    I fixed the night time blurring issue! - th-cam.com/video/o28DmZNTJ0U/w-d-xo.html

      @TwoWheelsandahammock ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, have you managed to finetune the daytime settings to reduce the blur, curious as iv'e just ordered one. Thanks

  • @ArvidsBaranovs
    @ArvidsBaranovs ปีที่แล้ว +77

    The blur is caused by digital stabilization. This is the same case with GoPro and similar cameras if used at “slow” shutterspeed (at night or with ND filters). The image at those shutterspeeds is naturaly blurry when the camera moves. The stabilization stabilizes the image, but the blur remains as it is “baked in” the image. The same happens if you try to stabilize footage shot at slower shutterspeeds in post (eg. with warp stabilizer in Adobe tools). As a rule of thumb - turn off stabilization for these use cases. This cannot be fixed by some firmware update. This is basic videography knowledge.

    • @MotoFeelz
      @MotoFeelz  ปีที่แล้ว +19

      Interesting! I’ll try without stabilization next and see what the outcome is. Guess I skipped the basic videography lesson 😂

    • @Dipscovery
      @Dipscovery ปีที่แล้ว +3

      ^^ This is correct, i had the same issue when using ND filters/Slow Shutter speeds and digital stabilisation on my Insta360 One RS - Looks so much sharper and nicer without digital stabilisation. So is a trade off.

    • @iancarry
      @iancarry ปีที่แล้ว

      yes.. the thing is... with low shutter speeds, there remains very little time in between the frames for processor to match tracking points in the two frames ...
      rocksteady works best without ND's and with higher shutter speeds ... sadly..

    • @ArvidsBaranovs
      @ArvidsBaranovs ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@iancarry another thing is motion blur that is an inevitable side effect of slow shutter speeds and is baked-in the image. Even if digital tools manage to stabilize the image you end up with a stable, but blurry image. Which is what we're seeing here. The only way to combat this would be mechanical (moving sensor) or optical (moving glass) stabilization, but that ain't happening on action cams, because intricate moving parts don't play well with vibrations (I myself have destroyed an iPhone without vibration dampener and a Sony IBIS system while riding off-road with camera in a tail bag).

    • @philsgarage64
      @philsgarage64 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Completely agree. Stabilisation needs much higher shutter speed to be efficient. If I want stab & manual setting with this camera (and any other of this type) I multiply the frame rate by at least 4 (if not 8) depending on the shakes I expect; so at 25ips I would set the speed at 100 or 200 (on my bike 200 is minimum to get stable)

    The problem with the BOYA adapter and a lot of the small adapters is they are essentially a tiny sound card. They take your analog mic signal run it through a tiny sound chip ADC (analaog to digital converter) because of course the other end USB C is digital. DJI really screwed the pooch here they should have just included a good 24bit ADC and 3.5mm jack on the camera because it is the one thing that really is a big disappointment on an otherwise great action camera. In the case of these cheap Chinese adapters I suspect it's a garbage 8 bit mono ADC. I was able to get it to stop clipping by sticking the whole lavaliere mic UNDER the cheek pad. This stops it from clipping. However, it's still not great audio. It's kinda telephone quality. I am experimenting with a real solution to this issue using another adapter that has a great ADC. However, I am not sure it will work yet. If it does it could be a game changer as it only costs 10 usd and has a 24 bit 192khz ADC which is about as good as it gets. Same form factor as the BOYA. I should find out tomorrow if it works if so I will make a video on my channel about it.

    hey! i use the action 3 on my bike. i love the battery life and the mounting system over gopro. what i dont like like you is that the rocksteady simply dont work with slow shutter speed. i think i will use it without ND filters and set in auto shutter. For the mic i found the huawei earphones for smartphone (usb c) works very well, i cut off the "ear" part and use only the mic section and i think it sound ok, i keep the gain at 0 with that, you can give it a try if you want they are very cheap online or in store. Great video thank you! 👍

    I am doing the same rabbit hole research as you for a go helmet mic. Sorry the Dji mic still sounds like crap. I run in extreme cold and don’t really think the 5hr battery would last about 2hrs in the cold. I am so frustrated with egg OA3 - I have tried everything. Now the OA3 is just an overpriced pocket cam.

