      First question: basically - what regrets do you have? what would you change in the younger you? - who hasn't though of this in their lives?
      Second question: how a character's personallity approaches or diverges from the actor who plays it - this is something often discussed, very often in this particular case him in of Men in Black, even in this comment section itself - why should this not be interesting? (perhaps because it's an embarassing tabu to him, because he knows...dunno - if it is, there is no reason for it to be so)
      etc etc
      I came here expecting some dumb questions to be asked, not a guy that might be at least an ok actor having square reactions to some otherwise well thought questions, and then, as a byproduct, convincing buffoons in this comment section that it's interviewers that are the buffoons, just because he's the one that is the famous actor, and nobody gives a shit about thinking about stuff for a little bit.
      Analyse shit people, DUH

He can play a rediculous part and go back to being a normal person. Its exactly this that made him not like jim carry. Jim plays his same obnoxious self in most all his movies with rare exceptions, and he remains that exact same over the top person when the cameras stop rolling. Finally I asked the waitress (a friend) when she told me I was really embarrassed. About 20 minutes later he came over and introduced himself to us😮He was so sweet. He has no empathy for the interviewers. They're trying, he isn't. If a notable person sits down for an interview simple common courtesy requires them to respond to a legitimate, well-meaning question in a civilized way.
    Okay, the questions may not be to Jones' taste, he may be bored or unimpressed by the question, but don't embarrass the interviewer, and yourself, by being unresponsive.
    For example, toward the beginning the interviewer asks Jones if he could go back in time and give himself dome acting advice. Now that's not only a valid, legitimate question but if you think about it actors will during the course of an interview proactively offer their opinion on how they could have been a better actor when they were younger and less experienced. I recall Paul Newman making just this point in a Playboy interview when he said he cringed at seeing himself in his earlier movies, indicating that he should have "done less," i.e., not overacted/over-reacted so much in his acting.
    So Tommy Lee Jones in this interview is just being uncooperative and, in fact, condescending. If this was "prime time" and, say, Barbara Walters or some other network superstar were interviewing him, I'm sure he'd react a lot differently. So, no, these are not too "hipsters" interviewing Tommy Lee Jones, this is an interview where Tommy Lee Jones is indulging his "celebrity status" be be difficult and unprofessional. ... It happens. ... All too often.

    • @xunkownx499
      @xunkownx499 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I would disagree partially on this take. Some of the complexity of the questions go beyond the necessary standards for a low-tier press interview that actors are mandated to do. Tommy Lee can be a very well spoken person in his correct element, these 'hipsters' simply just can't make the interviews enjoyable or connect their questions to relevancy of the movie. Only on paper does their questions sound somewhat "valid" and "legitimate" - but the whole "if you could time travel back in time onto a movie set and meet your old self and-" yikes. How about "As an actor, is there something that you wish you knew back then that you know now?" Simple, sweet, concise, not convoluted, and not awkward.
      Funny enough, even Josh Brolin (Agent K in MIB3) said that internationally and oversees is where the questions are normal and valid and make sense, it's only in Hollywood where they usually get the weird ones.

    These journos need to do their homework. TLJ just doesn't carry characters he has played in the past around with him. He doesn't relate to them or even remember their names. By the time he's promoting this film he's done 2 more. He is a great actor because he interprets a script, and direction, extremely well. He does the job, then he goes home and gets on with his life. There are things he will happily talk about. But these questions are either dumb or very convoluted. Just watch or read a few interviews with the guy. Work out what he will respond to. Oh and send a woman next time. A pretty one... ;)
