Great work, as usual, ENI. Keep up the good work. Looking forward for the latest sitrep on the Fujian maritime flight trials for the J15s, J35s and the KL200 from her deck. Later still the expected launch of the Type 004 in the coming year or so? Cheers.
The Americans did not classify the Type 055 as cruiser based only on displacement or weapon loads. Instead of being just an escort for carriers, they believe the Type 055 has flag facilities for senior Chinese flag officer and his staff to command the fleet from, like their own Ticonderoga-class cruiser. The Zumwalts have heavy displacement but are not configured for that.
It's true that calling the Zumwalt a destroyer was pretty ridiculous. The only thing that can be said is that its primary intended purpose was shore bombardment rather than sea control, making it arguably a green-water navy ship (although green water is usually used in a defensive rather than offensive context). Whereas cruisers are meant to be fast, long-range ships capable of engaging in sea control battles in the far, open ocean.
Chinese netizens often say, "Produce warships like making dumplings." China needs to build faster and improve faster to face the potential Third World War. Only by being prepared for war can we avoid war. Everyone is looking forward to the improved version of the Type 055 destroyer, the Type 076 light aircraft carrier, the Type 004 carrier, and subsequent nuclear-powered aircraft carriers.

China already has the most advanced missiles on the planet and China's warships are largely defensive in nature and don't venture far from China. Therefore, the US would never send one or two carrier groups to face off against China's entire naval fleet plus the full might of the entire country.
On paper yes. We also believed the russian army were top tier until they decided to test it themselves. Until now ,all we know is what it on paper can do, and all we know about it´s real capabilities is that it can sail without sinking. But it is a beautiful ship.
@@emacstac @clausjensen5658 If you want to prove that your statement may be correct, it's very simple. Please give an incident where a Chinese Type 055 destroyer appeared near a US aircraft carrier battle group, but the US aircraft carrier did not take the initiative to escape. (There are many opposite examples, and I still recommend you to learn more) In addition, you can check on the official website of the US military to see how many aircraft carriers the US deployed in the Western Pacific in the past and whether they still have them now. If other people are interested in the above information, they can also do a verification. Don’t equate the power of your speech with the value of the content of your speech, arbitrarily comment on things that you lack understanding of, and be unwilling to accept relevant information feedback resulting from this... @@clausjensen5658 You’re right to be cautious; what’s on paper doesn’t always play out in reality. We’ve seen with Russia that just having advanced tech doesn’t guarantee a win. China’s naval warfare capabilities are different; they’ve been making huge strides, especially with missile systems and electronic warfare. The Type 055 isn’t just sleek; it’s got the capabilities to back it up. And this goes for any major military power, whether we’re talking about China, Russia, or the U.S. These nations aren’t pushovers, and unlike in conflicts like Iraq or Afghanistan, these countries can fire back just as hard. It’s a different ballgame when the opponents have comparable military strength. China’s edge, though, comes with their sheer production speed and cost-efficiency. They’ve got a population of over 1.4 billion compared to the U.S.’s 330 million, which gives them a massive pool of potential recruits if it came to that. Their ability to crank out military hardware at a rapid pace is something that definitely shouldn’t be ignored, even if the Type 055 hasn’t seen real combat yet. At the end of the day, it’s smart to be skeptical, but we also can’t overlook the potential of these ships.
Displacement is just one of the things that get factored into something being designated a frigate/destroyer/cruiser etc. Other considerations include politics and fleet role. For example, many surface combatants in Europe are designated as frigates despite being larger than many destroyers, simply because 'frigate' is considered to be a less hostile-sounding term.
The RCN has to be different.....their new soon to be built (fingers crossed) River Class Destroyers are based on the BEA Systems Type-26 Frigatea aka City Class.....

As the Ukraine and Israeli conflicts have shown, drones and missiles are becoming weapons of choice for both land and sea engagements. China is high on the list of drone developers and it would be interesting to see how the 055 and future ships of the PLAN accomodates and uses them. For example, it appears the Chinese have built a drone carrier and drone submarines, they also say they can detect submarines using lasers and ultra high definition radars. Their development of small thorium molten salt reactors could also find its way into carriers, submarines, and maybe destroyers. The Chinese are very capable of adapting quickly and their innnovations continues to amaze.

The size of the vertical launch system on the Ticonderoga class cruisers is 635mm, and the size of the vertical launch system on the 055 class destroyers is 850mm. This is the biggest gap. This is also the reason why the 055 level is known as the strongest in the world.