    Doesn't adding the DJI mic make the camera non waterproof? So if you get caught in a rain storm you'd have to remove the mic and thus would lose your audio right?

    Hero 7 Black mounted on handlebars has been shutting down in the heat and sometimes says "repairing" but that really means, lost my footage. No helmet so lean forward to talk to the camera and that sounds bad. What would be a good mic setup for that? I use a sound sponge on Hero and the audio still sucks. How would that sound on Action 3. I can not find any for sale right now.

    I know the dji mic is a little bigger than the competition and when attached to the insta360 x3 as it's mic. The mic is in frame with the camera. But the competition is not in frame. That's the only down fall I can mention. The dji mic has great range and its prefect for what you do.

    Hi guys, I can confirm the inline volume knob works as an attenuator. The search term I used was "3.5mm male to female adapter extension cable with volume control" (2 USD equiv in the Philippines). I set the volume on the knob all the way up and tape it in place to make sure it doesn't move by accident. My gain is set at -6 on the Action 3 and the audio sounds just right. That sits between the mic and the Boya BY-K4 USB-C to TRS adapter. Sounds pretty good on my setup with a cheap, no name lavalier.

Cardo would keep having breaking up sounds.

    This is the one thing that is killing the DJI Action 3 for me, I want to want this camera but the fact they haven't got a Media mod style setup like the Gopro is just criminal.
    The DJI mic is crazy money on top of the unit (regardless of how good it is) and when you're riding offroad I don't want to be worrying about if the adapter is still in the camera or having a chunky receiver in the helmet when im sweating 🤣..

    For god sake, video with ND and rocksteady ON is look like CRAP! The issue with "jello" is even bigger than on GP10.
    The best things in OA3 are mount and battery life, as a second cam it might be OK. But the voice record is bigger hemorrhoid than on a GP...

    The cinema aesthetic of a 180 degree shutter angle simply can't work for digitally stabilised vision. So technological limits drive a shift in culture - Fast shutter speed vision is now a very popular aesthetic - it's the action cam look!
    However, give it about a month from when I've posted this and Topaz or somebody will have an AI video tool to create a 180 shutter angle from any action video clip. ;-)

    The problem with that external mic setup is you need to mind/operate 2 device which is a pain in the ass, your boya having garbage sound it's because you might plug a TRRS mic direct on it, find a TRRS to TRS adaptor then plug it to your BoYA adapter might solve your issue.

    For motovlogging, GoPro is best! I bet you won't be removing GoPro from your helmet and replacing it with DJI.
    I was so excited with dji action cam, i bought one. Garbage audio and poor video quality or you say i didn't like the view or colors or night mode, go pro is better.
    .
    .
    I spend almost week or so to figure out the audio fix, fortunately it's simple. Just use USB type c to 3.5 audio jack connector directly into camera. And now insert helmet mic into 3.5mm audio jack connector.
    DB settings '0'
    .
    .
    I have used boya adapter too, it's worst. Simple 3.5mm audio from any brand works better.
    .
    .
    Also, but still DJI Action 3 will not give you better audio than media mod from go pro, or go pro mic adapter. Period.
    .
    .
    And only idiots will use that wireless setup for motovlogging. Pricey & not practical.

    • @MotoFeelz
      @MotoFeelz  ปีที่แล้ว

    • @HELMETDUDE
      @HELMETDUDE ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MotoFeelz if someone is mostly end up doing less of talking inside helmet and more of dslr shots, more of just bike different angle shots, like you do, then yes, it might be useful to you. But not with someone who buys this camera from his own money. And after spending huge money on that wireless mic, you better do it 😂
      .
      .
      Anyhow lucky you that you got things for free, but fact is fact. This camera is more suitable for action, adventure and sports related activities, and not audio friendly.

    I have a small vlogging channel, and unfortunately I have a low budget. I have been looking to upgrade my current camera. I run an old SJCam SJ6 Legend, shooting in 2.5k which in my opinion does a brilliant job for the low cost. The only reason for me wanting to upgrade, is the image stabilisation. It just can’t compete with modern camera’s like the Osmo 3. Although being on a low budget, I do realise that I will have to “Splash the Cash” to get a decent upgrade, so I am saving up as we speak 🙄. I have been watching all the videos on the Osmo 3 that I can find. I have also watched the offerings from “Wheelie Good”, and “MotoUK”. I thoroughly enjoyed this video, and have subscribed in readiness for your upcoming reviews. Cheers

    blur is caused by ND , action cam combined with low shutter and stabilizer cause that. it needs 1/320 approx +

    Today is a new firmware from Dji available. I am wondering what it will improve. I like your videos. I found a very good and cheap microphone solution. Imam using an USB samsung headphone. It sounds great and clips not the amplitude.

