The best thing about you Mike is that you would build this plane even with out TH-cam, but we are privileged to be able to share your passion of working and building! Thank you Mike and the entire Patey family…. Including Ron!😉👍🏻
I'm nearly 73 and watching Mike Patey motivates me to keep moving harder than ever! Let's do it! I'm doing 100+ push-ups per day and power walking 5 miles minimum. Not to mention, I run a wheelbarrow and shovel every day doing landscape projects.
👍 Inspiring to me. I had back surgery @ 2 yrs ago and have been planning to 'get back in shape' ever since. I'll be 60 yrs old soon. Your comment motivated me. Thank you
@ You’re welcome! i’m going to post a video of me doing some push-ups, etc.. I know people say a lot of things, but I’m telling the truth. It’s not easy at my age. I can tell you that, but I’m maintaining so far.
There's not anyone I know of that can hold a candle to you Mike. Your contributions to Aviation and Engineering are unmatched. Your work ethic is off the charts. Thank you!
4:28 Thanks to you and your Draco, built on the basis of the Polish PZL 104 Wilga 35 aircraft, some unfamiliar viewers will start looking for information about this aircraft and Polish designers. Thanks for all the hard work you put into this plane. Greetings from Poland. People like you are Poland's best ambassadors. 🛩
Absolutely, Mike. Being nice to everyone makes the world a better place, one person at a time. A smile, a hello, or asking about their day, can make someone's day. We all are dealing with something. Make someone's day better. Every day. Every. Day. You are an inspiration.
Mike is by far the best pilot I have ever come across. Not only does he build the most capable machines in the air, but when he makes a mistake he is the first one to say "I messed up." He wants the world to learn from his mistakes so that the world of Aviation is a safer place for all of us. The day he crashed Draco he immediately put out a video letting us know that he was OK but I think the very first sentence out of his mouth was "I messed up, don't be stupid like I was." He immediately took responsibility and full credit for his mistake. The next day he told the world exactly how it happened and what he did wrong. He has pushed aviation safety for years because he has seen people make fatal mistakes that didn't need to happen. I have more respect for him as a pilot than I have for any other pilot in the world. Listen and learn everyone as he can teach you things that nobody else can.
You’re so right about him being an awesome pilot. His incredible “test pilot like” handling of his flight level Turbulence engine failure with an IFR emergency descent and landing was off the charts.
Mike, my Grandfather was an A&P and CFI and my dad got his license under him as eventually met and married my mom. Dad passed a couple of years ago and grandpa about 20+ years ago. I am sure that grandpa would have been impressed with your builds and while dad was in Hospice, I started showing him your videos. He really enjoyed them and commented that you were cutting edge. He was a machinist and understood everything you talked about. I never got my pilots license, but still have the itch, just very shallow pockets. One day! Thank you for sharing your passion and giving me and my dad some things to talk about during the quiet times of his last days. Much love to you and your family and may you always have landings that you can walk away from. 🤙🤙
I'm amazed by your energy and work ethic Mike. I'm 75 with lots of projects on the go...but your creations are flat out incredible and I look forward to every new post. Back to work!
I grew up in Utah county and got my private and instrument rating flying out of Provo. Mike and his videos have been a huge motivator for me. I was not able to finish my flight training due to life and the expense of General Aviation. But Mike Patey and his videos really pushed me to keep flying and piloting. I am now in Alabama training with the US Army as an Aviator. The aviation community is small and filled with amazing people. I hope to one day be able to help and motivate people like Mike does!!
No Mike, thank you. You’re the reason I own both a 2.0 and micro Eflite Draco. It’s the amazing story and capability of the plane that makes it so unique and desirable. Scrappy is cool but there is nothing like Draco. Keep these stories coming and you give so much to the full scale and RC community!
I remeber the first time I ever met/saw a Wilga... 1990's Cable Air Show in SoCal. I fell in love with her as a lil kid. Back then they were using her as a paradrop platform with her STOL as a side act. I fell so in love with the Wilga as a little kid maan. I still have photos of myself in the cockpit of that same Wilga a few years later.
In the last two videos I’ve watched of Mike, as they were nearing the end, I found myself, without realizing it, with my mouth open and completely fascinated. What this man does is truly incredible.
I don't even fly and even I have heard of / gasped in awe at Draco. Such a wild project Was sad to see it get wrecked, but glad to see its echo is louder than ever.
Mike Patey- PLEASE DON’T EVER CHANGE! You have captivated so many with your incredible flying machines, but it is the “message” you slip into these videos, which touches our hearts and souls. Thank you for being such an inspiration, you are truly one of a kind 💪🏻🙏❤️
THANK YOU!!! I was really looking forward (from after the build was done) to see a lot of flying footage and learn the stats of Draco. Can't wait to see more! Also looking forward to DracoX build! Please don't let it be many years from "done building" until we see it flying.
At 42 year old I have finally started working on my PPL my student pilot license just arrived in the mail even though I’m not solo flying yet and flying once a week with a CFI in his 127N Skyhawk flying 2-3 hours a week but at $450-$500 a week it sure is adding up fast and sure wish I could just pay outright for it but it’s not in the budget since I recently started my own HVAC business after being an hvac tech for over 22 years. Thanks to you, Garrett (Cletus) Trent Palmer, Jimmys world, for the inspiration to finally make a dream of mine come true. If you are ever in Scottsdale, Gilbert, Chandler, Mesa, Arizona please let me know I would love to fly copilot with you.