2:10 it does make sense to call the type 055 a cruiser and the zumwalt a destroyer because though displacement is one part of it its not the only part. Cruisers are large warships that are built with flag facilities for an admiral to be able to command a task force or battle group from. The type 055 was designed with this mission in mind and the facilities just like the ticonderoga class. The zumwalt were not designed for this role they were designed for shore bombardment.
I swear this is a reupload because I think you already did a video on this topic before. With that being said, something of note is that the UVLS on chinese Type055s and 052Ds are significantly larger than the Mk41s on US warships. If china had instead made them roughly the same size, a Type 052D would be roughly equal to a burke with 90VLS and the Type055 would have a monstrous 160VLS

Best destroyer in the world. Much better than old and antique arleighbough or whatever. Remember guys, this destroyer caused US navy commander, William Coulter to be sacked and their media are too embarrassed to report about it 😂😂😂
Many things are in a way "theoretical". And some things as assumption due to information being classified. It's really hard to gauge the true performance/potential of this ship especially compared to western alternative from tried and tested/matured platforms, as well real world know-hows(naval tactics & doctrines). It's giving resemblance with the Mig 31, it struck fear to the West, only to be found out and it fell short from expectation(with it's capability), expectation vs. reality kind of thing.
@@justinvfernando Tested/matured platforms is a vague concept, more like an excuse to cover up the slow technology iteration. Humanity has not had a large-scale naval battle since World War II, so intercepting some of the Houthis' crudely made ballistic missiles can become "the most intense naval battle of the US Navy since World War II." Before the war breaks out, no one knows what kind of design is mature.
It's certainly a good-looking ship and powerful in many ways, but when I see ships like these, i can't help thinking they've got all their eggs in one basket. All those weapons and men would be better split into two separate ships. This ship can not be in two places at once, and being so powerful, it will attract the attention of every missile and torpedo in the adversaries arsenal. Much was made of the powerful radars, but remember, radars are like tracers. They work in both directions and often give away more information than they receive.
20:57 "Anti-submarine warfare is another strong suite.." That's an English-language vocabulary error. The correct term is "strong suit", not "strong suite." "Strong suit" is an expression from games that use standard decks of playing cards, with each card having a type or "suit" (pronounced like "sute" or "soote") of ♠,♥,♦, or♣. Depending on the game and circumstances, a given suit might be the "strong suit" - one which is more valuable or effective. The term is used outside of card games to mean a specialty or proficiency. "Suite" refers to a room, or set of rooms or set of software programs; there is no such expression as "strong suite".
Is China already planning a replacement for the type 055 or at least an enhancement? They seem to always be updated their ship designs, especially with their frigates.
"Large destroyer" makes no sense when there has been a class already in use for decades: Light Cruiser. Also, displacement is surely NOT the only factor that determines possible category. The firepower and role are even more important factors. Zumwalt has only 80 VLS-cells. That's pathetic number, and thus it's not a flagship capable carrier escort, like the Type 55 LIGHT CRUISER is.

As an 80s kid who loved Tom Clancy novels, China's ascendancy is like deja vu watching their new carriers, destroyers, fighters and bombers evolve. However, China has *never* been tested in combat in the modern era, and their WW2 experience was, let's be honest, disastrous. China looks good on paper, but a "paper superpower" they will always be until they actually get tested.
The US Navy has not fought a major naval battle since WWII and back then, the planes all had propellers. Also modern confrontations involve mostly missiles and drones. Neither country has actual experience on any true scale.
It seems your knowledge of China's history is less than limited. Not going to bother as it is quite long. But it is strikingly a mistake to underestimate the Chinese. Look up the Korean War and the Vietnam war. Educate yourself.
@@canismajoris3910 I see a lot of coping down to "battlefield experience" in comments these days - without them figuring out that battlefield experience was tossed out the window with the advent of drones and AI. @trevorsutherland5263 needs to read the report on how the type 55 overcame the growler's EW and kept locked onto the US carrier to the point where they retreated once the type 55 took the covers off their missiles. I was surprised by the depth of china's combat systems and ability to bypass the EW suite tossed at them. A little worried that the US is relying on this fabled "combat experience" He probably also needs to read the report on how a Chinese sub shadowed a US carrier battlegroup undetected by the battlegroup until they analyzed the sound back in the US post-deployment. they could have sunk a carrier without the US even knowing it was there. That I think alarmed me the most, since china was supposed to be no where near that competent in submarine warfare.

