Props to the host for not letting Tommy Lee Jones’ attitude throw her off. She’s great 👍 people interviewing movie stars or musicians these days seem to crack at the slightest bit of awkwardness or get offended that the person they are talking to isn’t giving them what they want. Bobby just gets the job done, doesn’t make it all about herself and it’s great.

@@TheOurVids I liked the film, I saw it at the cinema aged 11 and rewatched it on TV a number of times, though I haven't seen it in over 20 years. It's certainly better than Batman and Robin. I'm just saying in restropect his performance wasn't a great one, especially since I've seen a lot of his work since and I've seen what he can really do.

For one thing, he's playing Two-Face, so shouldn't the character have something of a split personality? But he doesn't really do this, he just does a big OTT pantomime villain performance the whole time. The script would have been partly to blame though.

Before they done the very first scene they met, Tommy was having dinner and all of a sudden Jim walks over and says hi to him. Then the blood strained from his face, gives him a hug and says he hates him because he "cannot sanction his buffoonery."

He's out of it but it's difficult to tell why. Bobbie's interviews are more interesting than Barbara Walters for many reasons, one of which is Bobbie seems to be a much better listener, smoother, interrupts sparsely. I love that Streisand interview - polite but Streisand is very tense. Other interviews celebrities just come across as lavish, one dimensional. These are a gem!

Tommy Lee Jones is a fantastic actor worthy of the utmost acclaim, and Batman Forever is the low point of his career. Not that the movie was bad, I actually like it a fair bit, but he and Two-Face were utterly wasted in that movie. No internal conflict, no gravitas, just a giggling fool asking to be upstaged by Ace Ventura: Batman Villain. Similarly, the worst thing about The Dark Knight was that they did so much to set up a great Two-Face just to kill him off immediately following a hoarse speech. Maybe a sequel to The Batman will finally give us a decent Two-Face...

Two Face isn't declared dead between Batman and Gordon in TDK. The only reason why he was actually killed off was because of what happened to Heath Ledger so TDKR would have no ties to TDK.

It’s incredible to think someone so serious and flat could pull off a zany character like Two-Face. He did a fine job in the role, and it’s a testament to his abilities that he can inject such enthusiasm and energy into a part when it’s really nothing like himself. Jim Carrey’s interviews with Bobbie are always so funny and entertaining, and his Riddler seems far closer to his personality by comparison. Famously, Tommy Lee did not like Carrey during filming, and told him so at a restaurant one night, “I can’t sanction your buffoonery.” Jim Carrey has told that story a few times.

I think, the fact that he might be awkward in life might propel him to play parts in movies. An actor gets to play a person who sheds those personal traits.

TLJ is one of my favorite actors ever, and I don't think Batman Forever is that bad a movie, but you can tell from this interview he doesn't look fondly on his performance and is kinda reluctant to talk about it. Can't say I blame him with how ridiculously over the top and hammy Two-Face was written. I have no doubt with a better script that took the character seriously he would've nailed it in the role. Didn't he even want to portray the character seriously but was told to make him cartoony and over the top?

No offense to Tommy Lee Jones, who is an incredible actor, but his choice to play Two Face as a zany flamboyant character made no sense at all. Admittedly, Jim Carrey hams it up as Riddler beyond what that character is supposed to be also, but between the two, Two-Face is supposed to be the one more grounded as a villain in gritty pursuit of his own sense of justice. And he knew Jim Carrey would bring manic energy given his public persona and brand of comedy, so it was definitely a miscalculation on his part. Look at Jeff Daniels talking about how he acted opposite Jim Carrey in Dumb and Dumber. Jeff said in an interview that his goal was to bring the opposite energy to Jim because that would be the only way it would work. He was right--it was an obvious but brilliant choice. I think Tommy Lee Jones missed the mark here.
