Blur were indeed very tongue in cheek, there are a lot of other very good Blur songs. I always liked both bands, but found myself leaning a tad more towards Blur's versatility with time.
After great escape, they were less tongue in cheek and more experimental, especially their album '13'

Phil Daniels. Jimmy in Quadrophenia. Loads of other films in the 80's/90's. Then did a dark sitcom on BBC 2 called Sunnyside Farm which he played a Rick Mayalish type Ritchie Rich character from Bottom. And ended up on bloody EastEnders.....oh how the mighty have fallen and degraded themselves.
It's ok to like both. I always looked at it like, Oasis have got balls. Their music's gutsy. Blur have got brains. Their music's clever. But here's one for you. Radiohead vs Muse?
Radiohead, they just went the extra mile with their albums and creativity more than Muse.