The American battle experience of loss after loss, including Americans recently trying to turn the tide within the territory of Ukraine, is not a proud one. She's a bit heavy for a light cruiser, the Town Class Light Cruiser the HMS Belfast came in at just under 11,000 Tons. and a USN heavy cruiser of the same period came in at around 14,000 to 15,000 long tons.
I still expect special low cost mass produced subs designed to usually remain attached to surface fishing boats or destroyers under the hull. With air and electricity and communication to the surface ship via a physical docking hatch hidden under the ship hull. This is to have the advantage of submersibles (hidden, safe from air attack) yet have long range, long endurance deployment by electricity/ provisions from the surface ship. In 10 years everything on the surface is gonna have trouble surviving hypersonic attacks, drone swarm attacks and hiding.
Make it comparable to a Guided Missile Crusier CG, like the Ticonderoga class. The Korean Destroyer the Sejong The Great class, seems to have more VLS cells than the 055, but its has only a few ships of the class.
The MK-41 and KVLS-1 are too small and shallow, and coupled with US export restrictions, the Sejong class has a weak anti-ship capability, with only 32 Hyunmoo-3 cruise missiles. The Jeongjo class is equipped with KVLS-2 launch units that are larger than the 055, can be equipped with larger anti-ship missiles (if the Koreans can develop them). But the Jeongjo class even more expensive, South Korean Navy only plans to equip only three ships, followed by the KDDX, which is closer to the 055 size.
Sejong the great has more cells, but the whole system is mix and match, used American system but other missiles, each part of the system don’t communicate very well. Also, the missiles on 055 is the strongest hypersonic antiship ballistic missile YJ21, sejong the great doesn’t stand a chance against 055. It will sink before when detect 055.
All these comments are about how beautiful type 55 destroyer is. It is not how a warship looks, but functionality and ability to withstand a navy battle

Can you comment on discussions by Chinese Internet commentators that in May, 2022, a Type 055 DDG, assisted by other PLAN and PLAAF assets, engaged and won an EW battle against a US carrier task force? I take such claims with many grains of salt, but it doesn't mean something didn't happen. Here's the link to one of such discussions: th-cam.com/video/9wh-xP49OL0/w-d-xo.html
There's a more recent episode in which US and Chinese forces reportedly engaged in electronic warfare battles in the South China Sea, specifically surrounding the Second Thomas Shoal of the Spratly Islands. This was informally reported by US and local sources, although without official acknowledgement from either side. The contest lasted twelve hours reportedly, with the US fleet forced to withdraw after their communication and navigation were disrupted. While I wouldn't put too much weight on individual events, there is a repetition of the US coming out second best in recent confrontations. That said, there were cases where the US reportedly got the upper hand, for example apparently having success against the Type 055 DDG during Pelosi's flight to Taiwan. The general conclusion I'd draw is that US capability in EW in the naval and aerial domain is being increasingly challenged, although there is too much noise to really say who is really ahead.
@@EurasiaNaval - in the 2023 Second Thomas Shoal incident, there were reports of widespread GPS and communication outages in northern Philippines, but Chinese netizens surmise it was done by the US to concentrate resources and bandwidth for the EW battle, or exchange if that's a less threatening word, and not by PLAN/PLAAF units. That sounds reasonable to my layman years.
Now i heard about it's capabilities for the 7th or 8th time, but i still don't understand it, because the language is so vague. For example: when would they start a helicopter if a submarine approaches it? How much time does that take, and would a submarine be close by then? Everytime i see those side bays for inflatable Rigid hull boats, i think to myself: wouldn't an unmanned anti submarine drone fit in there, and be much quicker to launch? One could install the same sonar, that is on the Helicopter on an unmanned underwater Drone. Yes, that would be expensive, but submarines are strategic assets. No excuse to not splurge a little, to get rid of them, or their torpedoes.. I like the hull shape, but wouldn't it be nice if it could intercept icbm's launched from a submarine while they are still in the acceleration phase? I know, that is not it's main purpose. But THAT would be a revolutionary "Strategic capability". Not a tactical one.
I suspect that if they thought there was a possiblity of a submarine lurking around in the area, they would have standing air patrols and given she is expected to be escorting a carrier group, her smallish air wing would not be the only assets in the the air.
Submarines would not aggressively go after destroyers, since the match up is in favor of the destroyer. They want to attack unescorted supply ships or oilers instead. So rather than defending the destroyer, the helicopter is there to patrol large areas far away. Nuclear attack submarines are extremely fast (40 mph), so you want something even faster to be able to cut off its escape routes after it's been detected. An underwater drone is simply too slow. That's not to say underwater drones cannot be used, but rather I believe they'll be used in an ambush role, patrolling an area and making sure no enemy submarines can enter it. As such, there is no reason to carry them aboard a destroyer. They can get there under their own power.
Not relevant to this video, but I think I speak for most of your subscribers when I say that we would love to see your view on the sunken sub allegation.
I assume you are talking about the claims of the new nuclear sub which sunk. There is nothing to talk about, it’s nonsense how can a 20m sub sink in water 5m deep. They have claimed similar things before when a type 093 sunk in the strait, even though Taiwanese authorities reported no such incidents and the sub reappeared a few days later.

