yes.. the thing is... with low shutter speeds, there remains very little time in between the frames for processor to match tracking points in the two frames ... rocksteady works best without ND's and with higher shutter speeds ... sadly..
@@iancarry another thing is motion blur that is an inevitable side effect of slow shutter speeds and is baked-in the image. Even if digital tools manage to stabilize the image you end up with a stable, but blurry image. Which is what we're seeing here. The only way to combat this would be mechanical (moving sensor) or optical (moving glass) stabilization, but that ain't happening on action cams, because intricate moving parts don't play well with vibrations (I myself have destroyed an iPhone without vibration dampener and a Sony IBIS system while riding off-road with camera in a tail bag).
Completely agree. Stabilisation needs much higher shutter speed to be efficient. If I want stab & manual setting with this camera (and any other of this type) I multiply the frame rate by at least 4 (if not 8) depending on the shakes I expect; so at 25ips I would set the speed at 100 or 200 (on my bike 200 is minimum to get stable)
Hi guys, I can confirm the inline volume knob works as an attenuator. The search term I used was "3.5mm male to female adapter extension cable with volume control" (2 USD equiv in the Philippines). I set the volume on the knob all the way up and tape it in place to make sure it doesn't move by accident. My gain is set at -6 on the Action 3 and the audio sounds just right. That sits between the mic and the Boya BY-K4 USB-C to TRS adapter. Sounds pretty good on my setup with a cheap, no name lavalier.
What ND filter would you say you use the most? The 16? I am torn between the set of 5 for $40 or purchasing the single 16 and the single 8 at $19 each but they come with little cases that seem to be more protective. Thanks for all the info!
I think the blurring thing is stabilisation struggling to work with low shutter speeds. It happens with the hero 8 too remember? Try turning the stabilisation to a lower effect and maybe even off? Try it out and let us know how it goes!
Where do place the wired lav in the helmet, I usually placed it very close to my ear in the recess area, this way it will block much of the wind noise also I will use dead cat for the mic.
if you want to motovlog with the dji mic AND vertical, you need a seperate cage that leaves the left side open to connect the mic. alternatively you can use a cable.
I’m a new user to the action 3 (not to mention a new rider at 68). Recently installed a Cardo communication system into my helmet. Any way I can use the Cardo mic for the audio on my action 3?? Suggestions on THIS, as well as basic vlogging skills overall would be greatly appreciated. Thx
Once the microphone receiver is attached is the OA still water proof if it starts to rain?? And how tight is it connected? As in is there a concern if dirt biking that it could come off the OA due to the bumps and movement?

I've experiencing the same blurry issue on my OA3. I returned my unit on the store and said will handover to their HQ to rectify. It's a great action camera however DJI should fix the issues most of their unit were facing.
I have seen a video where instead od doing the 180 rule and having double the shutterspeed of the framerate, it's better to make ti 4 times the fps. Have you tried that with the ND 16? I assume it might get too dark maybe? but then you can just slap ND 8 instead of 16.
The problem with the BOYA adapter and a lot of the small adapters is they are essentially a tiny sound card. They take your analog mic signal run it through a tiny sound chip ADC (analaog to digital converter) because of course the other end USB C is digital. DJI really screwed the pooch here they should have just included a good 24bit ADC and 3.5mm jack on the camera because it is the one thing that really is a big disappointment on an otherwise great action camera. In the case of these cheap Chinese adapters I suspect it's a garbage 8 bit mono ADC. I was able to get it to stop clipping by sticking the whole lavaliere mic UNDER the cheek pad. This stops it from clipping. However, it's still not great audio. It's kinda telephone quality. I am experimenting with a real solution to this issue using another adapter that has a great ADC. However, I am not sure it will work yet. If it does it could be a game changer as it only costs 10 usd and has a 24 bit 192khz ADC which is about as good as it gets. Same form factor as the BOYA. I should find out tomorrow if it works if so I will make a video on my channel about it.

For the boya adapter, what was the gain on the camera? I bought a little adapter for volume, it sounded gpod at low speeds, but high speeds it got pretty bad. I had the boya at around 70% volume and gain on camera at -6
When riding, it dosent seem safe to have the mic reciever only connected by the USBC, is there a solution or something i missed? is there also a recommended cage or just use the one it comes with?
Doesn't adding the DJI mic make the camera non waterproof? So if you get caught in a rain storm you'd have to remove the mic and thus would lose your audio right?

