nightwish. The first was Tarja. She is magnificent, with the voice of a Siren. Her replacement was Annette. She is a world-class singer & is an equal to pop stars like Taylor Swift or Lady Gaga. Currently, Floor Jansen is the lead singer. Floor is majestic, & most of the fans call her a Valkyrie. On stage, she genuinely looks & sounds like an actual Valkyrie who is just pretending to be an ordinary human. I recommend you watch the 2013 Wacken live version of Ghost Love Score.

A great reaction video from a great band. I appreciate. Nightwish is a Finnish metal band whose purpose is to play from melodic to heavy metal with a female voice. I miss Marco and Jukka, but I haven't missed Tarja for a day. Floor made me listen to Nightwish again with live performances, even though the first encounter on the radio didn't make any difference.@@RichFrye
@@RichFrye Reality is that the entire concept of the original Nightwish revolved around Tarja's vocal style and technique. Her strong classical influenced voice is what inspired Tuomas to turn what was originally planned to just be a "Folk music project" into a symphonic metal band. Tuomas says exactly this, on the end of Innocence DVD, when he recounts the story of the founding of the band. Yes, Floor is a good vocalist as well, but honestly, she's more of a rock/metal singer than anything else and really can't do justice to the Tarja era songs. And had it not been for Tarja, Nightwish would have been more like Auri.
Nightwish, Siren, Master Passion Greed, Planet hell... Those are all great songs with both Tarja and Marco. Edit. Not master passion, but it's a superb song by Marco. Tarja is also present, in the lyrics... And especially her husband :x
Master Passion great is crap, as is most of the neo-nightwish songs. The golden Era of Nightwish was ~ 1998-2005. Sure, they're still a decent band, but nothing like they were back then.
Thanks!!Nightwish is symphonic metal ban from Finland. This performance was from 2005 and singer was their first singer Tarja Turunen, not Floor Jansen:). There is newer Nightwish version 2022 singer Floor Jansen and phantom role sing by Henk Poort(original Dutch phantom). And of course check out Nightwish own songs like Storytime(Wacken 2013, Ghost love Score(Wacken 2013) or Last ride of the day(Masters of Rock 2015)
All hale the REAL TRUE QUEEN 👑 of NIGHTWISH and of ALL FEMALE SYMPHONIC METAL SINGERS!!!, the very beautiful looking and very unique voice of the enchanting TARJA!!!😀👍👍🤘
Nightwish army Connecticut battalion weighing in: I enjoyed your reaction and based on what YOU seemed to enjoy in this one, I am going to suggest you stick with Tarja and do another song from this same End of an Era concert. "I Wish I Had An Angel" But either way...yes. More.
Fabulous reaction! The look of shock on his face at what Marko achieved in that performance was very amusing to me - most reactors to this song know Tarja is good, but are usually unprepared for how good Marko is….
I recommend a Spanish singer, her name is Diana Navarro. With the song " El perdón " She is a very versatile singer singing different musical styles with a very particular voice and incredible melismas. She always transmits when she sings. Best regards and I hope you enjoy
This is the best version there is.....Tuomas wrote this for them to sing and perform with heavier style than the original and fit to NW. They also act the roles well.
Just when you think you`ve heard everything and nothing can surprise you in the noble art of music, here comes Tarja Turunen and says:" Boss, I`m gonna need you to come with me!"
Well you just met Marko! He is one of the best male vocalists alive but so underrated. He is so cool! You might hear of him by the fans as Rock Gandalf 😂
After this performance, Tarja (The female singer) was kicked from the band with an open letter. In 2017 Tarja and Marko (The male singer) performed together at a christmas show and that´s when Marko and Tarja reconnected and later in 2023 they performed the Phantom of the opera together at one of Tarja´s shows. They saw how much people loved that they´re performing together again after 18 years and Marko wanted Tarja to feature on his new song "Left on mars". An interview dropped yesterday and Marko told that they have no bad blood between them nowadays and they have talked through everything that happened almost two decades ago, and they did multiple shows together in 2023. Just lovely.