Though it is an assumption, based not on classified documents, but solely on circumstantial evidence - I suspect that the emergence of the Chinese Type 055 guided missile destroyer is the result of *a **_vast, strategic_** technology transfer* from the Russian Federation to the People's Republic of China - due to aligning existential geopolitical interests. The circumstantial evidence would be that China had lacked the shipbuilding expertise for _advanced_ , post-Cold War warships even after their accedence to the World Trade Organization in 2001, because the US had already shifted toward a strategy of antagonizing the country that had begun to normalize it's relation and national security policies with the former Soviet republic of Russia - arguably, the Chinese 'Open Door' policy of 1979 depended largely on a lingering ideological, low-intensity 'Sino-Soviet Split' in order to be supported by NATO member states and their economies (receiving a low cost manufacturing base in China in return that would break Western labor unions and social-liberal movements). Apart from this diplomatic context, Russia's navy began to modernize it's doctrine around the same time - leading from a Corbettian cruiser fleet - and after the death of STALIN - Gorshkov's nuclear armed Naval Bastion (including Kiev-class helicopter carriers for anti-submarine warfare and large Kirov-class nuclear powered guided missile cruisers) and attack submarine strategy (e.g. Akula-class) to a focus on much smaller surface vessels like the Blue Water capable Admiral Gorshkov-class frigates (approved in 2003) and even Green Water sized Buyan-class corvettes, all armed with a potent 3S-14/UKSK Vertical Launch System that is designed to fire not only very long range supersonic Kalibr cruise missiles (described in Western literature with a range between 1500-2500 km) and heavy, ramjet driven, sea-skimming Oniks anti-ship missiles (600 km), but also the scramjet driven, hypersonic guided missiles Zirkon (1000 km) - thus dramatically increasing the number of defense saturating missiles in a fleet's volley without requiring the personnel, necessary for larger vessels. EDIT: regarding empty NAFO agitation in replies, Western national security discourse characterized Russian Green Water guided missile surface vessel procurement as 'game changing' - especially when contrasted with the innovative, but failed US Littoral Combat Ship procurement: ('Russian Naval Strategy, Capabilities, Prospects') th-cam.com/users/livemBf2nMVeWps?si=-DTlmRWJZCvUqNqe It is not that the Chinese wouldn't have been able to develop ship designs and advanced equipment like RADARs of their own, in time - as they subsequently did (improving on Russian RADAR and eventually on gas-turbines, Russia had to import substitute after the US coup in Kiev) - but a transfer of an already built and sea-trialed platform would save at least a decade of doctrinal development as it did with the Soviet Kiev-class 'aircraft carrying guided missile cruisers' - and _arguably_ the blueprints for the never completed Ulyanovsk-class super-carrier as a functional outline for the Type 003 Fujian-class carrier. The real take-away is not to marvel at any particular Chinese equipment, but to realize that it came about by a political alignment that is strong enough to break US maritime and political supremacy before mid-century.

Type 055 is a Ticonderoga killer.
@@LordEmperorHyperion That remains to be seen. And hopefully for all, that possiblity will never be tested.

Beautiful ship with pure, simple lines.
The ZUMWALT is clearly a light cruiser (CLG)

China already has the most advanced missiles on the planet and China's warships are largely defensive in nature and don't venture far from China. Therefore, the US would never send one or two carrier groups to face off against China's entire naval fleet plus the full might of the entire country.

On paper yes. We also believed the russian army were top tier until they decided to test it themselves. Until now ,all we know is what it on paper can do, and all we know about it´s real capabilities is that it can sail without sinking. But it is a beautiful ship.
On paper, yes - but as typical with Russian and Chinese weapons, they always over estimate their own hardware.
@@emacstac @clausjensen5658 If you want to prove that your statement may be correct, it's very simple. Please give an incident where a Chinese Type 055 destroyer appeared near a US aircraft carrier battle group, but the US aircraft carrier did not take the initiative to escape. (There are many opposite examples, and I still recommend you to learn more)
In addition, you can check on the official website of the US military to see how many aircraft carriers the US deployed in the Western Pacific in the past and whether they still have them now.

And yet none of these have been tested in combat.
@@justinvfernando Tested/matured platforms is a vague concept, more like an excuse to cover up the slow technology iteration.

