    You have a gift straight from God and Eclipse was my favorite until I saw Commander. You should profile where these have ended up.
    You are so gifted. Keep up the amazing g work. Abe

      Thank-you so much. These two piece are hard to compare. Each are so unique and I love each for different reasons. Both are really fun to view in real life. Thanks for the kind words

    Il est vraiment magnifique, tu es très fort. Les couleurs sont très belles aussi, mais je trouve quelque part que c'est dommage qu'on ne voit pas la pierre. Respect !

      The Color IS the Stone! That's the natural color of the stone.

    Another beautiful job Andrew . I like how you do a lot of the head first and then have the body follow it out of the stone. I myself do not feel confident enough to try it that way as I think I would end up with a body out of proportion to the head . I carve the entire shape to make sure I have that proportion right. You nail it every time . While you oiled the majority and left the head and tail , do you ever find that the oil leeches into areas you don't want it too? Thx for sharing

      I have found that everybody works differently, I have seen many artists draw out the whole shape first and create beautiful work that way, so I would say both ways and any other way could potentially work, it really just depends on the person. As for the oil finish, Yes the oil always leaches but then I go back in with my hand file once it drys and scratch it off again back to the raw stone.

    Beautiful work! Where do you get soapstone that big?

    • @Andrewgableart
      @Andrewgableart  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Why Thank You. I am in BC Canada and get my soapstone from a company called GianCarlos Stoneworks. They have boulders ranging from 5lb to thousands of pounds. This one started out probably around 300lb I believe.

    okay, this is beautiful and an amazing work of art. However, being just a small hobbyist with small funds, I see all those areas of soapstone getting pulverized and all I can think is: Why don't you save them for smaller projects?? DD:
    Pettiness aside though: I don't see you use any reference, were you sculpting it from the top of your head? Did you have plans, sketches that you drew before getting into carving? And What did you use to color it in the end? It enhances and brings out all the details in my opinion, sometimes color can make a sculpture weird but here everything is balanced out.

      Why Thank You, I keep all my scraps for that day I figure out what to do with them all. I reuse some of the larger bits but some of the tiny bits just go back to the earth, yes, still in search of that perfect use for them. Yes I USE A LOT OF REFERENCES, I have my phone with about 300 Eagle photos that I use throught the process. The Color the is the Natural Color of the soapstone. I simply sand and oil it and the color is the natural color of the stone. Thanks for the Comment.

      @@Andrewgableart 300 photos, ey?.... I attempted to make a fist-sized eagle sitting on a rock and I used 3. At least I know where I went wrong haha!
      Okay, after re-watching I realized you simply left the bits that were supposed to be white as is, not using any oil. Each time I finish up any of my projects I'm thrilled to see what the stone i going to look like. Yes, you can vaguely guess the color, but the true beauty, the marbling or any other texture appearing on the stone is like a surprise!

      I save just about everything i produce from my carving . The Antler and bone dust I give to my wife and she uses it in the garden as bone meal while the smaller pieces I save for small things like toggle clasps on my carved pendants. I do the same with the little bit of soapstone I have tried . The dust i give to my wife who uses it to keep the slugs away ( works great as slugs do not like soapstone at all . I guess everyone's a critic ) . Just a few tips on some uses