If you liked this performance you should check out "Pharoah sails to Orion" either from "wishes to Eternity" or Raumanmeren Juhannus RMJ 2003. In that songs Marco doesn't sing, in fact he wasn't even in the band yet in Wishes to Eternity. However, Tapio Wilska performs the vocals of Pharoah.
If you truly want more, they reunited some 18/19 years later this last year to perform ‘Left On Mars’ as a duet! Marko Hietala & Tarja Turunen ‘Left On Mars’ ✅ it out!
Hi there, thanks very much for checking out Nightwish. If you try a couple more of their performances you will find that they're an incredibly versatile band. Not all of their songs are scary :) If you want a song to really be able to dive into and enjoy vocal diversily and excellent singing, then I can highly recommend "Ghost Love Score" performed live at Wacken 2013. This features their latest singer Floor Jansen. Kind Regards, from the UK.
''The Siren'' (End of an Era) is another song that shows another side of this singer Tarja (The first of three female leads). The two others are Anette Olzon (Suggested song: Amaranth) and Floor Jansen. All three are good, but very distinct in their singing style. Tarja brought a Classical style, while Anette brought a Pop style while Floor (The current one) is bringing more Rock. The male singer is Marco Hietala, I would say he is as good as the other three singers. He also has good solo songs and good collaborations.
the North German Division of the Nightwish Army reports !! We are there. special greetings to the General of the Army > Gabriel Bardac < (in your comments) and of course the rest of the Nightwish army and the sabaton family
Watch the version with Floor Jansen and Henk Poort (Henk Poort is the Dutch Phantom Of The opera sort of speak he is been performing that for ages in the netherlands) from the Dutch Show Beste zangers. she will love that version 100% as well. But yeah Tarja sang it originally for nightwish that is. Gorgeous vocals perfect band all together.
if you really want hard dark spell-binding Tarja (and Marko too) with Nightwish: (even some rocking on invisible guitar, head windmills, and etc theatrics too) (remember, the concerts/albums/covers must be BEFORE 2006, for Tarja's performances) (not ranked, just listed) 1. Slaying the Dreamer 2. Planet Hell 3. Wishmaster 4. Kinslayer 5. Ghost Love Score 6. The Siren 7. End of All Hope 8. Dead to the World 9. 10th Man Down

Tarja is a classically trained soprano. She also was sick during that performance. And Andrew Lloyd-Webber is known to like the Nightwish version of the phantom more than the Broadway one.
The female singer Tarja is fired immediately after this concert. Everyone knew that too, except Tarja. Due to private and artistic differences, collaboration was no longer possible. For me it has become better solo, so there is also a current recommendation: Tarja Shadow Play live Circus Life version Then they try to change direction and hire a pop singer. A period that I ignore because I think the singer was a mistake. During a tour they fall out and find themselves without a singer two days before the next concert. The savior was already on your channel, also with Phantom of the Opera: Floor Jansen. She is a mixture of her two predecessors and more. If it should be a duet again: NIGHTWISH - Romanticide (OFFICIAL LIVE VIDEO) The solo stuff she does alongside Nightwish fits better with your channel: Floor Jansen - My Paragon (Live at @RadioVeronica)
Do you now the original Nightwish Band Piano Thomas Holopainen BASS PLAYER Samy Vanska Gitarre Empu Vuirinen Drums Sorry i vorgestellt his Name but have fun with Nightwish
No! Just one word: Tarja! Some are so great they are known by only one name! If you just say "Tarja" everybody knows who you're speaking of, just like Bach or Beethoven.
Tarja Turune, as all three singers that has been in Nightwish, is schooled sopranos. Tarja and Floor Jansen are the best of them. Even Floor does an amazing Phantom of the orchestra in a little studio with a little audience. You can search It here on TH-cam.

Yes, Floor is a good vocalist as well, but honestly, she's more of a rock/metal singer than anything else and really can't do justice to the Tarja era songs. And had it not been for Tarja, Nightwish would have been more like Auri.
Incredible? Of course. Nightwish is incredible!!
