@@OffSheGoesADV You'll love it for sure, I've bought a 2nd Mic 2 as you only get 6 hours or so from the battery. DJI have certainly won me over! Love what you're doing Runa, really enjoying your adventure!
I may be confused. At 14:17 where is the wireless mic mounted to record this audio? Is your helmet fully closed with the mic outside the helmet in front? Or is that two transmitters recording with one outside the helmet and one inside?
Ive watched a few reviews/comparison videos on these action cams and I feel like this one so far has been the best with footage of exactly what I'll be doing with it. Love it!
Could be that you already answered... If you turn off the camera and after 30 min you turn it on again, do you have to pair the MIC2 once again or it is automatically done/paired? Thanks a lot. Overall a great video.
Thanks so much for this video, I’m looking for cycling camera and vlogging gear and stumbled across you on YT, this is a very interesting review, sounds like a great camera, I love the 60 secs ‘back track’ and the mic possibilities, now with the ‘Mic Mini’ maybe?, great stuff, thanks again.
I thought I'd made my decision... after watching your video, I'm 100% happy with my choice: DJI Action 4 Adventure Combo (currently £319). I'm unsure what audio I'll go with, but your wireless setup was inspiring 😊. Thank you for sharing x
Whau! What a great video! A fantastic review, good advice and instructions. Technically well founded while skipping insignificant details. Thank you very much!
Just picked up a Action 3 and DJI wireless mic and so far have been very impressed with the quality. Ive noticed alot of youtubers switching to DJI from Go Pro due to the constant issues
Dumped GoPro for DJI some months ago after nothing but issues. Also recently picked up the mic 2. The ability to link one transmitter to the camera is great, especially after the software update that allows you to disable the transmitter's auto turn off feature meaning now you can stop and start recording without being disconnected from the transmitter 👍
Good to hear. Can you connect 2 transmitters simultaneously to the action 4? Also what’s the transmitters battery list when powered on constantly thanks?
@Two_Wheel_Trips you can only connect one transmitter via Bluetooth to the action 4. If you want to use two you need to use the receiver. I got at least 6 hours out of the transmitter with it being constantly on.
Thank you for a great video. However I do have a question. You state you shoot at 4K 25FPS. I am curious as to why 25FPS and not something higher, particuarly when motorcycling. Is it becausse you want smaller files size, less emphasis on the background or does have to do with what works best for TH-cam? I am getting ready to ride Montenegro next week and want to capture the experience while on the bike. I appreciate in advance the comments you may have.
Many Motovloggers do this to show the action more like a real time. 60 FPS sometime makes the footage too smooth and it looks like you are on a bus or just walking around.
Currently I am using Osmo Action 3, just ordered the dji mic adapter to try out. My previous cam are two Gopro, but I am switching to Dji after countless freeze issue due overheating. With the OA3, no freeze so far… will upgrade to OA5 or 6 once available because I always will skip to the next series to get more value for money upgrade.
Just got me a Action 4, this helped me a lot, I went out on the bike today to get some footage to teach myself how it all works, I used your settings and it worked perfect. One question if I may....... what loop setting do you have it on? Next purchase for me will be a chin mount and a mic. Thanks in advance for any additional guidance.
Nice set up. I just bought the Action 4 as well based on your good footage. The thing I always wonder is how do you combine the footage of the two cameras. How do you find the right place on both camera where footage overlaps. I haven’t found a good way to do that. Could you explain a little bit?
