    "El miedo mata la mente" is the actual official translation of the line in Spain, but it's more like "Fear kills the mind". Javier was remembering from the book, rather than translating it himself.
    The problem is that the word "killer" is not used in English the same way as it's more direct translation ("asesino") is used in Spanish. So the direct translation "El miedo es el asesino de la mente" sounds awkward and stilted, so they modified it a bit to make it sound more natural.

    “No conocerás el miedo. El miedo mata la mente. El miedo es la pequeña muerte que conduce a la destrucción total. Afrontaré mi miedo. Permitiré que pase sobre mí y a través de mí. Y cuando haya pasado girare mi ojo interior para escrutar su camino. Allá donde haya pasado el miedo ya no habrá nada. Solo estare yo.”
    “I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”

      It's not that no one else saw it, it's that the Coen brothers are versed in cinema outside the US. Bardem had a distinguished acting career in Spain before he got that role, with very powerful performances. Receiving an offer to wear a stillsuit is right up there with him getting to hold Arwen's sword from LOTR. That's massive. That's certainly very generous.

    5:26 So nice to see Nêgah again. She's so gorgeous and what an infectious smile! Rarely see her close up now we're back to the EST. /sadface Bring back the home studio with Evie as the audience at least just for an occasional treat! With the band playing like the Brady Bunch intro it meant we could watch each of them playing. Now we just get an occasional glance and Nêgah and Joe are always in the shadows at the back. :(

    I'd say Javier and Penélope have been much luckier than Antonio Banderas was when he succeeded in the USA back in the day. Antonio received so much hate here in Spain then. I guess now we've learned to "forgive" our fellow citizens for succeeding.
    I'm happy for them 🙂

      You think so? My mother was crazy about Banderas. Perhaps the difference might be that Barden does staff in Spain. I do not know but I like the guy.

      @cancangirl2888 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You know, I was just thinking about Banderas before I came across your thread. And as I recall, I think he was disliked because he jilted his Spanish fiancée and married an American. I guess many Spanish fans felt betrayed by that move.

    To Javier’s credit, it is easier to translate from Spanish to English than English to Spanish. This is because the choices of words available.

    "El miedo es el asesino de las mentes" I would translate it like that. His accent is very strong ,but his speech in English is very good. The construction of the sentences and so.