Nightwish, Siren, Master Passion Greed, Planet hell... Those are all great songs with both Tarja and Marco. Edit. Not master passion, but it's a superb song by Marco. Tarja is also present, in the lyrics... And especially her husband :x
I strongly second this triplet of songs.
Tarja in Master Passion Greed? 🤔😬
@@villes3024 true, edited :D
Master Passion great is crap, as is most of the neo-nightwish songs. The golden Era of Nightwish was ~ 1998-2005. Sure, they're still a decent band, but nothing like they were back then.
I like else the song Deep Silent Complete and End of all hopes -live in concert.
Thanks that amazing reaction.👏👏 That was cool.👍 Sleeping Sun (LIVE) is my favorite ect. ❤ From 🇫🇮
Tarja is phenomenal,👌🥂🌷
Thanks!!Nightwish is symphonic metal ban from Finland. This performance was from 2005 and singer was their first singer Tarja Turunen, not Floor Jansen:). There is newer Nightwish version 2022 singer Floor Jansen and phantom role sing by Henk Poort(original Dutch phantom). And of course check out Nightwish own songs like Storytime(Wacken 2013, Ghost love Score(Wacken 2013) or Last ride of the day(Masters of Rock 2015)
Ghost Love Score (Wacker) has been known to be reacted to, by the odd vocal coach or two 🙂
Wonderful how you both spoke at 5:30, right over the best note delivery of the entire song
More.
Best band ever!! Best singers ever! Best versión! Perfect versión of this song!!
They have given exactly the right spirit, directly into the song. Gorgeous performance, incredibleee. Greetings from Turkey...
Fabulous reaction! The look of shock on his face at what Marko achieved in that performance was very amusing to me - most reactors to this song know Tarja is good, but are usually unprepared for how good Marko is….
Very, very few artists can destroy people with their performances. Nightwish did that and left no crumbs. I'd pay any money for such energy. Wow❤❤❤❤❤❤
Great reaction. Prepare yourselves for the Nightwish army to invade your comments. Incredibly talented band.
Siren, same concert!!
I recommend a Spanish singer, her name is Diana Navarro. With the song " El perdón " She is a very versatile singer singing different musical styles with a very particular voice and incredible melismas. She always transmits when she sings. Best regards and I hope you enjoy
this isn`t phantom of the opera.
this is the beauty and the beast^^
This is the best version there is.....Tuomas wrote this for them to sing and perform with heavier style than the original and fit to NW. They also act the roles well.
Just when you think you`ve heard everything and nothing can surprise you in the noble art of music, here comes Tarja Turunen and says:" Boss, I`m gonna need you to come with me!"
Nightwish - The Poet and the Pendulum next!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One of their best "theatrical" piece!!!
Please check Tarja solo with Pie Jesu or Supremacy from Woodstock 2016.
High hope is a must to listen too. Marko’ s voice is insane. It’s from the same concert.
Well you just met Marko! He is one of the best male vocalists alive but so underrated. He is so cool! You might hear of him by the fans as Rock Gandalf 😂
Pls more nightwish songssss ❤❤❤❤
Just lovely.
you have to hear the son **the siren** same band, same singer
Nightwish Army, North America Midwest, children of the corn division, reporting for duty!
Tarja and Marko❤❤❤❤❤
You e just found the best band ever!
🥰🇫🇮👋👋 Tarja Turunen & Marco Hietala👍
Nightwish in Finland in Hartwall Arena year 2000 new year…
If you liked this performance you should check out "Pharoah sails to Orion" either from "wishes to Eternity" or Raumanmeren Juhannus RMJ 2003. In that songs Marco doesn't sing, in fact he wasn't even in the band yet in Wishes to Eternity. However, Tapio Wilska performs the vocals of Pharoah.
amigo, eu vim pelo react do Nightwish, mas eu realmente amei a prévia da sua música, definitivamente vou ouvir sua arte 💙
Nice reaction dudes, epic, the best version (2005)🇸🇪
If you truly want more, they reunited some 18/19 years later this last year to perform ‘Left On Mars’ as a duet!