Get the GPS Remote - no more fiddling with the camera button. Works a treat - been using it for a few weeks and it just works. Links the mic as well and wakes up the camera quickly. You could use that to turn on and off instead of the snapshot 👍
Thanks Runa. That was very good. You have a natural talent for presenting. I like how you lay out everything logically and have live backup or screen titles to explain what you are talking about. It's very obvious how much effort and thought has gone into your video and how focused you are to deliver quality, appropriate and concise information to your viewers, Kudos to you. I am not a vlogger, just a regular guy who likes to ride. I have a GoPro Hero Black 7 ... only because it was a gift from my son. Works fine for me. I use it with an aftermarket remote that I stick in the tank area so I can start and stop footage. I can vouch for it's durability. On a trip to BC the camera mount broke and fell off and slid down the road while I was doing about 120 KPH. I went back and picked up the camera thinking at least I'll salvage the SD card, but besides a few scratches on the case it's still working as well as ever 2 years on. I do have a question on a completely different, unrelated and personal note... You don't have to answer this if you don't want to... But I have to ask if you can tell us the story behind each of the tattoos we see 😊 Cheers Mark in Canada
Thank you very much, appreciate it! 😊 It's different making these kind of videos, all planned out! 😂 I started moto vlogging with two GoPro Hero 7 Black's! Good camera for a much lower price than these new cameras. Only issue was, they kept freezing up. In the middle or in between recording, it would just stop and no buttons working. I had to take out the batteries to restart the. This caused me a lot of frustration and even worse; lost footage. I did some research and realized this was a fairly normal issue with GoPro, even in the newer models. Which is why I changed for DJI in the first place 😊 I'm glad to hear yours is working well, I'm sure most of them do! For the tattoos, not a whole lot of stories behind them, I'm pretty impulsive 😂
Can you connect the receiver to the Osmo action so you can record with 2 mics simultaneously? And can the Osmo Action record vertical 9:16 format with a head or mouth mount? Thanks in advance for your reply.
Great informative video. I'm looking to start vlogging and have spent the last few hours watching videos on the Rode Wireless Pro and the DJI Mic 2 setups as I try to decide which to buy. One thing I really like about the Rode Pro kit over the DJI is that they use a locking 3.5mm TRS mic jack to ensure your mic can't get accidentally unplugged from the transmitter unit. This is a nice extra safety feature to prevent the transmitter from getting lost should something hit it and overcome the magnetic connection to whatever it's attached to as the locked in mic cord would act as a tether. That said, the DJI is $100 cheaper and provides comparable if not slightly better audio quality. I've already settled on going with DJI Action 4 cameras over the Ace Pro simply due to the lighter weight and longer battery life. My only previous experience with action cams comes from an old GoPro Hero 5 that I purchased 10-12 years ago. It still works and did what I needed it to do for non-moto stuff, but it leaves a LOT to be desired on the audio side of things.
Absolutely agree with your conclusion. I'm using the camera on the MTB and after using GoPros for a long time, the action 4 finally made me switch. Especially on the MTB the lighter camera (I mount it on the helmet) is essential. And the magnetic mount is just awesome! Switching between chestmount and helmet is easy as pie and you never mess up your camera angle anymore. Great review!
Thanks for this detailed review of the DJI, action cameras have come on a long way recently. As riding on road and off road can be hazardous, I’m keen to know how any damage is repaired? If you get a stone fly up and chip the lens, or if the camera fell off and landed face down, is this a replaceable part?, or is the whole camera finished?
Awesome video! I’m just a beginner, but I’d like to get into videoing - the sooner, the better, right? I have the same helmet as you - is there another way to mount the camera? This thing you use seems very large? Isn’t that a bit annoying?
Thank you for a superb informative vid'.. I have been seriously considering the DJI Osmo as a replacement for my old GoPro cameras. I ride old Espania every year for a month or so and this reveiw has definately given me the push to get this on my ride....Again. Thank you so much and ride safe.
I also use DJI. Currently an Osmo Action 3. I went with DJI mainly because of all the overheating issues that GoPro suffer from resulting in lost footage. I am struggling to find a mic to use with the action 3 in my helmet without spending top dollar, but I love the camera itself.
What a fantastic comprehensive informative review. I do really appreciate the production you have put together. I have been plagued recently with missing audio files from my GoPro and dji is now something that I’m seriously considering making the switch to.
OA4 & Mic 2 user here, love the set up but my only complaint is the Mic 2 timing out. The battery life is 6 hours so you should be able to disable to the auto power off feature. Also found sometimes when I power on the camera or quick capture it, it fails to connect to the Mic 2 which is still powered on.