    For the boya adapter, what was the gain on the camera? I bought a little adapter for volume, it sounded gpod at low speeds, but high speeds it got pretty bad. I had the boya at around 70% volume and gain on camera at -6

    I have the dreaded 9/22 realese date camera instead of returning it i kept it . I know this camera well and theres nothing wrong it . Its sharp enough for a action camera and like most its not a low light moster . I wouldnt push it past 800 iso . With lower shutter speeds rocksteady will not work and dji states that. I would recomend a gimbal in low light settings. Also enchanced image qaulity increases bit rate when turned on use that whenever possible but uses more battery. The camera still has a excellent battery. Most of these ppl complaining do not know how to really create anything even if the camera was perfect. There was also a film on the lens of my camera i would also recomend cleaning the lens with alcohol and a swabb..

    I haven't used the gen 2 or 3 models, but have been using the Action since it came out in 2019. Never have had an issues or missed any shots because of it. The blurriness at night or if you use ND filters is a bummer. I had bought some Polar Pro ND filters when I first got the action. I guess Rocksteady works but adjusting the shutter speed, so when you use a ND filter or film at night/dark locations you get the blurry movement. I just stopped using the filters and turn Rocksteady off if filming at night.

      Yea this is something I’m learning. I’m still adamant to make it work with ND filters. Let’s see

    I don’t even care about the little details I j want an alternative to GoPro and the cam quality on the DJI is plenty for my uses plus I already have 2 of their drones so I know they’re capable of quality products and great service.

    What mic did you use for boya setup?

    can you make a review for gopro 7 and 9 for 2023 if is still a good buy? especially for motovlogging purposes and vlogging. most are not interested with the 5k and othe feauture. the stabilization with gp7 is already enough. but the extra screen on the front is also nice to have. skipping gp8 due to no nd filters

    I like the fact that the blurriness issue he was having when looking left and right was totally glossed over. I kept seeing it throughout the video and it didn’t “still look good” as it was stated. I would had thought more emphasis would had been put on that issue since you know…it’s a video camera other than oh well, as long as it still looks good (it didn’t). Then towards the end he states “are going to give the flick to GoPro because this is so much better”.

    I have seen a video where instead od doing the 180 rule and having double the shutterspeed of the framerate, it's better to make ti 4 times the fps. Have you tried that with the ND 16? I assume it might get too dark maybe? but then you can just slap ND 8 instead of 16.

    Once the microphone receiver is attached is the OA still water proof if it starts to rain?? And how tight is it connected? As in is there a concern if dirt biking that it could come off the OA due to the bumps and movement?

    For me, acting absurd is to use 25 frames per second in sports cameras, because the action of sports camera with the original other and not to create a cinematic video. There is a sensor that is not even one inch, so it is not equipment for cinema recordings, but for sports. That's why it annoys me so much when reviewers forget about people who want to record in 50 frames or more and review the main ones in 25fps.

    Great review, the magnetic clip is something that really got me for moto vlogs! Shot from FPV - click - shot from the handlebar - awesome. I got the same combo Osmo 3 + DJI Mic, also added insta 360x3. Can't wait to go out and do some videos! Thank you for the fee LUT, will be considering the other pack as well! Cheers for sharing settings

    Thanks for the review! Buying a Action 3 for a norway tour this summer.
    Also wanted to say i found another wireless mic with a reciever that is able to pair to the action 3, it's called "Lark C1".
    I don't know if it is as good with gain adjustments or suitable for motovlogging, but it is quite a bit less expensive.
    I might try it, but more than likely i will try to get a wired setup working to keep the cost down.

    This is the setup i've been thinking about getting.
    Only issue, I don't have any money... haha.
    It would be great if they could integrate the mic reciever into the camera it's self. I know that is asking alot, But maybe one day.
    I like that, if you only have the one camera, you can also place the camera in other locations and still get in-helmet audio.
