Jeff Dunham's Scrooged-Up Holiday Special is One of the Worst Things I've Ever Seen

- Occasionally I come across a comedy special that immediately intrigues me based simply on how terrible it looks at a first glance. Jeff Dunham's Scrooged-up Holiday special is one such special. I could tell from the outset that it would be garbage, but I wanted to see how bad it truly was. What I uncovered was almost unbelievable.

As sad as that is you're probably correct.
The joke he used to have (and still might) about the Prius being a "lunchbox" or being slow doesn't really work. The Tesla is the fastest car on the road and bigger than the Prius. And even Tesla jokes about the rich, prissy, show off yuppies who pretend to care about the environment are old and overdone. If you live on the west coast today Teslas don't even get a second look. There probably is a good joke about the Tesla cybertruck though. Comedians need to start going with that.

Who am I to tell Jeff Dunham how to make money (make money out of poor quality product no less)? But the Peanut segment seems unwise, juxtaposing the real Peanut with the cheaper made replica doll in a way that highlights their differences. A rule of thumb for those who want to get in ventriloquism, do NOT have your mouth open half the time you do voices and when you control your puppets. @@martaiswatchingyoutube5063 you are 12
My parents saw him a few years ago in Vegas or something. For some reason, they found him hysterically funny, so they decided to surprise us (my, my wife, my sister, her husband) with tickets for Christmas.
All four of us have different tastes in comedy. My sister likes that "hot" comedian guy from TikTok or whatever that does primarily crowd work that I'm almost certain is scripted. It's definitely stupid. On the other end of the spectrum, I'm more of an anti-comedy/silly humor guy: Tim and Eric, Monty Python, most things British. All four of us agree that Carlin is the goat.
Dunham's live show was so damn bad, we stood up and left halfway through. Incidentally, the halfway point was actually his chance to promote his wife's health cookies or some shit. Not a single one of us laughed a single time. At all.
Here's the really annoying thing about it, and this was the same for other hacks like Carlos Mencia: they want to pretend that people don't like them just because they're so edgy and offensive. "Lighten up, snowflakes. Quit being so triggered."
Here's a little factoid for ya, Dunham. When it comes to comedy, wanna know what offends me? You ready?....nothing. Seriously. I've laughed at stuff that made me feel guilty for laughing at WHILE I was in the process of laughing. I'm talking dead baby jokes, racial jokes, holocaust jokes, cancer jokes. I've even laughed at a 9/11 joke (thanks for that feather in the cap, Norm MacDonald). Caricature puppet with lazy accent telling dad jokes isn't offensive. It's dumb. It's bad comedy. It's crap material with crap delivery via one of the lowest tiers of performance mediums. It's like calling Michael Bay dialog poetry.
And I swear the majority of the people in the audience were forcing laughs, either out of embarrassment or because they felt like they were "owning the snowflakes." Tf kind of life is this?
The point is, when it comes to comedy, it just needs to be funny. That's it. Quit hiding behind your anti-cancel-culture bs and just write funny shit. Yes, cancel culture sucks, but the people that can't shut up about complaining about it are somehow 100x more annoying.
P.S. - sorry for the rant. I clearly loathe this guy. Going to watch some Flying Circus now.
I dare you re-watch some full length Carlin material, not just "best of" kinda clips. He really does not hold up.
There's a video here on youtube called "Agent of Entropy" about him, that really puts his career and him as a prrson in a different perspective.
@@simonbehrendt-n4w I've seen someone say that George Carlin is a sort of "proto-Redditor", due to his unwaveringly nihilistic outlook on life and refusal to even try to see good in the world, and honestly I have to agree; Carlin always came off as way too preachy and hateful with his social commentary for me to really be behind him.
Time to retire some puppets
Gotta admit I’m surprised he didn’t introduce a purple hair, tattooed, “ugly”, male feminist, woke, puppet to do a bunch of cringy jokes
He did a neurotic-looking puppet that was like Trump's manager or smth. Sadly the only real interesting thing about him was how well Jeff could make him rock in an attempt to console himself.
The "Achmed" problem is steeped in 2007 understanding and humor, but it was probably the character that made him famous, so he feels obligated to keep it in the act. But to evolve the Achmed character into anything relevant or funny would be a fatwa being called on Jeff Dunham so that he and his family will never be safe anywhere in the world ever again.
Having him become a grifitng social media star while downplaying his awful past (and being dead) would have been a funny play at "social media influencers are dead inside/satanic spawn".
Mind you Jeff would still have found a way to ruin it.
The dead terrorist bit was boring before the second tower fell, yet it's Dunham's entire career. And I stole this from Louis CK.