Great review, thank you. I currently use the Action4 and Gopro. Agree with everything you said except the wide FOV Field of View. Wider takes away the detail in scenery. It flattens everthing and objects and people seem further from you than they appear with your eyes. Also magnifies your speed, makes you appear to be moving faster than you are. Other cameras such as Gopro can be setup with a more realistic field of View - What your eyes see
Great informative video. I did the switch last year to the Osmo Action 3. Thinking of going to the 4. Do the osmo 3 battery work on the 4? The audio set up for the 4 do you need to attach the receiver to the osmo 4 camera then run your transmitter in your helmet? Or can to just go Bluetooth direct from DJI mic 2 to Osmos action 4?
I recently purchased a DJI Osmo Action 4. I have been trying to record my 40-50mph rides on my electric scooter, but I only had my Samsung Note 8 phone to record with. The wind noise was horrible. Looking to buy the Mic2 as soon as I can afford it. I really like the wind reduction results you got.
So great DJI sent you two Osmo Action 4 to try out. Like I have mentioned before I bought two of them when they got released and I am really pleased with the quality, batterylife, how good it can handle really cold winter weather and much more. I had OA3 before and loved it, but OA4 have way better quality and it is also possible to adjust sharpness and noise reduction.
Great info and thank you. I just recently got the MIC 1 and loving it. I will eventually get the mic 2 and use the 1 for a back up. I also recently switched to the Osmo Action 4 after my go pro fell off my bike and was ran over. My experiences so far have been beyond expectation. I have only had 1 instance where the footage got the "jitters". Like the stabilization just quit but, it hasn't happened but the one time. I love how the camera will record until the battery is dead. The go pro would record audio only when the battery got to around 30%. I had the Hero 9 but my 7 did the same thing.
I use a GPS remote+OA4+mic combo and the problem is, when the camera goes to sleep, the mic 2 disconnects and if I start filming using the snapshot function the mic2 takes anywhere between instant to maybe 10 seconds to reconnect and obviously in that period I get no sound from it. Not a deal breaker but they could set it up like the remote so it doesn't disconnect until the camera shuts down after 30 minutes which is also something they should allow to be set by the user, as in allow the camera to never shut down completely. About the remote, it's pretty cool and it fits nicely on the mirror arm of my bike but they should allow the GPS to be turned off to conserve battery life. If they would fix these 3 things, it would be perfect.
That was a perfect review Runa! I've always used GoPro camera's so far. Why? To be honest, just because I thought they are the best. Now I've seen why I definately should switch to DJI. You gave me more than one reason to do so. Battery, low light quality, price and more. So a huge thank you from the Netherlands for this review!!
If you record in 4:3 ratio you get a read out from the full sensor so a larger image that you can then drop into a 16:9 timeline giving you a little more freedom in post processing to change the composition. i.e. you have an image the same width but with more vertical pixels so you can raise or lower the view point a little in your 16:9 timeline.
As i have heard not tried yet that the battery carging box for the DJI batteries can be used as a batterybank and you connect it to the USB port on the Osmond camera then you can rekord for hours without almost not use any battery on the camera at all maybe try it out?
Hi, how do you manage video cutting, what software / hardware do you use to produce videos during travelling ? My Davinci free does not work with 10bit clips. Really like your videos with all this details, helps planning my own travel a lot. Kind regards Robert
I’m thinking of starting to video my rides not for the tube but just for memories this has helped me a lot thank you . I was thinking of just buying a camera and adding bits as I go but as you say here in the uk the osmo kit is a slightly cheaper option.good as I may do it for a while and not do it again and waste of time and money .thank you again for the helpfull information 🏍🎉👍
I went back to a wired mic, because I can remote start the cam, but not the mic. Leaving the mic on, it's emty after a few hours. It also needs to pair after the cam switches on, which is not instant. And the quality with a directly attached mic is also better.
You never disappoint with everything you do, including making a video of your audio/video equipment. I was on the fence with which system to use but now after watching this video, it’s an easy choice. I love how it can Bluetooth audio and keeping out the moisture of a wired system. Thank you for spending the time and sharing this information.