HI there 📣top review 📣... I have a camera for a short time but I have a question, is it normal for the camera to split the video during the recording time 🤔? for example, every 3 minutes, or it depends on the quality of the recording, but I know it shouldn't be because I have insta 360x3 and it doesn't split the video for ... thank you for every answer 😉👍🏻
Hello… congratulations on the video I really like the quality and content of your videos…. I wanted to ask you a question... how would the microphone turn on? that is, if you go on a trip with the motorcycle... when you turn on the camera to record... would they turn on and also record the microphones to pick up the audio???? Why does it record with a lapel microphone when turning on the camera (of course) but what about these??? I never had microphones like this and I have no knowledge of how they work?
Buying this and its enroute, only concern is why is the video so dark. Did u do it in post or it came out stock like this from the camera (11:04 mins) onwards?
Hi Moto Feelz, I am wondering if you also use Cardo Edge? I am currently encountering issue that DJI MIC Receiver is interfering with Cardo Edge, and when I turn on my Action 3 + DJI MIC to record video and sound, my Cardo Edge couldn't play music properly. Cardo would keep having breaking up sounds.
Fantastic video.. Question: when using a mic in the helmet and a mic in your backpack (for pipe noise) what are you settings on camera and receiver to be able to individually adjust volumes?
Gopro is overhyped.. i use osmo action(1st gen) n its works much better (no hanging issues, rocksteady is awesome, low light performance is much better than gopro, battry life is good too) n for exhaust audio.. i use zoom h1n that's it.. bang on
I like the fact that the blurriness issue he was having when looking left and right was totally glossed over. I kept seeing it throughout the video and it didn’t “still look good” as it was stated. I would had thought more emphasis would had been put on that issue since you know…it’s a video camera other than oh well, as long as it still looks good (it didn’t). Then towards the end he states “are going to give the flick to GoPro because this is so much better”.
Ready to give GoPro the flick! All thanks to you. Grab an Action 3 now or wait for the Action 4? That’s assuming @DJI is expected to release the 4. Asides: would you / do you miss the GPS and related telemetrics on the GoPros?
Been using quadlock since getting back into Motorbikes in 2020 initially just the quadlock and mirror mount, then quadlock on mirror mount with damper and charger, most recently upgraded phone so got the magnetic with new mounting system for the new bike and also brought a vent mount for the car which is fantastic (also with charger) I wonder if GoPro do the wireless mics? Can’t really afford to start splashing out on more cameras
Thx for the video. I am still strugling with audio......2 questions hope you can help me with: Will the DJI microphone work with the Osmo Action 1? And would 2 transmitters mean I could record audio of 2 riders? Hope you can answer!
Going forward, I'm definitely NOT buying any more GoPro products. I'm beyond fed-up of getting home only to find that there's no audio/picture frozen/fully charged battery dropping immediately to 80% etc etc etc. I just cannot rely on my Hero 8, while my Insta360 X2 never lets me down. Thanks for the video 👌🏻
This is the setup i've been thinking about getting. Only issue, I don't have any money... haha. It would be great if they could integrate the mic reciever into the camera it's self. I know that is asking alot, But maybe one day. I like that, if you only have the one camera, you can also place the camera in other locations and still get in-helmet audio.
Hi. Thank you for the great video. You haven't mentioned that if you use DJI mic it will be very easy to knock it down by mistake when you open the visor and it's not waterproof. Now , for you won't be that much of a problem, but for us, here in UK, it's a huge problem 😂. I'm going to try that cable. Thank you for the tip! Safe rides!
Today is a new firmware from Dji available. I am wondering what it will improve. I like your videos. I found a very good and cheap microphone solution. Imam using an USB samsung headphone. It sounds great and clips not the amplitude.
I have the dreaded 9/22 realese date camera instead of returning it i kept it . I know this camera well and theres nothing wrong it . Its sharp enough for a action camera and like most its not a low light moster . I wouldnt push it past 800 iso . With lower shutter speeds rocksteady will not work and dji states that. I would recomend a gimbal in low light settings. Also enchanced image qaulity increases bit rate when turned on use that whenever possible but uses more battery. The camera still has a excellent battery. Most of these ppl complaining do not know how to really create anything even if the camera was perfect. There was also a film on the lens of my camera i would also recomend cleaning the lens with alcohol and a swabb..