The little ads with the main performer hawking their wares during the show are pretty common in the Midwestern/southern live theater scene. The shooting scrooge joke would be funny if it was about the United Healthcare thing, but then I realized that this was filmed before that went down.
Strange take. As a vagina owner i think honey baked ham is far less insulting than roast beef which iv always disliked.
I agree. Roast beef has a sloppy, negative connotation. Honey baked ham at least suggests a well put together, sweet meal
@Volkswagenitalia. & The honey speaks for itself 🤣
I thought the same. He must be used to girls that have been completely ruined.
He wasn't saying roast beef was less insulting, just that it looked more like a vagina than ham does.
@@badjuju2612 being ruined isnt a thing that happens
I don't think I've ever heard you sound so genuinely angry as you did when recounting the Bubba J segment.
It's genuinely aggravating to watch.
As a redneck, samesies.
My culture is not a costume.
I have a friend who really liked his stuff and made me watch a couple specials back in the day and even they are fully off Dunham at this point so I can't fathom anyone pays to see this man
My family went to see him shortly after COVID lockdowns were lifted. The whole but reeked of "I want to discuss politics and the low hanging COVID commentary without actually talking about politics and the low hanging COVID commentary" which made it even worse than if his whole bit leaned entirely into the politics and low hanging COVID commentary
I worked for a lady who found him hilarious so she would play this and Blue Collar Comedy clips non-stop at work. The office was Tiny and there was no Escape. We were very happy when she got promoted to a different location.
4:52 no saying someone drives a Prius means they're gay.
It's backed by science
I would never watch 59 minutes of Jeff Dunham’s special, but I gladly watched 32 minutes of Beige criticizing it.
I haven't thought of Jeff Dunham in so long, I totally forgot that he once asked me for the time at a car show and I pretended he was so short I couldn't hear him.
This guy’s humor is what I imagine the average cop’s idea of comedy is
You know how theres “coworker music”?
Well Jeff dunham is “coworker comedy” 🗑️ 💩
A friend asked me to go to one of Jeff’s shows with them because the venue was a few hours away and she didn’t want to drive by herself. I went, knowing I wouldn’t enjoy his show, but this was a friend I can have a good time with no matter what, so I thought we could still make the best of it. I remember no one in the audience laughing. Like ever, none of the jokes got a reaction. It was a wild experience.
Lol. I broke up with my ex because we argued over the fact that i thought that Jeff sucks. 😂
This is probably a lie. And if it's not a lie, you're a loser that got dumped over Jeff Dunham, and you are bragging about it in youtube comments like it's an accomplishment or something. Like wtf 😂 I wouldn't be bragging about that. You should re think your life.
I remember being the biggest Jeff Dunham fan in 2nd grade, I begged my mom to take me to see his shows if they ever came to Seattle. Thank god that never happened, I still cringe thinking of my jalapeno on a stick impressions to girls I was trying to impress
High school me really loved his comedy. I stopped after one of his Netflix specials (Name is escaping me) since I just found the jokes to be lazy and not funny
Jeff seems completely trapped in the mid 2000's, even with the updated references (TikTok, Trump, DEI) it's the same old jokes.
as someone who watched a thousand clips of jeff dunham special’s when i was in middle school (obviously had brain damage) … there were very few jokes you showed/read that he didn’t reuse. i’m also pretty sure the physical comedy was an attempt to recreate an unscripted moment when the arms fell off.
your comment about this special is for people whose comedy peaked at mind of mencia… that’s so unbelievably true.
Jeff: "things are different than they were 50 years ago"
Audience: uproarious laughter
And everything old is new again.
The larry the cable guy slander is unfounded. That dude can really write a joke even if they're silly as hell
Yeah as long as the last word is 'fart'. Followed by 'git-r-done'. That's about as deep as his well gets.
@@gremlinfinger5964 that's what the perception of him is, yes. And it's what I assumed he must have been like until I looked up some of his stand up recently
I love he will never grow as a comedian from his same cast of characters since he became a household name, especially Achmed. Its like still doing Ross Perot impressions
He should have Tom Meyer open for him
Us acres
Honestly, I think doing mediocre impressions of insanely-out-of-date political figures could be a funny bit if you did it right. The problem with Achmed is that it's always just relevant enough that it's not anachronistic, but also it's relevant because America will always have a decently large amount of Islamophobic sentiment and that just adds a layer of "I feel like we're only laughing until someone pulls out the first torch" awkwardness.
Funnily enough, he almost expanded his act, but not in a great way. He used to have the superhero and pimp puppets, but they were retired some time ago, though in all honesty I don’t understand why he did since his material really hasn’t changed since he started getting big. Believe me though, it’s for the best that “Sweet Daddy D” isn’t part of the set anymore.

