I suspect he wasn't involved at the start. It was such a giant risk for him. No I suspect that it was the brother/father originally but he definitely knew before everyone else found out and it's certainly been proven he knew what was going on after 2022 and even after finding out he didn't stop it and didn't report it and once that happened he became just as guilty as everyone else especially by dicing to go ahead with Indie Land 2023. You see it all the time in white collar crimes one person will start the fraud/embezzlement in a way that kind of if you spin it the right way implicates another then goes to them and says "Hey I did this your implicated help me continue and you get a cut or you go down with me" if the other is smart they run, get ahead of the mess and whistle blow but some people look at the situation see the money they could be getting and they justify their decision to be complicit with the threat. and of course once they do that their stuck their really are complicit and I think that what happened here.
If you read the pleadings, TOVE didn't just lose at summary judgment. It surrendered. TOVE failed to file a response to the summary judgment motion, and then CONSENTED to having judgment entered against them. I can't possibly figure out why. If you fail to respond (and you have a defense), the first thing you're going to want to ask for is more time to respond. If you can't get that, you want to ask the other party to consent to you dismissing the lawsuit before judgement is entered. (In federal court you can't dismiss without the defendants or the courts permission once the case is underway). That way you avoid having the judge issue a written opinion describing the ways you fucked up. If the other party won't do that, you might file a motion to ask the court to just dismiss it. If you can't get that, you might at least ask the other party to withdraw (or cap) its attorney fee request in exchange for you dying quietly. Here, TOVE agreed to lose the lawsuit in exchange for NOTHING. The judge is still going to write a full opinion about why TOVE loses (and now it'll certainly contain a big pile of references to the fact that they didn't even file a response). They still lose the case. And the defendant is pursuing its attorney's fees with guns blazing. Their fees motion clearly did not pull any punches. This is TOVE running away from this lawsuit as fast as it can without much if any thought to the consequences. It smells of panic and not much else.
Here’s a good reason: Lawyers are officers of the court. A lawyer knowingly lying to a judge or in court can get them disbarred or fined. The only defense TOVE’s lawyers had at this point would require their lawyers to knowingly lie or fabricate evidence. It saved them professionally to throw in the towel and they get paid win or lose.
How interesting... I wonder whether TOVE said they wouldn't pay for any further legal work & their lawyers said fine, we're not lodging anything further so it's on the brothers to respond (which they didn't do). Given the way they used the immigration lawyer's name to imply their visa scam was legit, I wouldn't be surprised if Chucklehead #2 thinks he's smart enough to dodge legal issues while avoiding additional legal costs... the consummate scammer.
@arifhossain9751 Honestly...no. This is just what happens when you can't prove up your case. The failure to respond is a huge error (I'd hate to be their lawyers right now), but it was a frivolous claim from the start and it wasn't going to go well. Don't get me wrong...Karl and Musa have done some really impressive sleuthing, and I'm eager to see what else they dig up. But this case died because it was dumb.
@@QuintMorrison6 I hear what you're saying, but I doubt it because there's really no evidence to make up. The relationship between these three parties, whatever it was, was recorded. TOVE and the programmer had a deal. The programmer and the defendant (clearly I don't remember their names) had a deal. The defendant didn't know anything about TOVE's involvement until after everything went down. That's mostly undisputed. The disputes are mostly legal, and TOVE had a hand to play. For example: the terms of the programmer's license with the defendant (giving defendant a licensed to use the programmers work) were a part of his agreement as a USER, not a programmer. The defendant has argued that the same terms should apply, and I tend to think they're right, but there's certainly a colorable case to be made that they're two different things. The case is a loser, but not such a loser that a competent lawyer can't put up a response without breaking the rules.
I'm also no lawyer, but I have a feeling ICE might want to have a word with Mr. Khalil next, because that employment contract does not sound like a typical H1B arrangement.

