Groundhog Day 1993 is AWESOME!That list is bullshit tbh. For example, Michael Jackson was on that list... I mean at some point he started looking like a literal lizard. Also, Shane Dawson was on that list. Is Shane hot? Is he a “great actor”? I didn’t think so. I didn’t bother to look through the whole list because it was obviously just a huge collection of every actor u could find just to prove a dumb point. And just to clarify I’m not even a Leo fan girl. Tbh if u look thru even 1 page of that list you’ll come across quite a few ugly people 🤭🤭 U also said anyone who disagrees w/ u doesn’t know anything about acting. I’d like to consider myself someone who knows quite a bit since I’ve watched so many movies and say that Leo was fucking phenomenal in that movie. U said that u don’t like Martin Scorsese (wtf why wouldn’t u?) and u said that u would understand y he would work with Robert deniro (he’s awesome) and the only reason Scorsese made so many movies with Leo is cuz Robert told him abt Leo and said he should work with him. Sorry for having a rant 😙😙

The Academy did the same thing the previous year when Robert Downey Jr's portrayal of Chaplin lost out to Al Pacino in Scent of a Woman. Pacino already had several nominations for earlier work, one of which should have won an Oscar (Godfather) but they didn't give him the Oscar so they took it from RDJ for a less deserving piece of work.

Would you consider yourself to be a good person?
How many lies have you told, and what do you call someone who lies? Have you ever stolen something, and what do you call someone who steals? Have you ever taken God’s name in vain (very serious; in Old Testament times, the Jews wouldn’t even say the name of God for fear of blasphemy) - even ‘OMG’? One more: Jesus said whoever looks at a woman to lust after her has already committed adultery in his heart; have you ever looked with lust?
Well I’m not judging you - but if you’ve done these things then you’re a liar, thief, blasphemer and adulterer-at-heart; that’s how seriously God takes sin. He is Holy (perfectly good/righteous and separate from sin) which means that H e is perfect in justice - and if He were to judge you by the moral law (we’ve already looked at 4 commandments) would you be innocent or guilty? Heaven or Hell? The answer is hell - the wrath of God upon you for your sin. Is that concerning?
But fortunately, God’s will is not that you perish. He wants all men everywhere to be saved. So do you know what He did for us guilty sinners? In self-giving mercy, He sent His Son Jesus Christ. He lived the perfect life that we should have lived - tempted at all points and yet He NEVER sinned. Through His life, being in very nature God, He revealed God to men; but we in our hatred condemned Him to death. On that cross as Jesus suffered, He took on the sin of the world and was judged in our place; receiving God’s wrath. You and I broke God’s law, but Jesus paid the fine. God can justly forgive us.
On that cross He died, then He was buried, but 3 days later He was raised from the dead - conquering death and Hell and ushering in The Kingdom of God. He then ascended to the right hand of God the Father (where He came from) now Lord of the living and the dead. God has fixed a date when He will judge the world in righteousness. What you need to do is repent (In humility, acknowledge your sin before God and turn to a relationship with Him) and trust ALONE in Jesus Christ and His work on the cross; and God will grant you the gift of the Holy Spirit. Then be baptised.
When you place your trust in Jesus - the Lord and Saviour - these things will happen:
      1) God will forgive the sins that you have committed; they were paid for by Jesus at the cross.
      2) The perfect life that Jesus lived will be credited to you. He will find you holy and blameless on judgement day (and now), as Christ’s righteousness covers you.
      3) You receive a place in Christ’s kingdom as an adopted child of God. God becomes your Father. Eternal life isn’t just about living forever, but a personal relationship with God Himself. That life can start now; The Father will reveal Himself to you if you seek Him.
      4) God doesn’t just save you from the penalty of your sin (Hell). He can save you from the power of sin itself. Whoever practices sin is a slave of sin; but when you repent and believe the gospel [WHICH HAS BEEN DESCRIBED] the Holy Spirit comes to dwell in you and sanctify you (working in you to further abandon sin and turn to the will of God). When the end of the age comes, and eternity begins, this work will be brought to completion as you are finally freed from the presence of sin.
Jesus offers to take away your sin and to give you His righteousness; you must receive it by faith. Choose this day if you will align with the world, or with Jesus and His kingdom - only His is eternal.
ROMANS 10:9 - If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved

