This is the culmination of over 230 hours worth of research, media translation, cross-reference, editing, composition, and tittuping. An absolute labor of love.
The song is La Foule by Edith Piaf to reference the role of the Fool utilized on this television show, on which I speak often in my short essay (and which would recognize, should you have read it.) I will admit with bashful reconsideration that this choice in accompaniment is greatly on the nose, alas it is too late.
I cannot stress how wary I am about copyright infringement and I must emphasize that this is utterly for educational purposes and complete rights must and are currently attributed by me to their rightful owners the BBC and Parlophone Records Ltd. Though it be confined to slightly under 2000 words, the writings on my genuine research of this topic are for the purposes of the self-motivated academic study on the intersection of aggrandized, televised, personality-based chemistries in panel-show production, and homoeroticism in encyclopedic contexts. Which you would know, should you have read it.
Happy pride month, Thank you, and goodnight.

A wonderful video and essay. I enjoy how you presented it as a reflection on the subconscious shift in the teacher/fool role rather than speculating on the personal lives of Stephen and Alan. Although I am a passionate lover of homoerotic tension (and am in the midst of compiling a list of homoerotic male couples in various pieces of media) even I draw the line at actually gossiping and shipping real people.
As a side note, I also find it interesting that QI is one of the few TV shows which have only ever had queer hosts and I applaud them for not flaunting that title as if it's something of a special achievement. As a gay woman myself it makes me incredibly happy to see shows include this community without making a huge deal about it or "queerbaiting" etc. we're just normal people like everyone else

Thank you for your words! It’s so true. I personally really dislike when people assume that the characters that people portray as entertainment personalities are the absolutes of those people. its such a shallow and unintrospective worldview and the way parasocial rule dictates jumping to conclusions based on an extremely limited and often purposefully altered perspective is just a really disheartening fact of modern culture. ik thats a huge generalization but i wish we could just appreciate media for being media lol.

@@gayva thank you, I really enjoyed it. I found it interesting the way you describe their shifting personas and thus on-screen relationship as the series go on. Perhaps even more interestingly, Davies‘ appearance on Taskmaster (a show which shares many parallels with QI- a comedy panel show with a queer host in a position of authority) lacked any of the homoerotic dynamic that Davies displayed on QI. Perhaps Little Alex Horne already fills that role, although his relationship with Greg is less flirtatious and more contrived for comedic effect, such as insinuating that they share a home (‘When we’re at home, Alex has to move around on the floor like a snake’) even when the viewer knows this isn‘t the case. A very well written essay, thank you.

If I had a pound for every UK comedy panel show I got way too attached to where the host and his punching bag of a friend have massive homoerotic tension for no reason I'd have two pounds

My ESL English teacher recommended I watch QI to "better understand British culture" but I never quite had the time for it. You just made me realise what she was likely trying to accomplish because that woman definitely knew I was queer lol (tbf I make zero attempts at hiding it)

"Loving" severely damaged...almost destroyed....Hamlin's career. The audiences/society weren't ready I guess. If the film were made today, he'd be much more widely celebrated.