Hi , great gear/ setup review I am going to make the change, it’s a no brainier. Go pro hero black 8 problems, the screen freezes, then it goes blank.. Quick start recording at fast speed. Battery out to reset. Battery life short. The good bit , picture quality I found really good.Your tip about the start buttons going to try that thanks. Plus an enormous thank you for all the videos you have made. Norway there’s no where like it , be visiting Again very soon.
Thanks for the video! One question: Is the DJI mic 2 connected to the DJI camera all the time? When using the camera in the one click function, are the two devices always connected? Or do I have to pair them every time? Is the connection immediate or is there a delay?
Great presentation. Question if I may, when connecting an external microphone, wired or Bluetooth, will that disable all internal microphones on the camera? Thanks in advance.
Hi from Norway, some tips. HEVC (aka H.265) not HVEC, (High Efficiency Video Coding). Also Røde has a dead cat for the Lavalier GO called MINIFUR-LAV which will suppress more wind noise.
Thank you for the video, very very useful! One question, the wireless mic doesn't connect to the action 3? some software limitation on the action 3, maybe?
New to action camera, got the ’osmo 4’. Guess I should have picked the package you showed. Need extra batteries and case, and the selfie stick too. Remote, wireless mic is probably the best thing. (Too bad I picked the wrong package) I have not downloaded any footage, and still working on motorcycle mount. Hopefully get it sorted for my mid-June trip! Nice bike, which Model huskie have you here?
hi Runa - great preso. Like many others - I'm tired of the reliability of the GoPro (9)... so keen on the Action 4. Are you able to confirm if the pre-recording mode remains set when the unit is powered off/on again? Or, does it need to be set every time?
I have recently purchased the action 4 with wireless mic. I will be intrigued to test it in cold conditions. My GoPro was useless in cold weather, died or lost 90% batter life in 5 mins, I had to keep the batteries warm in a heated glove...Agree so far with quality. I got rid of my GoPro 8's as they froze a lot, touch screen was patchy and battery life was poor. So far my DJI's are looking good. Fitting a magnet in the helmet can be a bit awkward. Best wishes
That Chin gripper mount seems cool and functional! I should consider buying it. Right now I GoPro sticker mounts on my helmet. But, I have a concern/doubt: doesn't the mount keeps touching your collarbone or the base of your neck when you look down or turn sidewards with your chin down. I have this difficulty, as I had to glue the mount onto the chin of the helmet upside down as to adjust seamlessly with the stylised contours of my helmet and the camera keeps hitting against the lower part of my neck and sometimes the footage I get is nothing but plain "sky-watching" 🙂I am afraid whether the dango mount would do the same
Running the same setup myself. Well at least I plan to. Just received the mic2 after waiting forever. Have used the mic1 for a bit, but will be great to loose the receiver
I just did a small vid on this and was telling people I would link a person that could explain this camera in more detail, and wow I found you, so can I add this vid as link on my channel? You did a great job explaining everything 👌🏾
What a great review, well done! You sure hit on everything anyone would want to know about this combination vs. the GoPro. I just recently switched to the Action 4 from GoPro, I have 3 GoPros and have grown to dislike them more than any of my other technology. 100% agree with your assessment on everything, I have no idea why I would ever use GoPro again after going to the Action 4 + DJI Mic 2 and wireless audio. It's so convenient and everything just works.....not to mention the quick release is SOO nice, and no requirement for the silly GoPro Media Mod :).
The only biggest problem of using DJI wireless mic with Osmo Action 4 is - the bluetooth connection takes some time to get connected and first many seconds audio is missed and even if captured, first few seconds are muffled. There is no fix to this as per DJI, because bluetooth needs some time to get connected once the camera is off. And of course you cannot keep the camera on whole time.
How fast it reconnects varies a lot. Sometimes it reconnects instantly, and other times can take up to 10 seconds which is definitely not ideal. I will use this solution for rainy days, and just keep the camera on. Sure I'll have to change battery more often, but with the option being no audio at all as other options are not water proof I don't mind that 😊
Hi Runa, I very much appreciate your feedback on your camera gear. I have the Osmo Action 3 with Instamic Pro. QUESTION: What software do you use for post production?