People say DiCaprio shouldn't have gotten the Oscar, but Fiennes should've. Fiennes was great, but to me, DiCaprio's performance was a much more difficult as playing a ruthless character who turns good in the end, isn't something that people haven't seen before. There aren't many roles where actors play mentally handicapped characters very well that were convincing.
The only ones that come to mind are Dustin Hoffman in Rain Man and Tom Hanks in Forrest Gump. But Arnie Grape had a different type of handicap than Raymond or Forrest had. Those two had certain talents we see, while we don't see any talents, aside from climbing the water tower, that Arnie has, as he's home the whole time, except when Gilbert goes into town to work or they go some place. Playing someone like Arnie Grape would be difficult as you don't want to act like you're making fun of people of that certain handicap, but you want to play the character as he's supposed to be acted.
While I do think Fiennes would be a great runner up, either of them would be a better choice to win than Jones' performance in The Fugitive, which is just an decant, okay performance.

    • @rambokunga5905
      @rambokunga5905 8 ปีที่แล้ว

I don't think anybody would play as well as Fienned did either. Anyone who says TLJ is the same in every movie clearly hasn't seen Cobb, which was the movie that required him to go with the bald look as seen here. Fiennes was fantastic, malkovich played one of the great all time screen villains and Dicrapio was quite good even at a young age.
But considering that the fugitive was based on a highly popular and beloved tv show where this character had already been portrayed, TLJ was nothing but captivating and truly unique in what he did with his performance. His entire arc is what drives the movie. And In a movie where Tommy's most remembered for his snappy dialogue, it's the quiet moments where his character really shines. Between facial ticks and most importantly, his eyes.
His mouth would say one thing, his eyes told a different story altogether. That's the brilliance of his performance and why I believe he won the Oscar. He absolutely deserved it.

@@flaccidusminimus2170 Good list. I personally would have replaced TLJ for Denzel Washington for Philadelphia. But yeah I found DiCaprio's performance over the top as well and one dimensional compared to these performances you mentioned and probably wouldn't have nominated him either. For me it's easily Val vs Ralph at the end. One gave us the greatest Doc Holliday and arguably the greatest western acting performance ever, other gave us arguably the most terrifying and chilling movie villain ever... Both could have won. Unfortunately their movies had to be released in the same year.

I am gonna be honest here, I like TLJ but he shouldn't even have been nominated here nor should have JM. My lineup would have DEFINITELY been:-
    Ralph Fiennes(Schindler's List)
    Denzel Washington(Philadelphia)
    Leonardo DiCaprio(What's Eating Gilbert Grape)
    Val Kilmer(Tombstone)
Peter Postlethwaite(In The Name Of The Father)
    Winner:-Ralph Fiennes(Schindler's List)

That's a good list, I could get behind that.

Love Tommy's performance but I felt like this was one of those lifetime achievement Oscars. Fiennes was way more deserving.

I generally agree that it should go to the best performance, but I think in the cases of some people who've contributed so much, they deserve an Oscar.

I just want to say the same thing that 90% of comments here are saying. RALPH FIENNES DESERVED THAT OSCAR!!!

This is still considered one of the great Oscar flubs in Academy history. And no disrespect to TLJ, who was great fun to watch in "The Fugitive." But there are reasons people are still talking about Ralph Fiennes' performance.

Ralph Fiennes was BY FAR the best performance of that group. Not even close.

I don’t know what’s better, winning an Oscar or meeting Marisa Tomei
