    Excellent work, brother. Many thanks. If it wasn't clear from all you said I would just like to point out: 1: shoot your footage as close to correctly as possible to begin with. 2: Be selective. You don't need to shoot 'all' of a project in RAW. Just use RAW when you know you might have a high contrast shot, close to windows, etc, where RAW might help you save the day. 3: if you plan on doing really heavy grades. Once more, this was really well put together content. Many thanks.

      Hey Charlie, great u liked the vid. I need to do more deep dive in to technical stuff, I have loads of fun doing the research.

    Good points. I shoot RAW in still photography and love the flexibility in post, but I can't imagine the overhead and storage space having to shoot video in RAW. I guess if you are working on a big budget production with assistants and offloading and editing done by someone else on your team, then CineDNG would be the way to go.

      Yes, I think raw would work on productions with a higher budget, but not necsesary for small productions that have only one editor.

    I shoot RAW on the FP. The flexibility and dynamic range is enough of a reason for me. SlimRaw helps keep the file sizes manageable.

      The FP has much worse dynamic range than most 10 bit log cameras. Quality is good though.

      Are you sure ?

    • @DrWNoLs
      @DrWNoLs ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dark-california Yes, the FP is still a great camera to be clear so I don't want to tear it down. CDNG is very high quality. But because it's 12 bit linear raw, it's limited to 12 stops (Sigma lists DR at 12.5 officially). Whereas 10 bit log cameras or even 12 bit BRAW (which is log raw, not linear raw) are at 13-14+ stops. For ex the Panasonic S5 is at 14 stops, the blackmagic pocket 4k is a small sensor but still 13 stops.

      Yup, it's great on the Pocket 6k, I used it on a shoot back in January and it worked well. Sadly it's not available on the UM4.6k v1

    So adobe can read compresses Cinema DNG files? But Resolve cannot? I been hearing that.

    • @Luiscameraman
      @Luiscameraman  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Don't think that's the case, BlackMagic actually was one of the first camera companies to implement Cinema DNG on their cameras. But now BlackMagic has their own proprietary coded B-Raw. I think Ciname DNG is open source.

    I use raw with BMPCC hd
    it needs more disk space but it's ok with today SSD prices
    same for computer it can play with ease today
    It allows me to gain flexibility with manual lense when shooting alone, cause I can correct in post easly
    6k raw it's another story
    but I guess new compressed raws are ok
    You mean prores make you cant color balance white?
    I dont have such issue as I remember

    • @Luiscameraman
      @Luiscameraman  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Julien, yeah nowadays SSD's are more affordable. but I would say not all projects require Raw video, especially when shooting in larger resolutions like 6k. Raw will give you a lot of freedom in post but it comes with a price tag as you need more storage space per project, and need a more powerful machine to edit, in real-time.
      Regarding the white balance, yea in prores the white balance is fixed in the clip, and any alteration is done to the colour. this is different to the way Raw footage is interpreted and modified, raw footage does not have a fixed white balance or exposure it's all done in metadata. this is why raw footage is heavier in hard drive space requirements because all sensors information is there and not fixed so that the editor has more freedom to modify and correct the footage.
      Imagine you have 2 photos, one is .JPG and the second a .DNG, yea you could bring them both to photoshop and make changes, but the raw image will allow you to make more complex and aggressive modifications to the file in a non-destructive way.
