From New England. Never been to a funeral where people bring food. After the cemetery, close relatives either go to a restaurant for a small buffet or a church basement for ‘funeral chicken’. Chicken, Butter, bread crumbs & lemon juice.
@@mommaoinnh2674 You don't bring food to the funeral. You send it to the family's home. After leaving the cemetery family, friends ,etc. gather there for kind of a wake, usually.
@mommaoinnh2674 Sounds like the chicken shoulda' been buried. I'm southern--father was deep, deep south who violated his code of southern ethics by marrying a woman from Kansas City (yes, that is an American foreigner even if she was born and raised in the United States). If I hadn't been raised with the idea that funerals include "a spread," I would consider it a morbid tradition based on forced social interaction. I've lived in Arkansas all of my life, and this is absolutely what happened when I was a kid and someone died. One lady brought a cake that was so bad, I was instructed to throw it down the hill behind the house and if she asked how it was to tell her it went so fast, she wouldn't believe it. 🤣
Being from the south, I can 100% confirm this true. Here in the south, food is first and foremost front and center at the funeral. Sorry about your memaw, here's a casserole.