I think the blur problem is the same issue that gopro has with their stabilization. Gopro has this same issue in low light even when set to auto, and I would assume the osmo will have a similar issue in low light. In order to stabilize the footage it needs to have a higher shutter speed, so putting the ND filter on it simulates a low light situation and having the shutter locked makes the stabilization fall apart. Its almost impossible to achieve the 180degree rule with the stabilization on. Ive seen most people do what you did and go to 100 and it seems to solve the problem without too much negative affect on motion blur
@@MotoFeelz Having gone through your own 'Use these GoPro Settings for Motovlogging!' video I was able to eliminate/minimise the blurriness with an ND16 on using 50fps & 1/100 shutter speed. Gonna try disabling Rocksteady at 25 fps next!
I was waiting for someone to test the double dji mic for voice & engine sound recording ! Finally you did it ! And the sounds of the engine seems very good !
I have a small vlogging channel, and unfortunately I have a low budget. I have been looking to upgrade my current camera. I run an old SJCam SJ6 Legend, shooting in 2.5k which in my opinion does a brilliant job for the low cost. The only reason for me wanting to upgrade, is the image stabilisation. It just can’t compete with modern camera’s like the Osmo 3. Although being on a low budget, I do realise that I will have to “Splash the Cash” to get a decent upgrade, so I am saving up as we speak 🙄. I have been watching all the videos on the Osmo 3 that I can find. I have also watched the offerings from “Wheelie Good”, and “MotoUK”. I thoroughly enjoyed this video, and have subscribed in readiness for your upcoming reviews. Cheers
Thanks for the review! Buying a Action 3 for a norway tour this summer. Also wanted to say i found another wireless mic with a reciever that is able to pair to the action 3, it's called "Lark C1". I don't know if it is as good with gain adjustments or suitable for motovlogging, but it is quite a bit less expensive. I might try it, but more than likely i will try to get a wired setup working to keep the cost down.
I know the dji mic is a little bigger than the competition and when attached to the insta360 x3 as it's mic. The mic is in frame with the camera. But the competition is not in frame. That's the only down fall I can mention. The dji mic has great range and its prefect for what you do.
I don’t even care about the little details I j want an alternative to GoPro and the cam quality on the DJI is plenty for my uses plus I already have 2 of their drones so I know they’re capable of quality products and great service.
Tired of GoPro 10 for MTB riding videos. Wont switch on, or off, lost footage, takes 20 mins to turn on today, needed updating firmware again and again. Im fed up of gopro, always release new cameras instead of fixing old cameras. How is the stablisation on this compared to gp10?
First thought is, give the wired mic with USB-C to 3.5mm cable a go on its own, just in case all the distortion and clipping you had with the first one was a cable issue. Don't know why it would be, but hey, you never know. Second thought is, yes the DJI is good, but is it better than the GoPro or the Insta360? I'm left thinking, I know what it does, but I don't know which one I'd actually buy (remembering that not all of us have quite the same reach out ability as you). So if you fancy doing a comparison review, that'd be great. Final thought is that your quality of the production is getting better, and better, and better, and for that I thank you sir.
There are many comparisons on TH-cam. Basically the gopro footage looks better in almost every head to head. But also some people have issues with them freezing. And the battery life is worse. You can also get the gopro for similar price from their website with the annual subscription (which can be canceled immediately). So the cost difference isn't that much
I did - and the sound is still rubbish I’ve had too many issues with GoPro in the past and have completely lost faith in them. The insta360 is still a boss action camera and won’t be leaving my kit anytime soon. And thank you so much! Glad you’re enjoying them 🙏
Great review, the magnetic clip is something that really got me for moto vlogs! Shot from FPV - click - shot from the handlebar - awesome. I got the same combo Osmo 3 + DJI Mic, also added insta 360x3. Can't wait to go out and do some videos! Thank you for the fee LUT, will be considering the other pack as well! Cheers for sharing settings

blur is caused by ND , action cam combined with low shutter and stabilizer cause that. it needs 1/320 approx +

It's easy-to-use this way so you dont have a big file to download and you can pick whatever you like.