I stopped watching once Greg left; he was always the one worth turning in for to me. Hopefully Greg can take some solace in the complete and utter faceplant we're in the midst of, and I would love to see him come back into the public eye with new projects if that's something he has any desire to do.
That "no written agreement" habit actually goes all the way back to the Jirard's start; It's how he stiffed Greg Wilmot out of ever paying him at all. The fact that it's still prevalent all these years later really shows that Jirard isn't one to do anything above the table, and likely hasn't even laid out formal contracts for anyone who were stuck in that office with him.
To give a little insight on the H1B visas vs Canada's version of Work Visa(Called Work Permits here): There's almost no differences, but the key takeaway here is that the work visa/permit can/has/should be done in person/brick & mortar. Not remote nor work-at-home. The visa THEY SHOULD HAVE applied for for this individual would be called "Digital Nomad Visa", which encompasses basically any work that can be done virtually from anywhere & cooperated via the internet. IE: Art Designers, Programmers, Remote Customer Support Agents, etc. as long as they are not a citizen or permanent residents of that country. Technically they are just treated as a visitor that can work in that country for the amount of time that the visitor is allowed to stay in that given country before having to submit an extension request either electronically means or in writing. Yes, they are in big trouble vs US immigration now. lol
People saying " i thought you were done with drama" have a weird definition of "drama" . This is about crimes and an investigation muta personally helped with uncovering. Yall gonna say to the judge " why are you doing this, its just drama"? Are true crime and fraud youtubers considered drama now too?
U get people calling crimes "drama" and vandalism/harassment "pranks", i mostly blame social media for completely ruining the real meaning of those words.
Considering this is TH-camrs, or more accurately mini-celebrities, fighting it out, it does edge towards “drama”. Where it diverts is the reason it started is there were allegations of a crime that turned out to be true. Thus it turned into a scandal, which is music to the ears of every tabloid/click-bait merchant’s ears and peak drama. So it’s a blurry line between the two but to simple call this “drama farming” is nonsense.
Failure to disclose the principal the agent assumes all liability. TW never mentioned he was working for TOVE. Therefore it's impossible for Koil to know what is going on. Koil thinks he is hiring 1 guy, that guy never mentions any other boss, so TOVE has zero claims to being involved in negotiations with Koil. This is just a shakedown. There were never any meeting of the minds between TROVE and Koil with full disclosure. This case is dead and they'll have to pay Koils legal fees.
Hey muta. Just wanted to mention that the audio quality in this video is kinda off, the quality itself is good but the volume switches constantly between low volume and high volume to the point where I manually change the volume throughout the video several times. It's been like this for a while in earlier videos, idk what's going on but it's kind of annoying.
Yeah I noticed it a lot with Muta's videos that there are audio changes between when he just talks to the camera or showing some documents/footage on his PC
I just don't understand. It wasn't even like he was blowing that money on gambling or drugs or sports cars or whatever people do with money that doesn't belong to them. He wasn't even earning any interest on it. He was just letting it collect dust and devalue with inflation. What was the point? Why couldn't he just donate it? Was he hoping to just quietly walk away with the cash at the end? What's *wrong* with him?
He kinda was doing all that, passing all his expenses of who knows what kind to the charity, while claiming he doesnt touch anything. Even his own stuff wasnt adding up to the numbers being in the tax forms, he was making way more than what was reported in the form, and the expenses are suppose to be taken out and disclosed AFTER not BEFORE you deposit them, and the golf tournament money were nowhere to be found. The money in the account were there to keep appearances i guess, with who knows what plans for them down the line, they could do what most of these charities do, pay most of the proceeds as salaries to the executives, and the executives are him and his family members.
People were speculating at the time that the Jirard and his family were waiting until a certain amount of years so they could withdraw it and hopefully get away with it. Getting caught early mostly ruined that plan though.
Jirard SAID they never touched it, but he never verified that by posting a statement of that account. My theory is that they were using that account as their personal slush fund to fund whatever. The reason I think that is the fact that it took them 2 months after being exposed to donate to the foundation they already had listed as one they were working with. All the talk of taking time to find the right place to donate was horseshit, they already had it. So why did it take them 2 months? They had to get the money together because it wasn't actually just sitting in that account...doing that shit takes time.
I wonder what Greg Willmot - the guy Jirrad started The Completionist with who felt he wasn't getting fairly compensated by the channel for his likeness - feels about all this now?
His response was something along the lines of, "That family always felt fishy. Considering that and my own issues, I'm glad my gut instinct was right."
He actually spoke on the situation. Saying that he knew a controversy like that would hit that family at some point hence why he wanted all videos that featured him removed.
The "make a difference" package is named like that, because the $300 you donate will be a difference between the money the foundation actually has and the money they report.
On a separate note from the topic of the video...the volume on this video is absolutely fucked. Going from just a bit too low requiring you to crank your volume up...to suddenly blasting your ears.
He gets excited while he's talking and doesn't have a volume stabilizer. At the end of the day you gotta remember he's just a basic human behind a basic mic.
Yooooo, I imagine that the immigration work visa stuff is probably waaaaay more wide spread then we actually know, if it's coming up in a random case like this it's probably rampant behind closed doors.
It's so weird, all these years later, to know the Greg was right this whole time. Christ, at this point I don't even believe any of Jirard's "heartfelt" tales from his childhood. Most likely all made up to keep the con going.
When I was younger, as a fan, I wrote Jirard a letter in the wake of the whole situation with Greg leaving the show, which was a mess all on it's own, and I called him my hero, for everything he did, and now at the end of this road, I'm reminded of a movie quote. "It tore me apart, but I learned an important lesson; You can't count on anyone, especially your heroes."
okay now seriously ladies and gentlemen, when we actually really get into this and dig into it so to speak, it turns out, ladies and gentlemen, that the actual things going on were actually not so good after all!
Dude, pls mix up your Audio. At one point the video gets realy quiet, so i turn the volume up. Just to get my ears blasted in the next cut... And this is a problem u got in a lot of your videos.
I remember talking to a mate about this lawsuit a couple weeks back. He theorised that this was Jirard testing the waters of filing a lawsuit that he thought he could win before going after Karl and Mutah