You ought to be able to Solo with between 8-15 hours. And Solo-cross country around hour 20-25. From there, You only rent the plane not the Instructor. Self-Study saves thousands. Other than the FAR/AIM, Airplane Flying Handbook, Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge. I suggest to everyone, pick up Stick and Rudder by Wolfgang Langweische. (1944). Terminology is somewhat outdated, but the knowledge is unmatched. Nobody has written a better book on how t actually fly an airplane. Thinking pilots flight manual Vol I & II by Rick Durden are also excellent books.
I watched the entire Draco build and was amazed. The crash…I was relieved Mike survived, but utterly heartbroken at the destruction of this unique aircraft. I don’t fly, but felt a deep loss of such a staggeringly capable machine. My hope is that Mike will build another…identical. This is the coolest plane I have ever seen. May you live forever Mike.
like allways...againandagain sooo inspirering....mike is an extraordinary person and proves how a human brain can be developed with a positive attitude to life !!!
Mike, I follow your channel because you modified the Polish Wilga 2000 and gave it a new life in the form of Draco. The Wilga is one of my favorite small planes. I don't know what it is about, but there's something about it. I proposed on board the Wilga. My dream is to get a pilot's license, so I filled out the form on your website. I can't normally allocate that kind of money. I hope you can help me make my dreams come true. You are a great person, an aviation freak, you are very positive. I always keep my fingers crossed for you. I look forward to learning more about Draco X. 🎉❤🎉
I follow you from Zimbabwe. Please Mike bring back Draco. There will never be any other, that is better than draco, the concept, the inspiration and everything else. I wait for that day when draco rule the skies again
I grew up learning about the pioneers & legends of aviation history, names like Howard Hughes, Kelly Johnson, & Burt Rutan. It's been awe inspiring and heart warming to watch, in real time and with so much more detail, and witness Mike Patey cut, grind, and vacuum bag his own name into American General Aviation history right next to those who came before him.
Thank you so much Mike. I love your videos, your passion for aviation and your passion for life. Your encouragement at the end of this vid is amazing. (11:55) If may be a little out of place, but I’m happy to share more. Jesus is who makes me grateful. This life is fleeting, but he isn’t. Absolutely flipped my life upside down in the most amazing way possible. Thank you so much for sharing your journey. More to come 🧡🕊️
Thank you for making your videos. I know it delays your work and makes the workflow more complicated, but, you have no idea how many people you inspire to do better every day. I'm still waiting to see what Scrappy can do. I watched all the build videos at least 3 times. The innovations, esp the wing design, were very compelling
Mike, when I first found your channel, I was blown away by your enthusiasm, attention to detail, and love for aviation. At the time I was not a pilot, but it was my dream. I was hooked on watching your videos, and you fueled the fire in me to finally chase my dream of flight. You are a true inspiration to so many people. I passed my PPL checkride 2/24, and will be starting instrument very soon. I hope to get a taste of backcountry flying someday. I am sure I speak for a lot of people when I say “Thank You” for everything you do for the aviation community. You are a true ambassador. Keep up the amazing work. Safe skies my friend. 🇺🇸🛩️
Mike is the kind of person we neeed in every aspect of our lives, a genuine, thoughtful, kind, wholesome etc kinda guy that makes you wonna do and be a better person yourself.
Thanks Mike. When the Draco build was happening I shared the video link with my nephew. He is now mountain flying a C185 down here in the south island with us. It really inspired him. Greg & Jenny NZQN.
So glad you’re back and taking time to share your experiences with us!! I remember discovering your channel after your second video on Draco. That was a blast watching the whole series. You’re an inspiration and a true renaissance man!! I always also think what a wonderful wife and family you have. Having that bedrock to support you gives you tremendous energy and focus! Looking forward to watching more “Back to work!”!
As I said on Instagram where I sent you a PM, Mike you are a source of inspiration for all aviation enthusiasts, one of the greats. I hope to be able to go to Oshkosh one day, a dream I have yet to fulfill. Thank you for everything you do and will do, take care of your family and yourself and looking forward to seeing what the future holds. Regards from Spain
another great recap video and break down of the amazing DRACO build. The original build video was so capitvating and an amazing engineering feat. We cant wait to see DRACO X and waiting with baited breath to see if it will have the expandable wing like scrappy and even more stuff. stay healthy and keep flying safe
Hello Mike, from Paraguay, Central South America, your final words are encouraging and inspiring. I hope to see Greco flying and dancing in the sky soon. The passion for flying is the same as the spark we need to have in life.
Geez Mike!! You are one of a kind. Totally mind blowing, wonderful stuff. Thank you for sharing! The first time I saw you back Draco into the hanger my jaw was in my lap. Yikes! Be safe amigo.
This is going to be awesome to watch! I passionately waited for the next build video and will love seeing the footage that did not make it into the build vids. Thanks Mike for all you do for aviation!
Mike, more, more, more please. I miss watching you over your shoulder fabricating on your planes. I too old to do now. I used to do all this. Love MUCH to watch. I retired A&P since 1974 and airplane nut my whole life. I have homebuilt flew for years and years and can't get into anymore. Your all I got left till home with Jesus. Moses
Mike, you are one of those Very rare guys who reminds the rest of us just how much time we waste, and how little of what God gave us, we actually tap in to. Thank you for sharing all of it as you convert dreams to reality. If I was asked, what person would you most like to meet, I think it would be you. Thanks.
Hey Mike....thank you ! Watching the build and flying....inspired me to make a change and whilel I ain't building a Draco YET....I am rebuilding a Kolb. Back to Work !
@9:30 I don't think it is possible to put a price on Mike's time. I love you buddy, thank you for sharing so much with us, you've never made a bad video and I enjoy watching all that you do! Shoutout to Ron and all of Mike's friends and family that share their time with us, too!

