  • In this episode of TRT the podcast I cover a very influential horse I've had in my life: El Segundo.
It's interesting to look back into specific moments and horses in my life and reflect with the information and perspectives I have now.
Which reveals clearly certain beliefs and inspirations that serve me now in my journey with horses.
I share some important times in my life back in Australia and people that have helped and influenced me along the way.
I talk about the culture of horse racing in Australia and introduce you to a horseman that has produced many champions in the heart of Melbourne for more than 7 decades.
One of which I was blessed to have the opportunity to work with.

Thank you Tristan, love hearing your journey but this is so special. I will be sharing and I hope many animal lovers enjoy. It is Sunday in Adelaide and it has made my day. I started watching TRT at the beginning of lock down and just love it. I am old and still riding & thanks to lock down Googled horse Stuff, you never stop learning as every horse is a teacher. Tristan keep up the amazing work.

Hi Tristan, I have so enjoyed your first two podcasts! I am from South Africa, and rode horses for a lot of my life, but no with the level of awareness and consciousness about the horse's emotions.
I am also a midwife who was guided to work with birthing women similarly to the way you work with horses, by empowering women to be their own best midwife. Thank you for reminding of the many birthing mothers who inspired my journey and the beautiful babies born as a result!
Blessings on you continuing journey with horses and their owners!!!

OMG.. it’s Sunday morning here in Pearcedale victoria. I just sat back and listened to your story. The joy I experienced listening to your life’s experience, in my own back yard actually made me laugh and cry. Thoroughly enjoyed that hour to the start of my Sunday. Thanks Tristan. It was Awesome 😂❤

I can feel your open heart, thank you for sharing. El Segundo was one of a kind horse. I got a story like that but the horse was a young eventing horse and it was my neighbour/ my trainer horse. I was riding ponies at that time and this horse was a big black mare around 4-5 years old. I was so tiny so I could hardly look over her head when we were jumping. Most of the times I couldnt see the jumps. I didnt say anything to the owner because I know I was so lucky to ride this beautiful horse. I felt oneness with that horse. She gave me her hole heart, such a pure spirit. I remeber that like it was yesterday and when I visit my neighbour we still talking about that horse.

I've had this exact same experience. A TB I was given to ride. Me just a pony clubber at the time. The ex race horse turned pony horse turned Pony Club horse. Taught me that very same thing. We are alone on a Ranch on a Saturday afternoon. enjoying just a ride out along a bit of a track in the hayfield. Peacefully just being together. From a trot to a gentle canter, to a bit more and I can remember me asking for a bit more and it was like he said "you sure?' and I said yup lets go. The next level gear I had no idea about he showed me. He dropped and flattened, the power, the force truly incredible. It was the same for me, he ran and slowly came back, we trotted and walked and walked back to the stable very much bonded. He showed me. I was always grateful for that. There was peace and true delight in those moments. I think he thanked me too, for understanding his need to be heard and witness his gift as well.

This was told so exactly how it happened to me. The horse does take you to this and gives this experience to you and it is like nothing else. Explained perfectly! This was awesome to watch.

This is so cool man. Horses are so cool and the human connection is also natural and we've learned to get away from it. I feel like your methods about energy transfer is the best way to understand animals. That surreal experience is what everyone should thrive for.

You Mentioned at some point El Segundo has a huge heart (as later it was found ). Famous Secretariat, ins the USA , also had a huge heart which explained why he could into a 6th gear and hold it for so much longer . Phenomenal stuff .

Thanks for these podcasts Tristan but I’m afraid I am one of the growing number of Aussies who do not support the racing industry. So much harm done to horses in the name of racing. Such a world away from your superb skills with horses today helping them to find relaxation and trust in a human environment.

I just wish to know how this horse is doing nowadays. If he is still alive and retired