Is this the reason they left 200.000 in the Charity?! To pay personal legal costs?! I would not be surprised since they do not seem to care what is legal or not!
This reminds me of an event in my country, Our charity commission just released a damning report about the 'Captain Tom Foundation' The real problem with this sort of (alleged) fraud, is that it ruined things for everyone else! Good hearted people who genuinely are trying to use their platforms to raise money and do good in the world. Now there's always going to be a question. How do we know this charity live stream, or this charity event isn't just lining the pockets of the streamer themselves? I really hope the authorities start taking a closer look at online fundraising, and start bringing prosecutions.

Just an FYI about all the objections at the 36ish minute mark, that's just a thing from depositions. They ask the questions, the lawyers object, the people answer them anyway, and then they move on. The objections are basically placeholders - if they don't object to questions during the deposition, they can't later file to have it stricken later if it is actually bad-bad.

im two months behind on my rent and a month behind on all my bills and everything together is still such a drop in the bucket compared to all of this money and it just makes me sick.
This is like having a side job as an Uber driver, but your main job says "You gotta give us 30% of the money you make doing this completely separate work." That's some old BS right there.
Wait, they hired a dev to write code for their company, and now that dev thinks it's his? What kind of logic is that? I made a hamburger the customer bought, but since I made it, is it actually mine?
I had a sneaking suspicion that there had to be more shady stuff going on with the Completionist but I just didn't know what. His actions this time last year made little sense when it came to his reaction to the situation. Every logical step he could have taken to rectify the situation and still have a bit of tact were ignored and instead he choose to dig his heels in. He knew there was a lot more going on and only a matter of time before it all came falling down.
Hey mate - Can you run your audio through some kinda compressor or leveler for the whole thing, so it kinda averages out your commentary volume? I think I know how it happens if you record different bits at different times with different "energies" of your "performance" (sorry don't really know any better word =D) - If you use Davinci Resolve it has a pretty good dialogue normalising preset but whatever you use I'm sure there's something built in or an addon

So:
2500+(56-50)×100+(56-50)²
=2500+6×100+6²

I bet they threw in the towel when they saw Muta and Karl poke their heads around the corner and react to this farce of a lawsuit.
I don't understand how someone can do this to themselves, their mom, their fans, and a bunch of sick people.
Because they themselves are sick but in a different way...

Glad that Greg is getting vindicated after all these years of people hating on him for leaving the channel
it never felt right to me, i always wondered why he was scrubed, well here it is
I stopped watching once Greg left; he was always the one worth turning in for to me. I agree that the departure always felt off, and I never quite trusted Jirard's statements on, well, anything after that.

I didn’t notice any audio issues
Very weird
Jirard is a prime example of why you should never fully give your trust to people. Even the ones who you think are genuine can do some shady shit.
I don't even fully trust myself, why would i fully trust another person?
And give your donation straight to charities/research instead of streamers saying they will do it
@Moon_x_sun all streamers/you tubers should have to show documentation proving they donated it.
I wonder what Greg Willmot - the guy Jirrad started The Completionist with who felt he wasn't getting fairly compensated by the channel for his likeness - feels about all this now?
He responded about a year ago on reddit when everything came out. I was happy to see he's doing well for himself
His response was something along the lines of, "That family always felt fishy. Considering that and my own issues, I'm glad my gut instinct was right."
He actually spoke on the situation. Saying that he knew a controversy like that would hit that family at some point hence why he wanted all videos that featured him removed.