Marko Hietala & Tarja Turunen ‘Left On Mars’ ✅ it out!
Tarja y Marko ♥️♥️
How about watching them play "Walking in the air" - from the snowman movie. I buy you a beer if you say you don't like it.
The blonde was NOT READY for Night Wish and still is Not!!!!!❤❤❤❤
you need react more nightwish
this band had 3 singers, Tarja (Tarria) it ws the first one
and in my opinion, the best nightwish era
Everyone wants more of them😂
Hi there, thanks very much for checking out Nightwish.
Her voice UAU
the North German Division of the Nightwish Army reports !! We are there. special greetings to the General of the Army > Gabriel Bardac <
(in your comments) and of course the rest of the Nightwish army and the sabaton family
Eu amo Nightwish e amo Tarja
Tarja and floor are just brutal
Congratulations, you have been touched by the grace of Tarja Turunen and Marko Hietala epicness !
Tarja ❤
Watch the version with Floor Jansen and Henk Poort (Henk Poort is the Dutch Phantom Of The opera sort of speak he is been performing that for ages in the netherlands) from the Dutch Show Beste zangers. she will love that version 100% as well. But yeah Tarja sang it originally for nightwish that is. Gorgeous vocals perfect band all together.
Definitely check out more 🎉
if you really want hard dark spell-binding Tarja (and Marko too) with Nightwish:
(even some rocking on invisible guitar, head windmills, and etc theatrics too)
(remember, the concerts/albums/covers must be BEFORE 2006, for Tarja's performances)

2. Planet Hell
3. Wishmaster
4. Kinslayer
5. Ghost Love Score
6. The Siren

The best version cover I have ever heard. More Nightwish, please.
Well, Tarja is an opera singer after all 😂😂 cute to see your surprised faces. I witnessed the live version of this song by Nightwish 20 years ago and yeah, never was scared but it was amazing ❤
Same show, planet hell. They sung duet. Also The Siren same show.

Tarja is a classically trained soprano. She also was sick during that performance. And Andrew Lloyd-Webber is known to like the Nightwish version of the phantom more than the Broadway one.
Nightwish (with Tarja and Marko) is the Best metal-band! 👍👍
How can you not like Nightwish? Check out more of their songs. If you really like Phantom of the Opera, check out Nostra Morte's version.
The female singer Tarja is fired immediately after this concert. Everyone knew that too, except Tarja. Due to private and artistic differences, collaboration was no longer possible. For me it has become better solo, so there is also a current recommendation:
Tarja Shadow Play live Circus Life version
Then they try to change direction and hire a pop singer. A period that I ignore because I think the singer was a mistake. During a tour they fall out and find themselves without a singer two days before the next concert.
The savior was already on your channel, also with Phantom of the Opera: Floor Jansen. She is a mixture of her two predecessors and more. If it should be a duet again:
NIGHTWISH - Romanticide (OFFICIAL LIVE VIDEO)
The solo stuff she does alongside Nightwish fits better with your channel:
Floor Jansen - My Paragon (Live at @RadioVeronica)
Do you now the original Nightwish Band Piano Thomas Holopainen BASS PLAYER Samy Vanska Gitarre Empu Vuirinen Drums Sorry i vorgestellt his Name but have fun with Nightwish
You need to react to Ghost Love Score by Nightwish (live in Wacken 2013) with Floor Jansen
TWO WORDS: TARJA TURUNEN~
Nothing left to say.
No! Just one word: Tarja! Some are so great they are known by only one name! If you just say "Tarja" everybody knows who you're speaking of, just like Bach or Beethoven.
That was excellent, Best version ever
And that's how ppl used to sing without a full youtube of vocal coaches. Remember that, kids.
Tarja Turune, as all three singers that has been in Nightwish, is schooled sopranos. Tarja and Floor Jansen are the best of them.
Even Floor does an amazing Phantom of the orchestra in a little studio with a little audience.
You can search It here on TH-cam.
🤩👍💥💯🎼
You ain't see nothing yet by them! 😋🙃
The heck you want more... No question.
🤘😎 🇫🇮 💙