I don’t see any comments about his jokes being too offensive or racists. Lots of comments pointing out the lazy and unfunny jokes. His fans are gonna argue we don’t like his comedy special because we’re offended or “woke”. Nope, it’s just not funny.
Yeah, gotta agree with this. I personally like the akmed portions back in the days but... I haven't seen any evolution since like 15 years ago
I don't even get offended by transphobic jokes anymore. They're just so unfunny and so overdone, I can't even find the anger to be offended.
It's actually kind of sad.
Do the puppets each count as one of the 250 remaining comics? Does Akhmed only count as half of a comic since he's canonically a "dead terrorist?"
Shocked Rogan hasn't had Jeff on yet.
Asking the real questions
Honestly, this was a better joke than anything on the special.

It's funny, I never hear Jim Carrey or Will Ferrell complain about how "hard" it is to do comedy "nowadays".

10 plus years ago I was a server at a Buffalo Wild Wings- people CONSTANTLY asked for bread with their wings.

29:30 Biege, after watching your content for years I really thought you'd turned a corner a few videos ago. I'm very saddened that you have gone back to your old ways by incorrectly saying "I digest," instead of "I digress." My heart aches for the correct phrase.
"I DIGEST" 😂😂😂
Imagine saying the words “woke mind virus” unironically lol
Oh man, back in 2017 my coworkers were watching his newest special at the time and it was mostly him complaining about his divorce then bragging that he's married to a 22 year old. There was an obnoxious drunk Irish baby puppet.
Id just like to say that 2007 was still very much at the height of Islamophobia in the US. 6 years on from 9/11 was not that much time. They were still going very hard into their 'all of the middle east is a backwater terrorist training camp' rhetoric at the time. Makes perfect sense for him to debut this racist ass fucked up character in that time frame. Honestly if it popped up in 2002 some people might have called it too soon, but 6 years on they were very comfortably in their 'every brown person is a sharia law peasant who dont know no better' groove.
Yeah, the thing is the Islamaphobia never went away. It just mutated. It’s still mutating.
That is a fair point.

i once heard someone say that jeff dunham is one of the few artists still keeping ventriloquism alive, and if racist puppets is what it takes to keep ventriloquism alive then maybe its not worth saving
The funny thing was that prior in his original special, he made fun of people saying happy holidays: “I wanted to say this for a long time! Screw you! It’s Merry Christmas! I’m not gonna walk up to every person and ask their religion!”
So I do assume that it was a corporate demand. Because I know he said that he has been demanded to change things (a reoccurring one being removing or changing Achmed) frequently so maybe corporations are to blame.
that‘s wild because people have been wishing each other happy holidays since jeff was forced unto the world 💀
that wouldnt even make sense because happy holidays would negate the idea that you would ask for their religion
@@zachh.9065 well thats just a brief summary the actual skit you can probably find on youtube just look up Walter and Jeff dunham christmas special. To be fair, most comedians recycle jokes for a few years or use jokes from others. It's hard to come up with a brand new stand up routine every year. But if he's still using the jokes that he had 15 years ago then it's time for him to get new material.
i appreciate you dialing down (slightly) the caricature nature of your drawing style for this one because if you went fully in that direction you might have accidentally overlapped with the aesthetic nature of the over the top caricature style of his puppets. great video as always
