I like that new designs don't need an additional box spring. In my experience, a box spring just ends up being an extra cat scratching post.

We don't have a box spring because we have a slatted platform bed frame. I actually like it without a box spring, especially when we moved frequently - one less big item to worry. This video confirmed that I don't need a box spring. Good questions and great answers! Thank you!

I only use a platform bed frame so i know that i dont need a box spring based on the info from the manufacturer of the mattress and since most mattresses have support built in. I just made sure that i bought a tall platform so i didnt have to drop into bed. This was great information :) thanks for another educational video

Can you still use a box spring on something like a nectar mattress? I LOVE my bed frame however it needs a box spring that I already have. I don’t want to have to buy a platform bed for it because I haven’t find any that I like, I just want the bed frame that I already have. I jut ordered a nectar mattress.

This is such an interesting topic. Great info, Cody. I have always hated the slats across the bed rails that go underneath the boxspring and platform beds make more sense. But, I love having a bed high off the floor. I actually had a pet ramp for my lab to use to get on my high bed w/out having to leap onto the bed on her own power. I can see how manufacturers want their foam mattresses on the floor or a solid platform and not on a box spring mattress.

I have a plain metal frame and I have a box spring of course. But it also is a bit thicker than the ones I have had in the past, so it's a bit taller, which is great for me because I am on the taller side.

I have a metal frame that just has some of the medal going across. Not across and vertical. Can I get away with not using a box sprint? Every mattress I want that’s nice is at least 11 inches in height. If I was to get one it would be way too tall! And I don’t feel like getting a whole new bed frame since the one I have is nice.

Nice video - I use a Box Spring for the extra height. I am so used to it, that the last time I slept on a bed without one;it was really off putting and did not lend to a good night's sleep. You are 100% right about having a Box Spring elevating you further from the floor for being cleaner and healthier for the user (especially if there are furry pets in the home). I hope that everyone in SLEEPOPOLISLAND is happy, healthy and safe. Take care.

Thanks for the information. In my opinion, a box spring is great for height variance and ease of getting in and out of the bed and the longevity of a mattress. As the cost of a mattress has increased, the cost and investment should be protected, for better sleep.

  • @izzyisfitt

With how big modern mattresses are a mattress + box spring + frame would be crazy tall. My dog would never be able to jump up and idk if I'd count that as a positive or a negative :P

Good information on box springs. I wouldn't have thought about how box springs can be the reason they voided a warranty until I looked into this more. I do like the height the box springs give a hybrid bed though. Makes it a bit hard to climb in, but the height makes me feel more luxurious, that's just me though.