Nice with the wireless! I am curious though. Since it connects with bluetooth, will it work with quick start on the camera? I mean the cam starts up to film in a few seconds but will the mic always connect as fast and reliably? Cheers! /Rob
It does reconnect. How long it takes however seems to vary. Sometimes (most times so far) it connects instantly, other times it can take up to 10 seconds ish. Seems like that occurs more often when the camera has been asleep for little while. I will most likely use the wireless solution only when it rains, and just keep the camera on constantly. Having the receiver connected for normal use gives you a few more really nice features I would like to take advantage of, like the 32 bit float recording, and more options to adjust audio input levels. Will know better once I've had time to use it for a while!
Same set up as I use, so easy, dumped GoPro a long time ago. Sadly I now have the original Action (still used), the Action 3 and 4. The new mic is a game changer, I just use the stand alone version.
Thanks for all the good info. very interesting I use the insta360 x3 and a gopro but unlike you I just play around with it. and now you got me interested in the DJI going to take a look at it soon. where ever you are one the world have fun ride safe
Thanks for the gr8 review 😃I've been using the Osmo Action 3 for a long time and I'm very pleased with it. Have used GoPro in the past, but DJI is a lot better in many ways.
Well I apparently have really gone down the Off She Goes rabbit hole 🤔 watching, fully enjoying and learning from a technical video of camera equipment I don’t even own! Cant wait for the videos on motorcycle tires ☺️. Safe travels 😸
I have DJI Osmo Action 3 and dual DJI Mic 1 Set (2 TX + 1 RX + CC) and few questions 🙂 Can you pair a DJI Mic 1 transmitter to Osmo Action 4? Can you pair two DJI Mic transmitters (version 1 or 2) to Osmo Action 4? Can you adjust transmitter gains as well on Osmo Action 4, like you can do with DJI Mic's receiver? Thank you 🙏
If you have two different bluetooth set ups, like one for the mic-camera, and one for a smartphone GPS to a large screen like Carpuride W702 GPS, ( not even sure if you use such a thing) plus to a loudspeaker in helmet do the bluetooth signals not interfere with each other? Or for instance with a wireless bluetooth connection to other riders, can you still use it or must one stop either of the two? If so. is it possible to link the mic and camera with a cable anyway?
Great reveiw, very informative. As someone just starting on the youtube journey I struggle processing 4k footage even with the best laptop that I could afford. Then I realised it uploaded everything at 1080p. My question is how could I make the most of 4k? to make good quality vids
Hi! Sorry to hear that. Do you make sure that your timeline while editing is 4K, and that your export settings are 4K? Normal standard settings for both are 1080!
@OffSheGoesADV think my laptop can't cope with 4 k graphics very well. I just don't understand the benefit of shooting in 4k when youtube only makes it 1080p. I know you are busy however I would appreciate your opinion , my chanel is Tuppi1290 . I had one comment about quality but rest seem OK. Would value your thoughts if posible.

I just bought one, top camera. people love to watch it.
Thanks for a good review. I finally made the jump from Gopro to DJI Action 4. what a breath of fresh air !
hi, how did you glue the magnet on the django? ride safe
Thanks Runa getting an action 3 soon! Great information in this video!
CUT...that's a wrap. No editing needed. Yes the DJI is making big waves in the industry...others are playing catch up. Great information. Garth
Thinking about the Dji Mic 2, as general audio rec for the different cameras I'm using at the moment.
Just to have always the same audio quality.
I ditched my Hero 9's I actually have the Osmo 4 and Mic 2 showing up today. Very much looking forward to trying them. Good video, thank you.
Thank you I am looking at a new camera and you have helped me make my mind up
Hi, I love your videos ❤️
Did you use some ND filters on your Osmo 4?
So great DJI sent you two Osmo Action 4 to try out. Like I have mentioned before I bought two of them when they got released and I am really pleased with the quality, batterylife, how good it can handle really cold winter weather and much more. I had OA3 before and loved it, but OA4 have way better quality and it is also possible to adjust sharpness and noise reduction.
Fantastic video! I have absolutely no experience with this stuff. It was really enlightening, especially the comparisons you set up.
Great video. I'm looking improve the audio in my videos. Thanks for sharing your experience.