@@RePete02 that's just it. even combat experience from 20 years ago is now horribly outdated.
It seems your knowledge of China's history is less than limited. Not going to bother as it is quite long. But it is strikingly a mistake to underestimate the Chinese. Look up the Korean War and the Vietnam war. Educate yourself.

I was surprised by the depth of china's combat systems and ability to bypass the EW suite tossed at them. A little worried that the US is relying on this fabled "combat experience"
He probably also needs to read the report on how a Chinese sub shadowed a US carrier battlegroup undetected by the battlegroup until they analyzed the sound back in the US post-deployment. they could have sunk a carrier without the US even knowing it was there. That I think alarmed me the most, since china was supposed to be no where near that competent in submarine warfare.

This is to have the advantage of submersibles (hidden, safe from air attack) yet have long range, long endurance deployment by electricity/ provisions from the surface ship.

Arleigh Burk 3 is the newest model. Can probably win any other destroyer, but stands no chance against 055
Make it comparable to a Guided Missile Crusier CG, like the Ticonderoga class.
The Korean Destroyer the Sejong The Great class, seems to have more VLS cells than the 055, but its has only a few ships of the class.
Sejong The Great class is weak on radars. and the most critical thing is Sejong The Great is not 100% local built.

They are getting some anti submarine corvettes from Russia and calling them Frigates 😂
Why?

Your warships were kicked out of the gulf with the Houthis hitting your ships. Your taxpayers are paying for extremely technical equipment which is making your companies rich (and politicians) which are basically unusable in war.
Just like china did not copy declassified US hypersonic projects from the 1950's and 60's. Projects Alpha Draco and ASSET.
It's amazing how the chinese glide vehicle looks just like Project ASSET
@esawparkerjr637 hahaha same goes for America!! And here's the thing! 95% of your shit is decades old rusty crap that never worked properly in the first place and your infrastructure being tent city's are filled to the brim with junkies, filth and diseases. Your country is third world, you have and are, still building carriers that dont function and are obsolete anyway! Most of all? Your leadership is the biggest joke of all!! 🤡 What a bunch of clowns!¡!! Hahaha and you"bub?" Why would any of us, me included being Canadian myself, would take you seriously? GO AWAY!!!!!Lmfao
HDTVtest,is that you?😂
I don’t like it because it seems more potent than Both the Burke and Ticonderoga Class. I feel like The USN just needs a 20,000 ton nuclear powered battle cruiser with 288 VLS cells.
It is a cruiser. Not a Destroyer.
Who cares if its a Cruiser or Destroyer...It's one big azz ship. 😂
EDIT: regarding empty NAFO agitation in replies, Western national security discourse characterized Russian Green Water guided missile surface vessel procurement as 'game changing' - especially when contrasted with the innovative, but failed US Littoral Combat Ship procurement:

It is not that the Chinese wouldn't have been able to develop ship designs and advanced equipment like RADARs of their own, in time - as they subsequently did (improving on Russian RADAR and eventually on gas-turbines, Russia had to import substitute after the US coup in Kiev) - but a transfer of an already built and sea-trialed platform would save at least a decade of doctrinal development as it did with the Soviet Kiev-class 'aircraft carrying guided missile cruisers' - and _arguably_ the blueprints for the never completed Ulyanovsk-class super-carrier as a functional outline for the Type 003 Fujian-class carrier.
The real take-away is not to marvel at any particular Chinese equipment, but to realize that it came about by a political alignment that is strong enough to break US maritime and political supremacy before mid-century.
Russia does not have the capability and technology to build modern warships
@@danielmuller5739
You should apply for the International Legion.
I certainly list You as such.
According to you, Russia must have a lot of newly built very powerful warships ...... LMAO
@@famousraperandrapperkriswu656
According to You there is nothing to say on the matter, but begging to be listed as an AZOV terrorist.
Blah blaaaah,
The bottom line is they
Have!!!
So china surpassed Russia in naval capabilities
Cruiser ! Not Destroyer ! 😅
If their navy doesn’t call it a cruiser but a destroyer, could it mean a cruiser is yet to come out? 😂
🇨🇳💪🇨🇳💪🇨🇳💪🇨🇳💪🇨🇳💪
Nationalism is NAZI... Are you a NAZI
Weight does not define a destroyer capabilities does
White people never talk about Daniel Duggan
China #1baby.
055 the most superior ever.8 units can destroy US navy
To dedicate that much deck space to anti frogman weapons tells me the Chinese are scared shitless of the SEALS.
我想变成舰娘侵犯055😊
No, world # 1 IS Korea warship
Isn’t the mast shaped like an American battleship? And a beggar's version of the American battleship. Isn't it?
