Tommy Lee deserved the Oscar for his performance in 'No Country...' His acting was so quiet and soulful. It wasn't a flashy, quirky performance. The acting here simply demanded your full attention.

With all your respect, the only brilliant person that deserved an Oscar got it, his name is Javier Braden. Tell me something, do you think Tommy or most of the actors in Hollywood could have done the acting that Javier did? I would be money, most can't. Not a whole lots of actors in Hollywood with the caliber of Brandon or Pacino. Even a great actor like Tom Hanks can't do that role.

Charlie was a great interviewer long ago. But, he began to believe he knew more than he really did. So, he oddly began to interrupt his guests with out-of-touch comments which even made his guests frustrated. You can see it in TLJ’s face. Pure frustration.

A bad interviewer is greedy for screen time, so they go on and on with endless questions that have no substance--just so the camera stays on them. A good interviewer does research on the guest, asks pertinent, smart, concise questions, and then gets out of the way.

    • @nopassenger2151
      @nopassenger2151 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I think that if you were to consider this more like a podcast is today It becomes more acceptable. Interviewers like Sean from hot ones specifically ask questions that are going to draw out a long answer that will fill time. Skilled interviewers like Sean also specifically do not interrupt responses. I honestly think that this is more of a conversation than an interview. Now with that being said I would say that it was completely on accident when it is considered that in fact he was attempting to conduct an interview. For that point I agree with you that Charlie simply interrupts his interviewees too much.

"Read the screenplay, understand it as well as you can, do your best to find out what the director wants to see and make it possible in every way you can for him to see it". What a powerful description of the mission of a screen actor. Thank you Mr. Jones, I for my part have seen you do it over and over again in many movies. I love the way you remain transparent or non-existent as an actor. I see your character in the story, and not Tommy Lee Jones when I watch you perform in a movie scene. I admire your talent and hard work only after the movie. Thank you really, for the wonderful time you have given me and my beloved company when watching your movies.

Don't ask me how many times I watched "The Fugutive" remake with him and Harrison Ford. All these years later and I still remain in awe of him. A lot of that comes fromthe mystery surrounding him. He's always stayed out of the spotlight and off the of the covers of the tabloids somehow, and I love that about him. The mystery only makes him that much more intriguing to me.

It would be an honor to me if someday I could meet him in person but find him wonderful even from afar and enjoy what he does on screen to bring us entertainment at home. It's because the whole world has been hypnotized by "the box" ever since they were born. Most people have no idea, nor could they fathom living without TV, or movies, and they willingly buy whatever the person on the screen is selling. It will be the downfall of the human race. We are already seeing this. It's why Hollywood actors think they are relevant in terms of politics. They realize the power they wield, regardless of their inability to think logically.

Charlie Rose is so insufferable. He asks Tommy a question, and when Tommy answers, Rose says "Exactly." As if Charlie was the teacher giving a test and the audience needs Charlie to verify that Tommy's opinion is correct, because Charlie is the authority on everything. And when Tommy says he knows the author who wrote the book and has read all of his books, Charlie has to immediately say he knew that. Charlie can't subordinate himself to an interview subject, no matter who it is. I'm glad he got what was coming to him.

"Islands in the Stream" has already
been made into a movie, starring
    George C. Scott as "Thomas
    Hudson," the painter. The book
    contains some of Hemingway's
    best writing, in my opinion,
    especially about family and
    other human relationships.
    Edit: Released in 1977.

Fascinating! It's always an incredible experience to get to hear the man behind the movie talk about himself! Charlie Rose keeps it interesting and engaging! What a time, the fact that the internet allows access to stuff like this reminds me of how I initially felt as a kid first getting access to the internet. The ability to be able to access broadcasts that otherwise would have been lost to time, essentially hidden away in some inaccessible corporate archive. TH-cam is the greatest god damn thing ever lol

It's quite sad, really, that people like Charlie Rose and Michael Parkinson were gifted with the job of longer form interviews, yet were not particularly skilled and didn't really become more skilled as they progressed. I don't know why, although I think it's largely because they ended up placing themselves on the same level as their subjects.

You could see mr Jones’s irritation with the quality of the interviewers lines of questions. They were all obvious questions that was cringeworthy to watch. A good interview uncovers the real soul and inner thoughts of the person interviewed. The whole point of an interview is to get to know more of the person of interest. None of these questions stimulated any soulful revelation and to be fair mr Jones obviously doesn’t want to reveal anything personal. Although I think he would be a really great person to get to know he clearly values his privacy. I think that is very wise way to carry yourself especially if you’re a public person
