Hello guys and gals, it's me Mutahar again! This time we take a look at what appears to be an image that keeps getting sent to me in the search for the "Jeff The Killer" original image. Today we're going through various debunks of this image in this multiple year long quest and how recently the actual search has become more fruitful. Thanks for watching!

My favorite part about JTK is still the fact that the search for the origin of that goofy photo has been way more interesting than the actual creepypasta

(Edit: I am aware that AI images have watermarks and image id’s, I am saying that the amount of trash that is going to be sent by people is going to be a lot to sift through)
When you pair it with people putting up cash rewards for it, people will be more enticed to use AI to make fake mock ups so give it a few months and the search will become actually impossible

It makes it harder but not impossible. In data science there is this term called noise, it is referred when you have recordings of things that seemingly appear to be subjects of interest on the surface but they are usually easily determined as worthless data.
The ai influx of images does create noise but all of them are new images with no prior links on the internet. So easily crossed out as simply noise.
It'd be ironic if a piece of lost media couldn't be found because there were so many fakes that it was impossible to tell what was real anymore. The real one could be sitting right out in the open fully visible to the public and people could be none the wiser. Not sure what it'd take to get to that point, but it's a cool thought.
@@gaarakabuto1 Yeah exactly, and like the metadata doesn't lie either. The metadata for all of those images will be so recent, it's so easy to cut out of the search. Just wastes energy ruling them out that could be used on ruling out real possibilities. I wonder whether the AI imagers are just that dumb trying to get the bag, or are trying to pollute the pool of images to look through, as you said creating noise.

My theory is that the original image for JTK was never uploaded. Being the wild west the internet was back then someone could have made the image from either a selfie or from various images. But you never know.
Or the person keeping the original image is just laughing to themself
Knowing that you can record anything on your device. And never upload it, and after deleting it. It will lost forever, it could be actual truth, that some man/female overwrite original file, or just make "wrong" photo of himself. But for some miracle repopulated on the internet by some random. Im pretty sure that one doesn't even know that he/she is in active search of original photo.
And if it will be an actual lost media. We can possibly guess that this person is officially avoided recognition in the internet

note, to avoid AI art, use 'Before:2010' at the end of a sentence to look for older images if they still exist
I mean idk how google handles this but if it does by looking at metadata it's also not to be trusted.

I think the image is gone at this point, most of the internet since the 2000s is gone so I doubt it still even exists.
I guess you still able to catch some sites from 1996 to 1999. But knowing that in this time nobody even thinked about internet preservation. It could be actually impossible.
BUT - If some people could talk to those individuals/families about it, maybe we can find original?
They say the Internet never forgets, but it absolutely does. So much stuff you will likely never find again, not even super obscure stuff either.

There's an earlier version of the JTK image that it is very clearly based on and the exif data for that image says it was made in Photoshop 4

I would almost guarantee you it's a screenshot of an old webcam stream, and that there is no unedited image in existence - and no video.
perhaps there's a way to figure out if that's the case? I was wondering if maybe there's some sign left of the image having been encoded for streaming

It would take a monstrous amount of coincidences for the details on the mariko to line up with JTK on accident. There’s absolutely no way it’s not the right path. My only fear is that the original image itself was only ever uploaded once, on either an obscure website or forum that never got archived properly.
One thing I don’t see people mention is the shadow on the side of her forehead, it’s on the same place and it’s the same size. Even though it’s a small detail it could actually be really useful.

It's so popular that it's gotten another massive rewrite as of recent time, and this one might take the cake considering it's been done by someone more well-versed in horror writing.
The image is popular not really the story. I don't believe the creepypasta would have been as iconic if it weren't for the image.

For what it's worth, in 2014 I looked for the creator of Jeff The Killer for a book cover of a book I published. I thought at the time I found them after 2-3 days of research, and messaged them on newgrounds. I asked if they created the image and they said they did and I could use the image. I still have the screenshots of our conversation somewhere.
if you're talking about the original creepypasta creator, he was basically lying. first he said that he created it himself with a mask then he lied about there being a "third image". he just found it on the internet, and he does not know where it came from.

There’s quite a good amount of TH-cam videos of people playing the game, I contacted as many TH-camrs as I could in hopes they’d respond and send me the file so I could download it myself. To my surprise they’ve actually responded but unfortunately they said they uninstalled the game.

You know another piece of lost media - the ORIGINAL Linkin Park/Jay Z 99 Problems Mashup.
It's crazy, because it was SO popular back in the day, to the point where it influenced the actual artists to team up & release a full collab album & official version of that song.
But the original that spread across the internet? Can't find it anywhere.

I find it unlikely as it was MTV who had hired Jay-Z and he was asked to select a collaborator for their new TV series Collision Course. Jay - Z had chosen the extremely popular band Linkin Park at the time with whom he was a big fan of. When it turned out so extraordinarily well they scrapped the series because they knew they couldn’t top the JZLP collab. Linkin Park had always been known for an early adoption to using Online as a pathway to gaining a fan base (starting even in the late 90s with their Hybrid Soldier fan subscriptions that had quickly changed to Linkin Park Underground) it’s possible they had known something but they were not the ones who had the idea of this project. Jay - Z up to this point had probably very little use of the Internet and had “people for that”. One of the possibilities we have to take into account is that the JTK image might just be the original image. Somebody could have taken a picture of a friend or themselves and then heavily photoshopped it before posting it to 4chan. The raw unedited photo itself may not exist at all in any public space.

Thanks to you I've taken an interest in learning more about lost media. Honestly, it didn't dawn on me even when my favorite MMO shutdown. We had so many people involved (myself included) in data mining for the last 30 days of the live servers, we have been able to build emulated servers that feel perfect from the gameplay aspect. We are still adding in the 18 years worth of content but each day we get closer and closer. It was your videos that really opened my eyes to just how close I was to losing that game forever outside of videos on YT. Wish I was one of those internet detectives and could help out but sadly, I'm not.
