    I watch all of the late night shows and Stephen's guests have the best entrances. We can thank Jon for the proper music that gets everyone going. Great. I think it makes the guests so comfortable.

    • @audreymuzingo933

      Funny because I always think the opposite. I feel like they often choose a weird song for the guest, sometimes even kinda sad-sounding ones, and to me they sound BAD, disjointed like a band of middle schoolers, LOL. --I do mean just during guest entrances; the rest of the time they sound great, probably rehearse the songs more.

    • @Davidman3976
      @Davidman3976 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They know they need to come up with something because it's kind of weird to walk right to the armchair when the music is still playing and the people are clapping.

    • @audreymuzingo933
      @audreymuzingo933 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Davidman3976 Yeah they've had walk-in music going all the way back to Johnny Carson. They probably figured it would encourage more applause and it probably does, but back then there was an impulse to music-ify EVERYTHING, like if you want to make something better, add music! Thus every product advertised on TV had a "jingle" and this actually went all the way back to radio shows and their commercials because the listener was just sitting in their home looking at the walls, ha. But at least on radio shows, guest speakers could already be sitting in the studio while the host did his monologue; with the invention of TV, they had to do a visible 'entrance' so thus, ADD MUSIC! If that wasn't an automatic idea, it might have come from the fact that some guests will get noticeably less applause than others (maybe even a few "boos" in some cases) and that's true even to this day, so music can help to modulate it, level it out and make each guest seem just as special as any other.

      Hmmm not so sure. As a Cuban American who has seen a few clips from Desi Arnaz, I don't see much of him in the performance so far, and I only see a Spanish accent with a slightly higher pitch. He tried in his interview, but it comes out cartoonish, like Al Pacino in Scarface (where had a real Cuban American accent right there next to him in his friend). That said, Javier Bardem is usually a very good actor.

      For spanish speaking people both accents are as different as can be. Jamaican english compared to british english

    • @azul-t6m
      @azul-t6m 2 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      @@xsotax It is a bit like comparing British English, where they finish every sentence, pronounce every letter, the t’s, the s, with a very clean and direct, sometimes seen as cold European way of saying things, with the American accent, where they normally soften the words, cut sentences and talk with a less straight to the point pronunciation.
      In Spain there are areas, like Canary Islands or Andalucía, where they talk with a very similar accent to some Latin American countries, but that’s because that’s were the XVII century conquerors were from back then. Most people in Spain do not speak like that though. There are also local languages that influences the European Spanish.
      And then there is specific vocabulary to each Spanish speaking country, some of the Latin American words also exist to this day in Spain and they are used in the same or different context, but other words do not exist at all or existed in old Castilian but disappeared from the common language a long time ago. Spain has also had a lot of influence from the surrounding countries that once invaded it like Italy, Greece, France, UK, Germany, Middle East/Arabic countries, as well as other minor influences from some other northern African and northern European countries, so lots of spanish words have those cultural influences and those origins.
      In the case of Latin America, they have native words not used in Europe and there are places like Mexico, for example, where there is a lot of influence from the US, so that’s why they sometimes add English words to their vocabulary on a daily basis. Social Media and the Internet is also changing the way younger generations speak this days too, mainly because of videogames, foreign tv shows, movies, etc.

    There is nothing "wierd" about calling it a spirit that comes through the artist.
    We don't have precise language to describe what happens when actors or singers or instrumentalists create their art. Ask a songwriter or a pianist where it flows from and many of them will just say, I don't know it just comes to me somehow . I don't know if there's a god, but art might be the greatest proof of it.

    Oh memories! The first movie I watched of him was "Before Night Falls" with Johnny Depp, where he received his first Oscar nomination and really catapulted his Hollywood career into stardom. He is very organic playing real-life characters. Playing the gay Cuban poet Arenas was so unbelievable that I almost always had a visceral reaction to every scene he was on. The movie was a cinematic triumph for me and a masterpiece on its own. It may not have a blockbuster release as it was an Indie film but certainly it lingers far more deep and meaningful to the viewers who watched it. Now, as a Nicole Kidman most avid fan, he is the consummate choice to play the character of Arnas. I think this movie about the iconic TV couple is perfect to a T and theirs is a match made in Hollywood heaven. Both endearing, profound, ultra-talented, legendary in their acting prowess and artistry. Both Kidman and Bardem have both a fascinating body of work. Can't wait for them to take home those Oscars!

    As an American living in Spain, I will tell you that there are no people more open and honest and expressive than the Spaniards. What Americans need to understand now is the time of Franco here in Spain and how it affected this culture and how the people still remember the repression and poverty and the cruelty that Franco inflicted on the majority of the population. Research it, learn about it, you Americans who voted for El Trumpo.....our democracy and lives depend on your awareness.

      Yet there seems to have be a concerted effort to forget every aspect, repress all memories of the Franco years by the governments that followed . My English parents live there and told me about a local wall in Spain where 14 people were shot by Francoists - the bullet holes remain - no memorial. This seems to happen a lot in societies that have been through such Trauma , not least because the perpetrators and their successors are so numerous and also , still in positions of power.

    I'd say Javier and Penélope have been much luckier than Antonio Banderas was when he succeeded in the USA back in the day. Antonio received so much hate here in Spain then. I guess now we've learned to "forgive" our fellow citizens for succeeding.
    I'm happy for them 🙂

    • @Cattiva
      @Cattiva 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      💯 agreed! Also the fact that Banderas ended his marriage at the same time , and the gossip about Madonna didn't help.

      Who in the hell hated Antonio and for what?

    • @Cattiva
      @Cattiva 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@FlowerGirl.MN50 backlash for "selling out " I think . Antonio Banderas was at the time part of a small group of actors that were viewed very seriously. Actors in Europe have a different feeling ..as part of art that can be transcendental. Also he had been married many many years and after getting "discovered" by the Hollywood elite they broke up . Also not sure if you're old enough to remember Madonna's documentary, she really was attracted to him and have him a platform for the US audiences to discover him as something exotic. I knew Banderas sin late 90's as part of Almodovar's troupe of actors . Adored his performances especially in Tie me up, tie me down .

    Here are some ways to connect Javier to Kevin Bacon:
    1. Javier Bardem was in No Country for Old Men with Tommy Lee Jones, who was in JFK with Kevin Bacon.
    2. Javier Bardem was in Vicky Cristina Barcelona with Scarlett Johansson, who was in Lost in Translation with Bill Murray, who was in Wild Things with Kevin Bacon.
    3. Javier Bardem was in Skyfall with Daniel Craig, who was in Road to Perdition with Tom Hanks, who was in Apollo 13 with Kevin Bacon.
    There might be others, but those are just 3.