A great attribute about Mike is his ability to explain his passion so well. I enjoy watching these videos because of it.
10:45 Those are our two boys! They were showing off the Draco tattoos you put on their arm at Oshkosh. 😊
Draco is a rock star.I’m excited to see the reincarnation of one of the coolest planes ever to fly.

Merci Mike pour tes vidéos !

And so the next adventure begins! Can't wait!!! Happy Thanksgiving Mike, enjoy your family, nothing is more important.
Yay! Airplane vids are back. We like it! Hey Mikey!
Cannot express how stoked I am for every video that comes out. And all to come. Thanks for being an amazing role model Mike.
I'm still waiting to see what Scrappy can do. I watched all the build videos at least 3 times. The innovations, esp the wing design, were very compelling

So glad Mike is starting this next Draco project. Can't wait to see it all.
Also Mike! Huge props to the production teamm. Mic, main and fill lights. It’s appreciated!
Thanks Mike for giving credit to Ron. He did a lot of work on all of your aircraft. He is a good man.
Without Ron…….many projects would still be in the planning stage, his skills have moved the process incredibly!
I loved Draco as we all did and can only imagine the pain of losing him. You said it was like hanging on the propeller because it pretty much was!
Mike Patey exemplifies what the world could be if it was run by the engineers. It's a world that I want to live in.
I’m so happy your videos are back thank you 🙏

Mike, more, more, more please. I miss watching you over your shoulder fabricating on your planes. I too old to do now. I used to do all this. Love MUCH to watch. I retired A&P since 1974 and airplane nut my whole life. I have homebuilt flew for years and years and can't get into anymore. Your all I got left till home with Jesus. Moses
Looking forward to seeing Draco X…. Keep up the great work.
The Draco X is in the new Microsoft flight simulator. I flew it this morning and it's great fun!