That is a great advice, thank you!
Exceptionally well presented content. Just like the headline says. I would recommend this video for anyone for the Osmo action if looking one!
And the quality with a directly attached mic is also better.
very helpful and concise information here, thanks for your breakdown!
Hi Runa! Have to ask, favorite things you’ve put on the Norden?😌
thank you for this upload, i think thats the best one on the internet about these devices
Great tips and motovlog help, I will upgrade my OA3 here in Scotland soon and move on to mic 2 also ! Excited . Ride safe 🤟👍
Great presentation. Question if I may, when connecting an external microphone, wired or Bluetooth, will that disable all internal microphones on the camera? Thanks in advance.
Thank you, Rodger! Yes, once you connect an external mic, the camera will no longer record audio from internal microphones 😊
Hi from Norway, some tips. HEVC (aka H.265) not HVEC, (High Efficiency Video Coding). Also Røde has a dead cat for the Lavalier GO called MINIFUR-LAV which will suppress more wind noise.
Oh wow, I both read and spelled that wrong! 😱 So sorry about that! Thank you for letting me know.
I’ve got the same set up. Awesome combo, great video and audio and no faff with extra wires.
Ola sou do brasil e parabens pelo belo trabalho, tem link da onde comprou esse adaptador para colocar a camera do queixo :::
I just bougth my DJI Osmo Action 4 Combo before watching your video and I am pretty happy with my choice Runa. 🙏❤
Thank you for the video, very very useful!
One question, the wireless mic doesn't connect to the action 3? some software limitation on the action 3, maybe?
Yes, you need the adapter for the three and use a wired mic or the DJI Mic or Mic2 full set up.
What are the little magnets 🧲 that you are using to attach your Mic 2 to your helmet ?
I have this difficulty, as I had to glue the mount onto the chin of the helmet upside down as to adjust seamlessly with the stylised contours of my helmet and the camera keeps hitting against the lower part of my neck and sometimes the footage I get is nothing but plain "sky-watching" 🙂I am afraid whether the dango mount would do the same
Hi, I really like you and your videos! Would you tell me witch Soft- and Hardware you use to cut your videos?
Hi! I use davinci resolve on a MacBook 😊
Great video thank you! What is the name of the accessory you use to mount the second camera (not the one on the helmet)?
Does it still have the 250ft range? If connected straight to the action 4
@@aerocinematics5748 yes it connects but not instant
How fast it reconnects varies a lot. Sometimes it reconnects instantly, and other times can take up to 10 seconds which is definitely not ideal. I will use this solution for rainy days, and just keep the camera on. Sure I'll have to change battery more often, but with the option being no audio at all as other options are not water proof I don't mind that 😊
@@OffSheGoesADV so without DJI Wireless mic we can not take recording with audio when rainy ?
Wired solution with dji lav mic works best for me over wireless mic 2 - also make sure you only drop to -5db in the camera and perfect wound then 👍
Same set up as I use, so easy, dumped GoPro a long time ago.
I'm just starting out vlogging, this is the best video out there! Excellent! Thank-you!
Thanks for the gr8 review 😃I've been using the Osmo Action 3 for a long time and I'm very pleased with it. Have used GoPro in the past, but DJI is a lot better in many ways.
Glad you liked it! 😊 I agree, I've used GoPro too but there's no going back after trying DJI
Wow, what a great review. Really pointed out the important parts. Made me jump straight into Amazon and snoop around 🙂👍🏼👌🏼
Well I apparently have really gone down the Off She Goes rabbit hole 🤔 watching, fully enjoying and learning from a technical video of camera equipment I don’t even own! Cant wait for the videos on motorcycle tires ☺️. Safe travels 😸
Hahah, really appreciate that 😃
I have DJI Osmo Action 3 and dual DJI Mic 1 Set (2 TX + 1 RX + CC) and few questions 🙂
Can you pair a DJI Mic 1 transmitter to Osmo Action 4?
Great video. I'm sold. Thank you for this.
But how do you sticked the magnet to the Dango gripper
watching here in the Philippines Dji Action 4 user too planning to get the mic 2 soon :)