Aha OK thanks… but I did Seat the DJI for GoPro because it didn’work properly🙈
Have you tried the instamic?
unfortunately your discount code for Quadlock doesn't work for the US store
Hi Moto Feelz, I am wondering if you also use Cardo Edge? I am currently encountering issue that DJI MIC Receiver is interfering with Cardo Edge, and when I turn on my Action 3 + DJI MIC to record video and sound, my Cardo Edge couldn't play music properly. Cardo would keep having breaking up sounds.
It’s not weather sealed anymore if you use the dji mic.
Awesome. Yes the dji mic is really good.
Fantastic video.. Question: when using a mic in the helmet and a mic in your backpack (for pipe noise) what are you settings on camera and receiver to be able to individually adjust volumes?
Couldn’t you do the same thing with a rode wireless mic setup?
Gopro is overhyped.. i use osmo action(1st gen) n its works much better (no hanging issues, rocksteady is awesome, low light performance is much better than gopro, battry life is good too) n for exhaust audio.. i use zoom h1n that's it.. bang on
Love it!
Great review. Wondering what settings you have found best for day time recoding from a motorbike?
Ready to give GoPro the flick! All thanks to you. Grab an Action 3 now or wait for the Action 4? That’s assuming @DJI is expected to release the 4.
Asides: would you / do you miss the GPS and related telemetrics on the GoPros?
Nice video mate! What's the volume controller that you're using exactly? The audio of this camera its a nightmare inside my helmet 😢
Sharp very Sharp Brother love it
Anyone recommend a mic with the inline volume knob setup?
So with that adaptor the Purple Panda will work?
Been using quadlock since getting back into Motorbikes in 2020 initially just the quadlock and mirror mount, then quadlock on mirror mount with damper and charger, most recently upgraded phone so got the magnetic with new mounting system for the new bike and also brought a vent mount for the car which is fantastic (also with charger)
I wonder if GoPro do the wireless mics? Can’t really afford to start splashing out on more cameras
I’ll be testing it with all the action cameras 👊
Hey..big fan of your videos from India which mic did you plugged in when you used the inline volume controller with the Boya connector?
Sound is really a issue at Osmo Action. I have a Defender and try to record off road drives. That damn machine is not loud like it's recorded 😅
Safe rides!
Excelent video congrats 👏👏👏
Yea, agreed
@@MotoFeelz Having gone through your own 'Use these GoPro Settings for Motovlogging!' video I was able to eliminate/minimise the blurriness with an ND16 on using 50fps & 1/100 shutter speed. Gonna try disabling Rocksteady at 25 fps next!
I was waiting for someone to test the double dji mic for voice & engine sound recording ! Finally you did it ! And the sounds of the engine seems very good !
Yea it’s insanely good. And being able to adjust levels is amazing
well guess i'll be going with the drift xl camera.
Guess I’ll be researching what the heck a drift xl is
I have a small vlogging channel, and unfortunately I have a low budget.
Had to send mine back because of the focus issue. 11/22 date.
I know the dji mic is a little bigger than the competition and when attached to the insta360 x3 as it's mic. The mic is in frame with the camera. But the competition is not in frame. That's the only down fall I can mention. The dji mic has great range and its prefect for what you do.
the dji mic price is the same as that dji action 3 . what the ...
Best motovlog mic for dji action 3 under budget...plz rply coment from india
use apple type c to 3.5mm connector...with rode mic and voila you are ready to go
I don’t even care about the little details I j want an alternative to GoPro and the cam quality on the DJI is plenty for my uses plus I already have 2 of their drones so I know they’re capable of quality products and great service.
So the cost difference isn't that much
I did - and the sound is still rubbish
I’ve had too many issues with GoPro in the past and have completely lost faith in them. The insta360 is still a boss action camera and won’t be leaving my kit anytime soon.
And thank you so much! Glad you’re enjoying them 🙏
I use a Insta 360 X2 with the original Action as my helmet cam, the Action 3 is in the post👍. By the way I love Quadlock for my iPhone 12.
Well time to save up for both
Haha sorry not sorry
Great review, the magnetic clip is something that really got me for moto vlogs! Shot from FPV - click - shot from the handlebar - awesome. I got the same combo Osmo 3 + DJI Mic, also added insta 360x3. Can't wait to go out and do some videos! Thank you for the fee LUT, will be considering the other pack as well! Cheers for sharing settings
Bought a GoPro 11 but am hoping the Action 4 will have image quality on par with the GoPro. Then things might change.
Yea I’m hearing ya
Thanks for the great review! I think I found the perfect setup for me with these tips. 😊
