    I really didn’t know what a synth could do and have been curious of why people were so obsessed with them. After watching this video, I’m convinced that it takes an extreme amount of dedication and talent to operate one of these things and know exactly what you’re doing to get the sounds that you want. Total 80s movie score and music vibes. Also, that was an incredible video on how to use it. You can tell this guy absolutely loves his job.

    I bought a KORG Mono/Poly back in 1989 and it's still one of my favourite synths: I've even used it to create realistic wind and helicopter soundtracks in post-production. This Behringer replica sounds very authentic.

    I watched a lot of reviews on TH-cam about this synth and I was thinking “I really don’t like it. Definitely.”
    THEN DANIEL FISHER ARRIVED.
    I’m ordering the synth.

    Well, Mr. Fisher, because of your demos I've pre-ordered both the Behringer MonoPoly AND the Behringer 2600. I hope you don't mind if I take a break from watching your videos for a while. Oh, I will be back...
    ...eventually.

    I grew up in Fort Wayne and I first started to learn music there. I've always loved the fact everyone at Sweetwater has a deep passion for music. You can tell that he's really excited to even play this synth. I hope I can work there one day. I won my first solo award at their jazz festival too.

    the cool thing about the MP that I recall from eons ago when I had my hands on it: the arp can use a different OSC for each note in the chord. this can give some nice life to an arp pattern

    Sounds like a real beast. The original Mono/Poly is one of my all-time favorite synths. But it's huge, heavy, and runs hot. It takes up a giant space in my room here. This one is so much more compact, and sounds lovely.

      I bought a KORG Mono'Poly back in 1989 for £95 when all the analog synths were being dumped and sold off cheap in favour of digital. Even back then I knew what I had on my hands and couldn't believe I got it for that price. I still have it and it's not going anywhere!

    • @HOLLASOUNDS
      @HOLLASOUNDS 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@jackspring7709 At the time it was a sad situation for Analog but the fact so many ditched them is why they become valuable now because people dont know what they have till it's gone.

      @jackspring7709 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@HOLLASOUNDS Absolutely right. Since then I've bought the VST version (which is excellent) and even the Behringer Mono/Poly (a very faithful clone) so now the old KORG can take it easy but I'm still keeping it :)

  • @sebjulien3
    @sebjulien3 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I have the one made by KORG. I bought it 100$ CDN 30 years ago when everyone was getting rid of their analog stuff to buy DX7 and the like. That month I also bought a KORG K3 Univox. I think the K3 is even more impressive than the Monopoly if you know how to program a sound, I can even make it sound like a Mellotron, and it is THE fattest synth I ever heard in my life. The K3 was used by Vangelis and Kitaro in the days.

  • @stephencrane561

    @Sweetwater Daniel, first some unbridled sycophancy from across The Pond: your videos are almost always a good blend of instructive, educational and product demo, incorporating a near-perfect blend of features, functionality, creativity and actual playing. Utterly fed up of videos which are all talk and no demo - so, thank you!
    That out of the way, a question:
    I recognise that this YT vid is simply a promo for acquiring the MP from Sweetwater; however, I'm already convinced and actually bought one a year ago! Unfortunately, it suffers from the acknowledged VCA bleed issue - which seems to plague many of the Behringer MonoPoly re-issues and mine has started to behave quite badly in this respect, to the point where I've temporarily fitted a (Behringer) noise gate pedal to resolve the amount of oscillator sounding after I've released a note! Not ideal. 😞
    On that basis, has Sweetwater's service department ever found a fix for this or been informed of the 'recalibration process' by Behringer USA? I understand the trim-pots are not employed for this and that the unit has to be opened up, voiding the warranty.
    I certainly cannot seem to find anything other than descriptions of the problem and things which haven't actually worked to resolve the underlying issue.
    Behringer's approach is simply to suggest the usual RMA service route - which is the typical generic response to logging a ticket by The Big B these days - and is overkill for anybody having sufficient electronics skills, test equipment and a bench of servicing gear.
    This would require me to relinquish a much-used synth for many weeks, if not several months, for a problem not of my making ... and I really don't want to remove it from my live setup.
    I'm interested in hearing whether Sweetwater has an inside track on resolving this commonplace issue before handing my MP over to the service route process of the Behringer behemoth...

    I absolutely LOVE my Behringer MonoPoly - my only caveat being the HORRIBLE keyboard - on mine you have to hit the black keys about 5 times harder to get the same velocity as the white keys. Truly horrible. But the synth!?!?!?! OMG, friggin incredible. I am an analog guy with 15 synths and this thing is nothing less than incredible. No wonder MGMT says its their favorite synth, its so versatile it blows my mind. If you have a good midi controller you are good to go. I wrote like 4 songs last year. With this MonoPoly, I've written 4 in the past month. So inspiring.

    What a great presentation! Wide in scope of sounds and functionality, yet without being mind numbing with single note presses 😀 I knew 4 oscillators bring the weight to the sound, but I have not been shown how complex it can get right into the weird territory (I like weird!). And I like having the modern amenities like USB. Wish Korg rode the analogue wave a bit more and re-issued MonoPoly with extended arp and added a sequencer maybe, rather than gave us a Crystal microKORG. After all this Ima play with MonoPoly Gadget now... 😃

    Great demo! your passion for the synth really comes through- it really does sound great but I do think Behringer miscalculated but not doing a tad more design & cost to give it presets- I know it’s not for everyone but it’s dealbreaker for a lot of potential customers. I really hope this is successful enough for a V2 in future to correct this.

    I had the original (bought as a teen in '81!) and like an idiot sold it in the late '80s. Beautiful synth, but non-programmable and obviously non-MIDI, so pretty tough for live rigs. It came with control surface templates so you could "save" your patches. Even with that it took 3-4 minutes to make a major change.

    • @Matthewsavant
      @Matthewsavant 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Luke no I absolutely know that but the original mono/poly and polysix used the same oscillator and filter so the general sound is the same that’s why I mentioned this. I’d love to have that polysix tone back in my set up especially since I’m highly nostalgic for it but I’m fully aware of the architectural difference between the synths

    I would understand the Behringer hate if the year was 1986, it’s 2021 folks, all synths are made of components made in China, on smt boards. The price they charge is fair and reasonable. Have you guys opened up a Moog lately and looked inside?

      Yep... was astounded by how little there was in my Sub37. Modern tech on classic circuits.

      @Luke - certain modern Moogs aren’t built like the vintage stuff, my Sub Phatty that needed two new pots after 2 years for example. I own lots of gear, vintage Moog and an og Prophet 5, I’ve had to work on all of it, granted its old and I’m fine with that. I have old Behringer gear and newer Behringer gear, non of it has ever failed. Not slagging SC or Moog, just saying that the Behringer rep is very unwarranted in my experience and that’s all I can go off. I even had a first run Rev 1 Prophet 5 that I returned (mistake) because it wouldn’t stay in tune.

      In hindsight, I have to say I picked a pretty good career for getting to play and own a lot of synths.
