    We're currently on a 5-year trip in a Grenadier across the world towing a Patriot X3, which we live in. If you're watching this review, it may be of interest. We set off from London in mid-July 2023 with our two young kids and we’re approaching 50000km. At least 70% of our journey has been off-road...

    For those not familiar with the vehicle specs, and worried about rear seat legroom, he has ordered a version that move the rear seats forward to get more load space. This also exposes the glue lines in the rear. If you order the normal version the rear seat Is further back and the rear legroom is quite decent.

    • @kmg3144

      Which option is it that moves the rear seat forward?

      So this is a commercial version? If so then I'm reassured because I was surprised with lack space behind 6ft driver position.

      Me too, I've been following the Grenadier since day 1, it looks nice and robust but there is no price tag in the USA yet. I still drive a 2016 LR4 (Disco4) Supercharged, Luxury, it has 81500 miles or 131161 Km. and I get 17.6 miles/gallon or 7.39 Km/liter. My average speed is 83 MPH (133 KMH) It still runs like new and it looks new as well. The price will be the turning point for me to get a new Grenadier.

  • @JeremyEdwards996
    @JeremyEdwards996 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    I have the same N1(van) model; the rear seats are about 7.5cm further forwards than the M1(car), but for 6' me and 5' 4" wife, the seats are not an issue. The Grenadier is a vast improvement on a 1989 LR110CSW, even some minor electronic gremlins have not dampened my spirits. On longer journeys, it has proved to be a big comfy truck, with the mpg slowly improving from 22.7mpg to 24.3mpg as it loosens up.

    Thanks for the video and your initial thoughts. As others have said, a better microphone (wireless lapel mic), and not filming near busy roads would helpful as is was very difficult at times to hear and understand you. I had one on order, here in Australia but I unfortunately had to cancel after I had opportunity to sit in one. I am 6ft tall but more solid build than you and that driving position was not comfortable for me. We drive long distances here in Australia and I could foresee pain, as my left leg was jammed between the center console and the wheel and accelerator was askew. Later in the video, we see you driving and I must say that is not the seating position I adopt - you clearly like sitting right back from the wheel and reaching/leaning forward to drive (may also explain the compromised space behind you), unless it’s just camera angle. My take away is that the driving position, especially for RHD vehicles is indeed compromised but it will suit some body shapes/driving styles better than others. FYI, not sure why you purposely selected the BFG’s option (other than you say they look "cool"), as they are great off-road but their on-road performance is not as good and in the wet they can get scary.

    • @jerrymyahzcat

      Looking cool is NOT a reason to choose a certain tyre.

    • @QnA22

      His steering position seems correct? Steering wheel at arms length with a bit of flex. OK, the way he steers is outright dangerous and irresponsible with the one hand cornering and keeping only one hand at 12 o clock, but that may have been done for filming purposes only.

    • @stuartpalmer3404
      @stuartpalmer3404 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree, the audio was poor. However, a lapel mic is not necessarily an improvement. They can be very susceptible to wind noise as well. If it was me, the first step would be having the camera person listening to the audio, they are recording, and then taking appropriate action.

    The centre console in the middle would make it uncomfortable for the middle passenger too I’m assuming?

Have yet to see one in the flesh on the roads here in Northern Ireland and no big advertising here about who is selling them. I am 6’ 4 and test drove the petrol version which I seriously enjoyed. One thing to watch out for is the adjustability of the side mirrors which does not have a sufficiently wide range. So I found myself leaning into the mirrors while driving to catch everything I wanted to see. This is particularly noticeable when you merge onto a motorway. I also found the center display touch response lacking and fiddly to operate and to have the volume button for the tinny sounding stereo system stuck behind the gear leaver is irritating. The buttons all look more industrial than they feel. But overall, driving, seats etc. all felt great. Loved the overhead windows. They give the cabin a nice airy feel. Not an inner city car though. It likes a bit of room.

      @@damienmorris2903 there is no debate that cup holders do not make a great off-roader. The challenge comes when you have a partner that is assessing the minimum feature set. For my needs the vehicle is near perfect with the primary concern being that, while the parts are proven, the collective of them working together in a new vehicle still need proving. I am campaigning to my better half that we are better off without certain features other vehicles have, but since the vehicle is not here for me to see it, I have to poll those whom have it.

      @@kmg3144 Agreed. Time will tell. In Australia resale value after 6 or 7 years is one of the best indicators of reliability and durability. I think that they will sell reasonably well here to well off people who generally don't do much off road work but want something different - and don't care about resale value. Cup holders, acceleration, top speed, cornering, home comforts, electronics galore etc are important to them but of course when you are in the really rough stuff are completely useless.

    It looks a fantastic vehicle. Were you in the Cambridge area last Sunday morning ?. I was passed by one on the A14 (First one I've seen) whilst I was in my bright blue Jimny JB74 :-)

    Looks like a solid, practical, capable 4X4 aimed at the many loyal Land Rover enthusiasts who are disillusioned by LR’s departure from the classic rugged, angular character of the old Defender. For those who are in the market for a solid, capable 4X4 who do not adhere particularly to the traditional LR image, consider this… what kind of late model, low mileage, high spec Toyota Land Cruiser, with its proven pedigree and track record for reliability and durability, and for holding its value, could you get for £60,000? In three years time, they may well have reached parity for resale value.

    Worst thing to do is to buy a new model car of any brand but this is not gest e new model is a new brand and you have to live with the consequences . Best thing to do is to wait at least one to two years until the company will fix all the production issues and to see the reviews done by auto jurnalists . Good luck and I hope you will enjoy your new toy for a long time !

    23 miles per gallon makes it slightly absurd given it's a diesel. It's not even a cost thing, it's a range thing.

    I have ordered one in Melbourne australia. I have tried to change specs and ineos keep writing to say the order is cancelled. It’s beyond comprehension how bad trying to deal with ineos is. The l’iCal representative is a total waste of space. All I want to do is change the colour on my contract.

    I think some of your criticism is valid if comparing to a Range Rover. However, it is an unabashed 4x4. This should be compared directly to old Defender and Japanese pickups, which have taken over from Defender by country folk. They have addressed the problems encountered by people needing an offroader, inside and out. Can't wait for mine. Nice wheels, perfect for British roads!

Try a fuel can which fits in spare. Did you purchase Grenadier for purpose or road use?????. Steering is box and drop link not rack.. If you owner or own a JLR you bought the wrong car. It's a work horse not a tart!!!

    22 MPG for the diesel, is not sustainable in this current climate! Many compromises, no folding seats, rear legroom etc, etc. Pleased to have discovered your channel, will check out in more detail, Cheers. PS so is it more capable than the latest Defender, I honestly doubt it and economy is worse than the Defender. I appreciate the Defender has its own issues with reliability, build quality, etc!

    I really wanted to watch your video as it seemed that you had important feedback to share about this vehicle, but your choice of location right by the road-side, and the lack of a proper mic with all that wind noise was too much to handle. I had to leave after two minutes of trying to watch. Please do something about getting a proper mic or at least cleaning up the noise in your post production editing - if possible. Thank you

    I was falling in love with this vehicle and just about prepared to buy one until you made aware the leg space in the rear. Got me thinking now so, will have to reconsider if it’s actually a luxury I would consider being without and at this stage, rear passenger comfort should be a given.
