And naturally, we’re partial to the panel. Our Team X group of pilots and experimental engineers worked with Mike to develop a unique Garmin panel for “Scrappy.” Mike will be spending time at our exhibit with “Scrappy” answering your questions, taking pictures and signing autographs. @sixpackpilot 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Not as incredible as one might think. It is an old, tried and tested invention. The DHC2 Beaver has been using flaperons since its first flight in 1947. btw the Ju-87 Stuka already used slotted ailerons, that while not real flaperons, did help low-speed characteristics a lot.

      Been using flaperons on model planes for 30+ years

    • @429thunderjet2
      @429thunderjet2 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mrbmp09 yes but these aren't usually what we think of as flaperons are they? Because the drooping ailerons are separate from the actual flaps. When thinking of flaperons I envision one piece, narrow corded, pretty much full length of the wing, mounted slightly below and trailing the wing trailing edge. Like the German storch, kitfox, zenith 701-801 etc. While they provide excellent roll authority otherwise, flaperons at anywhere near full flap setting lose a lot of roll authority. So in a stiff crosswind you can't use much flap deflection. That's why Mike elected not to use flaperons I think. 🤔
